Bakery recommendations?

My son turns one in a few weeks, and I’m looking to order a birthday cake for his party! Ideally, I’d love a two-tier cake featuring his favorite cartoon character. We’re still pretty new to the area, so I’m not familiar with the best local bakeries yet.
I absolutely love Nothing Bundt Cakes, but since they have their own signature style, it doesn’t really fit the traditional round or square two-tier cake we have in mind.
I’d also love to actually go into the bakery and taste-test a few cake flavors before placing the order. If you have any bakery recommendations that do custom birthday cakes and offer tastings, please send them my way! 🎂🤍

Any Meetups for Hobbies/Interests on Weekends?

Yo, I am terrible at finding events. I was checking meetup and eventbrite plus random coffee shop and library websites. Would like to find a group that shares some of my main interests: reading, writing, programming, drawing.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Congressional analysts predict Newport News Shipbuilding doesn’t have room to build Trump’s new battleships

The Congressional Budget Office estimates the lead ship in President Donald Trump’s proposed "Golden Fleet" of battleships will cost $10 billion more than a Ford-class aircraft carrier, with the full 15-ship program projected at $275 billion.

The complex design features undeveloped technologies such as rail guns alongside nuclear power. This leaves Newport News Shipbuilding as the only shipyard equipped to build the surface vessels.

However, using the necessary shipyard space would conflict with existing delays on three scheduled Ford-class aircraft carriers.

What carrier at shipyard?

I was passing through the area and saw a massive aircraft carrier parked next to the NN Shipyard. Anyone know what carrier this is?

Pre Boarding

Mannn I Feel Like Throwing in a towel with the shipyard I had my interview June 12th for experienced stage builder in X36 and did my agility test physical and drug test on the 30th of June. Now it’s August 10th and it still says Pre-Boarding. I haven’t got a call or email, I reached out to my recruiter twice and he said security is looking over my background check and the cordinator will get to me when there done and that was the middle of July. I have a job at NFI Logistics But I’m at my breaking point. I don’t know how to feel and what or when to expect anything. Shit really having me discouraged fr.

Dentist recommendations for Newport News area

I have a cap that’s come off, I went to an office today but they took my money, told me exactly what I already knew, and sent me away with no fix. Unfortunately that’s eaten more of my limited funds for this but I need it managed. Anyone know any dentist in the 23602 area of VA? Relatively cheap for no insurance. And definitely don’t recommend east end physicians because they’re scam artists.

NNPS Substitute Teacher Meeting Question

I just got the email about the welcome back meeting for subs and I’m wondering why it’s 7 hours this year vs the 3 hours last year and whether they’ll be paying us for those hours and what we’ll even be doing for that long. The email gave no information other than where and the time. What do my fellow subs think?

Already reached out to non-emergency number in Newport News and they said "They may call back". So just in case here is the crash that happened this afternoon (6 PM-ish) at Warwick Blvd and J Clyde Morris Blvd. Sorry for bad quality, but I hope this reaches whoever needed it.

If you need the video please reach out and I will send it to you.

If your cell phone is out, you can TEXT 911 if needed

Just got an alert and thought that was worth passing along in case anyone needs to know it.

I knew texting 911 was rolling out in general in places, but had no clue we had support for it here, but apparently we do.
