My bestman gave me & wife this when we got married.

I’m a huge Nick Cave fan (and my wife likes him too) so it was quite a surprise when my bestman gave us a letter from Nick Cave himself during the wedding reception. Happiest day of my life.

Does this signature on Bunny Munro look legit?

Picked this up at a book fair and wanted to determine if my luck was true. Thanks in advance.

Bad Seed TeeVee submission hunt

I've just listened to The Weeping Song today and it reminded me of one 'cover' I saw on BSTV back during covid.

It was was a fan video of The Weeping Song with the original audio but with Nick and Blixa replaced by small plushy dogs and the backdrops replaced by home-made decorations. I thought it was funny. I would like to see it one more time and show it to my gf.

Does anybody have any leads? (or at least remember the said video, the validation would be good after all those years as I'm beginning to question my memory)

Discography Rabbit Hole Nicke Cave: The Birthday Party-Prayers On Fire (1981)

Synopsis:

Released in April 1981, Prayers on Fire is the debut major-label studio album by The Birthday Party . Recorded in London and Melbourne, the record stands as a landmark release of gothic rock, post-punk, and noise rock. Unlike the two previous releases you get to hear shades of the gothic rock  of what Nick Cave would create in decades to come.

The Review:

The album opens with “Zoo Music Girl” . It feels very chaotic and frantic like the band is all wired up in a demonic ska ritual. “Cry” maintains that chaotic energy but there is some melodic structure to the song. “Capers” just feels creepy as hell. It is a bone chilling experience. Cave’s vocals just sound evil. “Nick The Stripper” keeps up the menacing tone but this track has a nice melodic rhythm to it. “Ho Ho” slows down the rhythms  into this sludgy goth rock groove. It feels very menacing and deliberate. “Figures Of Fun” explodes in with a violent heavy groove. Yet there's a bluesy vibe underneath the chaos. “King Inc” has this heavy dense bassline that feels so menacing. The guitar riffs have a  distorted  tone. The chaos digs deeper as the song moves forward like someone is stalking you through the darkness. “Dead Song” has this rhythmic post-punk groove. Yet it still feels very frantic. Cave's vocal delivery is all over the place to keep pace with this music. “Yard” feels like you're wading through the night in this nightmarish slowmotion claustrophobic groove. It has this gothic sludge vibe that keeps building frantic energy as it moves along. “Dull Day” has a peak of brightness in its new-wave punky groove. Cave’s baritone vocal delivery adds a menacing tone to the track. The album closes with “Just You And Me” has a menacing dark jazz vibe. Once again Cave is using his vocals as a weapon of haunted wickedness.

Final Thoughts:

This album is a post-punk/goth rock masterpiece. It is also the first time we hear Nick Cave find his voice. The gothic themes would be something he will explore throughout his career. The album does stand as an achievement of the post/punk explosion of the late 70’s. A band that is finally finding its voice. It is definitely worth a listen and a place on the Nick Cave rabbit hole.

Biggest thank you to this wonderful community for helping fund my cat’s scan

Earlier this week I posted about selling the Jubilee Street record to help fund a scan for my wonderful ex-stray cat Gavroche, to investigate a suspicious lump on his abdomen. I was met with a response I never expected: instead of someone wanting to buy the record, I got a flood of donations to the GoFundMe, and it was enough to pay for his scan. I am absolutely humbled and full of gratitude to this community. I never thought it was possible, and you all took so much worry off my shoulders. I can clearly see the connection between Nick Cave fans and cat lovers!

Gavroche had his scan yesterday, and it was an emotional rollercoaster of a day. Worth noting, when I found him in my garden on the 1st of April, he had multiple infections, a pelvic fracture, terrible dental health, and cat flu. He’s been improving and gaining weight ever since, and most of his issues have been resolved or are steadily improving. The lump was discovered during dental surgery nearly two weeks ago. He had to be sedated for the scan and have his tummy shaved.

I got a call from the vet in the afternoon. The golf ball sized lump in his abdomen is actually an enlarged kidney. He also has a swollen lymph node and enlarged gallbladder. The possible diagnoses included chronic kidney disease, kidney injury, or cancer, and the prognosis she gave sounded like it could be life span altering. She’d never seen him before and didn’t know his baseline or how much he’d already improved, which probably shaped that initial read. She said his bloods and urine analysis were still pending, and once back, she’d be able to give a more accurate picture.

I took him home absolutely heartbroken, trying to comfort myself with the thought that whatever happens, he’s surrounded by love. Then we got a second call that evening. His bloods are fine apart from a couple of infection markers that are actually improving since his dental surgery. His urine is completely normal, no kidney disease detected. Cancer is still possible but unlikely, especially since he keeps gaining weight. The current thinking is it could be something he was born with and isn’t causing issues, or the aftermath of an old kidney injury (now resolved) making the other kidney work harder and enlarge, or simply the toll of a rough life, starvation, and repeated infections.

For now, I’ve just been advised to watch his weight and recheck his kidneys in a few months. No treatment needed, he’s just one medical mystery who isn’t ready to give up!

Thank you so, so much again. If you’d like to follow more of his journey, he’s got his own place here on Reddit: r/GavrocheTheCat, where I post updates almost daily. The record is still with us, we’re planning to listen to it together once my record player is fixed. Have a lovely day, and thank you all! 🖤

Love,
Giedrė and Gavroche

Thinking of/trying to find the best way to auction the Limited Edition “Jubilee Street” record to fund my rescue cat’s treatment

MODS PLEASE DELETE IF NOT ALLOWED.

Hello Nick Cave fans,
Basically what the title says. I’ve come across some financial difficulties and I’m thinking of ways to raise some money to fund my cat’s treatment. He’s having a scan this Thursday which could cost anywhere from £100 to £500, depending on whether he needs to be sedated for it (I’ll find out on the day), and there could be some treatment needed afterwards depending on what they find.

So I want to try and raise some money to be a bit less worried about it. I attended the Brighton gig and bought one Jubilee Street record. I purchased it intending to keep it for myself, and it’s very precious to me, but my cat means more. I’m not a reseller and this is the only record I own. It’s still unopened. That said, I don’t want to just put it on eBay and sell it for £100, I’d rather find someone willing to pay a bit more knowing it’s going towards his vet care so I thought I’d put this offer out here in case there are any fans who’d like a record but also love cats. I live in the UK and my identity is public on Reddit, and I can also personally prove I’m not a scammer via video call, showing ID etc. I could also personally deliver the record if it’s somewhere around West Yorkshire.

Now about the cat, I know people could ask why I don’t have insurance, or how I’m going to afford his future treatment. Insurance isn’t really an option for him since he had so many health issues when I found him, most insurers won’t cover pre-existing conditions, and pretty much everything wrong with him counts as one. I didn’t buy or intentionally adopt him. I found Gavroche lethargic in my garden on the 1st of April. I don’t know where he came from, I immediately thought he was someone’s lost cat. I took him to the vet, who scanned him for a microchip and found nothing. He also wasn’t neutered. He had cat flu and was struggling to breathe, his teeth were broken and several were missing, his eyes, nose and ears were weeping with pus, and his stomach was hard and round from malnutrition. His pelvis was also broken and had healed wonky, same as one of his front paws. The vet said he was at death’s door.

Since then he’s had a course of antibiotics, his flu is gone, he’s had all the testing for cat infections, his eyes have healed with eye drops, and his ears are still in the process of getting better. He’s been neutered, had his teeth fixed, had his vaccinations, and been microchipped. He’s doing so much better now, a happy, extremely cuddly and snuggly boy. His fur has grown back beautifully and he’s a proper shiny house panther these days. He has also gained almost 1kg in weight. It’s been a long road, and pretty much everything so far has been funded by donations from the amazing cat community, who I could not thank enough. But now we’ve got another worry, which hopefully is nothing too serious. He has a lump on his belly which feels like it could be a hernia from his old pelvic fracture, but it could be something more serious and life threatening, so he needs to have it scanned.

He’s not in any discomfort, he lets me touch it, and the lump is soft and hasn’t grown since I got him, his blood panel also doesn’t show any signs of organ failure so we are trying to stay positive. The vet thinks they might be able to do the scan without sedating him since he’s such a good boy, but if that doesn’t work the price jumps five times, and at the moment I don’t have that kind of money, hence trying to raise it by auctioning the record. Please let me know if anyone would be interested in purchasing it.

I understand they usually go for around £100-150 online, but I’m hoping for a bit more since I’m not doing this as a business but to help this sweet boy.

Thank you for reading and Best Wishes,
Giedre and Gavroche 🖤
