A strange experience with Ni no Kuni and Spitz

I want to share an experience that left me feeling a little lost.

I have a Nintendo Switch, and for the past few months I had been going through a pretty rough emotional period. Then, about a week ago, I noticed that Ni no Kuni was on sale. I looked up the trailer and sent it to my girlfriend. I told her, “Maybe you’d like this game. From what I read, Studio Ghibli animated it, and it’s on sale on the eShop.”

I wasn't actually sure about that last part. I had known about Ni no Kuni for years because I had been waiting for a fan translation into my language (Spanish), but as time went by, I lost interest and never ended up playing it.

She said, “It looks pretty,” hahaha, and that was basically the end of the conversation.

I went back to listening to random music on YouTube Music. A few hours later, a song came on that I really liked. It was called “Unknown Thread” by a Japanese band called Spitz.

I liked it so much that after listening to it three or four times, the Ni no Kuni trailer suddenly popped into my head. So I played the trailer again, but this time with the Spitz song playing in the background.

And somehow... it fit perfectly.

I sent the trailer to my girlfriend and said, “Look, it fits perfectly hahaha.” She agreed, and a few hours later she told me she had bought the game for me so I could play it.

I was really happy, but also a little guilty because I didn't feel right about her spending money on me. But she told me, “I'll play it too when you let me borrow your Switch,” so I accepted it and started playing.

And within the first hour, I fell in love with it.

I'm 30 years old, and honestly, I felt a little silly because what I experienced while playing it was so strange. It gave me such a beautiful feeling that I think Ni no Kuni has already become my second favorite game of all time.

My first is Shadow of the Colossus, hahaha.

I don't know. The whole coincidence between Spitz and Ni no Kuni was just really strange. Somehow, both the band and the game have become incredibly special to me in a very short amount of time.

I also thanked my girlfriend for giving me something I didn't even know I was going to love this much.

And sorry, but I'm not really someone who writes or comments on Reddit. I speak Spanish, and most of the time I come here just to read and learn from you guys in the English-speaking community.

So if I said or did something wrong, please let me know. I'll delete the post if necessary, or maybe the mods will delete it, I don't know.

I'm sorry, and thank you for reading.

Shadar Vs Doloran (Narratively)

When you think about it Shadar and Doloran are very similar. They are both antagonists who serve a much greater antagonist though primarily serve as the main threat throughout most of the story. They are both connected to the protagonist as soulmates. And share similar abilities in being able to manipulate people. The only difference is that I believe Shadar was portrayed better. I don't know if it just has something to do with how much better the first game story was but Doloran just feels much more bland and plain. I think what really makes Shadar a better antagonist is how much more of a direct threat he is throughout the entire story. Shadar is much more personal as he is technically responsible for killing Oliver's Mom and is the reason as to why Oliver set out on his journey. Shadar is also just more intimidating as everyone throughout the game pretty much fears him. Doloran on the other hand barely does shit that directly drives the protagonist for most of the story. I think in the story Mausinger served as a better antagonist since he is more connected and actually felt more threatening through his hatred and actions which makes me wish we got more of Mausinger. I'm not saying Doloran barely did anything since he is basically responsible for almost everything bad in the game. It's just that Doloran had less depth or presence. It felt like Doloran was less of a character and more like a root cause to everything bad in the game. I get that Doloran was supposed to be more like a puppet master from the shadows but he feels more random than cunning. It also doesn't help that he only shows a little character near the end of the story. I mean you can also say that's Shadars biggest flaw as well but his backstory doesn't tie as much with his motives and mostly displays how Lucien came to hate the world and how he connects to Oliver. It also should be noted that Shadar doesn't really need a motive considering he basically already accomplished it and is at the end of the day a secondary antagonist who follows orders from the White Witch. Having Doloran's backstory at the end of the game doesn't help him since he is clearly motive based and it makes his acts seem entirely random. I think Doloran fell flat mostly because he suffers from a lack of screen time. If Doloran had time to reveal more about himself throughout the story and engage more with the protagonist he could have been much more interesting but unfortunately he barely has 5 minutes of screen time out of 40 hours of story. which makes him feel quite rushed.

Ding Dong Dell - Piano Performance

Friends,

I wanted to share my piano performance of Ding Dong Dell performed for my local community.

I've been living in this music non-stop since I finished the game back in December-ish. Please feel free to enjoy, roast, anything. I'm happy with this performance, despite getting majorly finger-tied during during the early middle.

I'd also love to get a shoutout to u/DayIngham (TheSlowPianist on Youtube) for his magnificent Ni No Kuni arrangements. I hope I did it justice, friend! Though I will admit I made a few edits because (1) The arranger is a far superior pianist than I am and some moments weren't attainable by me for this performance, and (2) I created an ending that felt more conclusive for a performance; the written (and accurately arranged) ending allows for that continuous loop we hear in the game.

Thanks all. Love this music. Love this game.

Ni No Kuni Series Bosses Ranked From Worst To Best

First of all I will not include any of the tainted monsters, or bounty hunts since they are mostly all pretty forgettable. I will also not include any of the rematch's from the WOTWW post game since most of them don't really change other than being a tad bit stronger. This list is purely based on how good the experience, gimmicks, and designs were.

How replayable is this game? I’m just got done with the >!Candle Boss!< and noticed that the game is on sale on the PlayStation shop for $6.99. I’m currently playing in the switch and eventually would like to play the Ps version so I can re experience the game with trophies

Question about levelling up

Good morning everyone, I’m playing Ni No Kuni 1 and I’ve just reached >!Shadar's Castle!<, but I’ve a big problem: I can’t progress any further because the enemies inside the castle are too strong for me, both in terms of attack and defence! So I wanted to try levelling up my characters, but I’ve run into a problem with that too, because I can’t seem to find a way to do it properly and quickly... Do you have any suggestions?

Expert Mode tips? NNK2

I’ve beaten the game on normal mode a couple times now. And started a new save on my switch to try out the expert difficulty. But things same level to 2-5 levels below me are absolutely stomping me even with the tactical tweaker set up for that battle. I remember flying through the game and being over leveled by most areas and I don’t feel I’m getting decent enough equipment. Even though I have it set to 1 xp and 1 better equipment. I’ve gotten to the Nails Forest area and just can’t seem to finish a fight in there without being nearly dead.

Is there a good spot to grind levels and equipment to come back because I know I won’t make it to gold paw this way. Any other tips for expert mode would be appreciated. It’s also been a while since I played so I may be forgetting some things too.

Calling it Quits On My NNK1 Hard Mode Run

The Zodiarchy is genuinely just pure RNG is this run and I don't have the time to get lucky when it takes 2 hours to get back to the boss every time I lose. Up to this point every fight was tough but fair, however this was just plain unfair due to the many kinks in the combat and praying to get lucky.

Your movement gets stopped when nix or piercing gaze happens, but the enemies can just swarm you in the cutscene. I'm forced to hope Cassiopia doesn't just get unluckily stunned when she tries to cast and that when she does cast it's falling star and not nix. Oh, and the enemies can also just teleport after chaos, so you can just randomly die to that too.

The fight is possible under the right conditions, but I have better things to do with my life than hope I get good luck with the AI. It's a shame because the run was very satisfying up to this point, but this fight triggers my anxiety problems because of the length and stress of the battle.

Made a Mr. Drippy plush!

I had to make a lot of the components from scratch but I’m really happy with how it turned out! I know that cursed Drippy doesn’t have the lantern but it was just too cool to not add to the project :)

Familiar doesn’t count?

Just got to >!Hamelin and am about to sneak bast the guards!< and I have to gripe about something. It’s the fact that you need specific forms of Familiars to do certain quests. Like the one researcher that was in Al Mamoon and is now in Hamelin want a Large, Small and Gear shaped Automatus Familiar. I have the first 2 but the third one has to be the first form and I already evolved/metamorphosed it to the next form. Another is the pug lady that want to grow her flower for her moms birthday. It need the growth spell and then a familiar that is shaped like the sun. Got it but had already Metamorphosed it now before I even went to made it to the cove.

Wish they could just look at something else to see. That I already had it

Nin no Kuni Wrath of the White Witch Title Music Loudness

While The rest of the game is fine and I can modify the volume, that title music blasts loud enough to make your ears bleed. This is the Steam version. Is there a separate control for the title volume I'm missing? I don't want the rest of the game even quieter. That part is just right. Thanks in advance.

I picked up the Hard Mode challenge- Day 1

So you guys might have seen posts from u/theshiningstarship about their hard mode challenge, where they threw in the towel at the Zodiarchy. Well, in the comments of that, I said I would take up the challenge. So what I'm gonna do is write up a post of my general thoughts for each day. I'm streaming this all, so if you want to, feel free to tune in. I'll also post the vods of each day so you can watch those if you're curious. Today was day 1 so here goes:

  • GOTW is free as always, easy to strafe and parry. The fight did take a lot longer, and he even survived the tutorial gold glim.
  • The sewers were kinda crazy hard, I died 3 or 4 times just to random enemies. It was a humbling experience to need to leave the sewers after the first lantern set just to save a coffee for later.
  • Hickory Dock is another easy one who is just very tanky. It's easy to strafe and also easy to parry, meaning I get lots of glims. Dock seems to start out the concerning pattern where I can't seem to do more than 2 damage with melee. I'm still sorta tanky, I'm a comfortable 4 shot at this point.
  • Gladiataur was pretty hard. his attacks are very wide, meaning you can't parry him without taking a hit in the first phase, and he hits pretty hard. Just regular melee hits do about 1/3 of my health, so it's not great. If I fail to block, his skills do about 2/3 of my health. The trend of doing like zero melee damage continues, and the seed sprite starts his sweep as my best guy. I saved some bounties to level him up right after I got him, so he does about 20 damage per water bomb here. Once phase 2 starts, the fight is pretty free. his punch attacks are all easily strafed and parried so I stopped needing to constantly heal. Fights in general are dragging quite a bit at this point, but I still haven't died to a boss
  • Rusty's Nightmare was the first boss to kill me, thanks to it's fast spinning attack, where each hit did about a quarter of my health. As long as you're careful though, this boss is easily no hit. Strafing for nice hits to fish for glims is quickly becoming not just a good strategy, but the only strategy, as this boss also takes 1-2 damage from melee. But Sid the seed sprite keeps his MVP status for pure cost efficiency. But it's worth noting that fights are starting to DRAG, this one took over 8 minutes on the successful attempt, faster than gladiataur but much slower than usual.
  • Bashura killed me too, but not for any particular difficulty, I collected a golden glim and in the middle of the cutscene he started devastation. Feels bad man. Things are starting to REALLY hurt. regular attacks range from 1/3 to 1/2 my health, and skills do about 3/4 of my health. It's all about tight exectution now. Fight took around 10 minutes.
  • For my one free tame, and one of the only new familiars I'll be able to get in general, I picked the Lagoon Naiad for 2 reasons. first, it learns the skill rise and shine, which will allow me to complete an errand later on. Second, if I am able to evolve it all the way, it will learn the skill Upsy-Daisy, which will be one of my only sources of revives mid combat, with resources being so scarce. I also saved bounties again until after I unlocked this guy so it would gain more xp
  • Moltann OH MAN. Things really, REALLY get hard here. He killed me 4-5 times before I worked out how to kill him. The main issue is that Moltaan uses special moves and rarely actually attacks. This means you can't parry him for glims. And he has so much health. The only strategy I found that worked is to intentionally move in to get hit by moves and evade them to farm glims instead. This took a LONG TIME. this fight took 28 minutes on a successful attempt. Keep in mind, none of these include fail times. that's 28 minutes on just the winning try. Towards the end, I used 1 strong coffee, marking my first in battle item used this run. Sid keeps MVP status.
  • And that's as far as I got today, I decided Moltaan was a good stopping point. Some things I want to mention. The post about the hard mode mod states the game is 1.5x as hard. This is not true. The game is 2.25x as hard compared to normal mode. Compared to easy mode, the gamemode I personally speed run, it's nearly 4x as hard. the amount of damage I take is nearly doubled, and all enemies have around 2x as much health or more.
  • Not having starting familiar tickets is going to make this game really really hard. Mainly, I have almost no familiars. Until I beat candelabracadabra, I'll have 3 empty familiar slots. After, I'll still have an empty one. I won't fill all the slots until just before the end.
  • Melee is really, really bad. Stuff simply does too much damage to justify the cost and risk aside from the parry hit. I don't know whether that will change eventually, but that's where we are now.
  • I might be making this harder on myself by conserving items this much. But I feel confident it will be worth it to save as many items as possible for the later bosses.

That's all the specific thoughts I had about day 1, but if you want to actually watch me suffer, you can here.

Also wanted to say thanks to u/theshiningstarship for the challenge idea! and thanks to u/UchiR for making the hard mode mod. It do be hard. That's all for today!

New member and stat help

Hello everyone new member and player of the Ni no Kuni series here.

Bought this game for really cheap a year or two ago on the Switch EShop and never really played it till about 2 weeks ago. Having a blast with the story, Lore and game play.

Now I have a question on stats. I’ve got several Familiars that just aren’t doing it damage wise. Mitey(first Familiar) is still my go to but some are just hard to use as they are doing so little damage. Like when ever I switch to Esther and use the one familiar that looks like an Angler Fish not doing a lot of damage despite being over 80 on stats.

Story wise I just got >!through the scripted fight with Shadar on the Sea Cow and am now on the island we stranded on!<
