Partition suddenly became read-only, then after a restart became unmountable

My distro's root is a btrfs partition, i started getting pop-ups that programs cannot write to places, I tried restarting my computer before doing anything to see if it would fix it, but instead I've started to get the following message, when trying to diagnose the problem from a bootable usb

"An error occurred while accessing 'root', the system responded: The srequested operation has failed: Error mounting /dev/nvme1n1p3 at /run/media/ruthsmith/8ac8d716-5a1f-4674-b53c-ac04fa5cd1c5: can't read superblock on /dev/nvme1n1p3"

running btrfs check --readonly /dev/nvme1n1p3
returned https://pastebin.com/Bzyc9Tju

any ideas of how to fix this or at least be able to access files from it?

Thanks in advance

How to install and run Genshin Impact on Nobara 44

Hi All,

As the title says, I want to get back into Genshin Impact but I’m not entirely sure how to do it. So far what I did was:

Install Genshin Impact on a Windows PC and copy the game files to my external hard drive and from there copy it to my Games drive which is partitioned in BTRFS format.

I installed Hoyoplay via Lutris and added the drive location and Hoyoplay linked the game and it says “Start Game”. But when I press the button, the launcher restarts after about 10 seconds which makes me think the game is crashing.

Am I doing anything wrong? Any help and advice is appreciated.

Thank you.

Update: I changed the Runner to Proton 9.0 and got the game to launch and played a bit as well. Super happy that I figured it out even though it might have been a trivial thing to do. You learn something new everyday. Also, copying the game files saved me from a 130GB download so that’s the icing on the cake :D

Okay i give up. How do I uninstall programs installed through Flatpost?

I've changed video editors and I've tried every combination of sudo dnf, rpm, and other commands to attempt to uninstall shotcut. I originally installed it through Flatpost but I'm not seeing any option available to just uninstall the program. Do I just delete the Shotcut folder at this point? No matter what I enter as a command the Konsole returns that the software isn't installed, which is obviously not true.

How do I fix this?

My ethernet constantly disconnects, leading to an unstable connection and lag in games. I don't want to just use Wifi because than I'd still have lag in games. Has anyone else had this problem?

I am new to linux, so I don't know which settings specifically to change.

Firefox locking up and crashes on some sites

Since the last big update, about a week ago my firefox has been locking up and crashing. The two sites that I've noticed it happens every time is Amazon and IMDB.

Things I've tried to fix it:

  • Uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox
  • Created a new profile
  • Removed all add-ons/extensions
  • Cleared cache/cookies
  • Tried in private mode, same issue
  • Brave browser can load these sites without issue

Firefox crash report

Any ideas or suggestions?

So the updater keeps restarting and doing nothing. Here's the log file. It gets to:

Help with Recording

Hey So I need some help. I have been facing stuttering and lag in my videos via obs. I am using replay buffer and I've been having a tough time trying to fix it. My Build is a Ryzen 5 5500, Gigabyte RTX 3060 8 gig, 32 GB of ddr4 ram. I am new to nobara Linux so I need some help at least getting it to stop stuttering. The game I'm trying to get clips from is helldivers 2.

Second time boot up after updates shows terminal I can't get past.

To start, I suck at this stuff so please be nice.

All I did prior to getting to the first screen was turning on my laptop. It doesn't matter which version of nabara I select, it always shows this. Thought I had to lead on what I was doing when pressing Ctrl + Alt + F3 but then I can't enter a password.

(Yes I posted this earlier. It just didn't load the video so I had to redo it)

I've used Nobara for 2 weeks, but I found an issue with mic audio

Issue fixed, it's just a stupid Realtek quirk I think cuz after setting the profile to Pro Audio in pavucontrol, it's fixed now.

As the title said...
Well, I don't know why my mic just sounds like an earrape. When I try to record or doing VC on Discord, it ends up becoming an earrape.

I have no idea why, even with internal and external mic.

My device:
Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54
RAM: 16GB (2x 8GB)
CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-9300H

Can't type capital letters on login screen over Moonlight Steam Deck Client

Hi everyone. This is the first time in the 5 months I've been on Nobara (KDE) that I haven't been able to figure out a problem on my own. I have been trying to get a WoL Sunshine/Moonlight streaming setup for my desktop to my Steam Deck to work the way I had it working on Windows for a long time. The WoL I have had some success with, but once I do that, I am unable to get past the login screen due to the Steam Deck's on-screen keyboard only sending lower-case letters to the password box. I have tried pressing shift on the touchscreen, by holding L2, and by pressing A on it. I have also tried using caps lock and it doesn't make a difference. This issue goes away once I'm logged in and I can type capital letters normally using the SD's keyboard.

I have also though maybe the KDE virtual keyboard would help, but the button at the bottom left of the login screen does nothing unless I go and configure the virtual keyboard to show up with all input types, but then it shows up automatically every time I go to log in and I would prefer to not have to do click the button to hide it every time I go to type in any text field.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I'm expecting too much wanting to match the behavior I had with Windows, but overall switching to Linux has been worth every workaround I've had to work out, and I was hoping I'd be able to find a workaround for this too.

Edit: I could theoretically change my password to be all lowercase, but I just would like to not compromise security if I don't have to.

Distro Fighter: WARS - BETA Key for Aug 2026

I've been building a retro arcade fighting game where Linux distros are the fighters, and part 3 just started its beta: DISTRO FIGHTER: WARS, a ranked, massively multiplayer manager mode:

https://distrofighter.com/wars?beta=beta-aug-2026 - Access key.

You claim a distro. Yes, Nobara is on the roster. Take a manager's license, and run its career. Train the stat bars, hire sparring partners, build your loadout from real packages and fight real managers from around the world. Every Monday the ranks are judged and the top ranked players in each division move up. Seasons end with a migration of penguins (quarterly) where you can switch distros, weight classes or bring one back from your stable.

It's free, it runs in the browser, and everything is old-school pixels, right down to the soundtracks.

I'd genuinely like feedback from people who game on Linux daily: what feels right, what feels unfair, and what a gaming distro's stats should look like. Nobara's fight record will be in your hands.

only 2 kernels in grub after failed update

Hello, after updating to nobara 44 i had the black screen issue like many others, but i could fix them. You know when you boot your pc, it shows the grub menu with 3 different kernel versions you can choose from, after updating i only had 2 options. I thought maybe this is normal, if i get a kernel update next time, this will be 3 again. But no, even 2 kernel updates in and its still only a list of 2. How do i fix this?

Is nobara worth it for beginners?

Hi I've tried like 4 linux distros and I've been wanting to switch fully my only issue atp is bo3 which annoys me to no end. I've tried Pop os and cachy os and linux mint, linux mint is surprisingly the only one I used that just works catchy just had rolling updates that broke it more than fixed it and it bugged me a lot so I went back to windows 11 temporarily until I could do the research to get it right and I'm just wondering if switching to nobara would be the move if not I understand but I'm generally wondering atp

Enormous size of Steam directory (for Borg backup)

As a fresh user of Nobara and being new to Linux gaming, I've been experimenting with Borg backup (thru Vorta GUI).

Been looking at the enormous size of the ~/.local/share/Steam/ directory (even after disregarding the specific game folders themselves). Considering most of it to be recoverable by simply [re]installing Steam, but unaware of which specific files / folders might be storing user configs, I'd like to know what exclusions, if any, ppl make when backing up their home directory.

Cheers & thx

1 month on Linux (Cachy, Fedora, Bazzite, Nobara + KDE/Gnome)

After having extra clicks to get to my right-click menu, extra clicks to save locally and not Onedrive, after reading that more IA and data collection are coming by default, and after seeing several tech channels that I follow test Linux, I finally jumped!

TL,DR: I like it, I'm staying! There's a lot to learn for sure, but it's a stimulating challenge. So this post is for curious noobs like me: don't overthink it, give it a try!

That's been roughly a month. My steps:

  • (Linux Mint / Years ago, on a laptop I was selling, because I wanted to keep the Windows key / It felt easy enough, though visually rigid and dated)
  • CachyOS KDE / 1 week / A big reason why I didn't jump before was gaming. Now that it's a lot better, "out of the box" distros exist, I tried it. Despite being Arch-based, the early steps were very intuitive, I learned to `sudo pacman -Syu`. I struggled with mount (I still don't get why it's not more user-friendly and unified between fstab, Dolphin, etc.), with the lack of printer support by default, with weird things like my dual boot on Windows having a different clock time now, etc. I enjoyed it still, I may go back to it, but there was maybe a bit too much tinkering for a start and with early curiosity + FOMO, I wanted to test other distros.
  • Fedora KDE / 1 day / Going to a less bleeding-edge distro felt like a good next step, but with gaming in mind, vanilla Fedora had too many steps to do for me (while having lots of pre-installed stuff I didn't need).
  • Bazzite KDE / 2 weeks / I stayed in the Fedora world and went the opposite route: atomic and gamer centric. I had a great time with it! It´s definitely the most accessible and stable gaming distro I've tested so far, though you do see some rigidity of the atomic architecture, which made me want to test less "frozen" OS again.
  • Nobara KDE / 1 day / Nobara felt again like a logical next step then. Just I started to ponder whether KDE was also something to challenge. Up to now, I had the idea that Gnome was for people with Mac experience, and KDE for people from Windows...
  • Nobara Gnome / 1 week / That took a few days to get used to it, it's different for sure, but after a few adjustements, I'm settling in! It suits most of my needs, it actually felt easier than KDE for some things (my HDD was auto-mounted?), and I find it visually classier. Gaming on Steam -as for CachyOS and Bazzite- has been a breeze. Only the app manager that failed to uninstall pre-installed apps with just a generic error message felt really bad.

Here I am. I feel grateful to be on Linux now. Linux has been my daily driver for a month now, and I'll stick to Nobara Gnome for some more time. I still struggle with simple stuff like installing apps when it is not on DNF (ex. Slack --> get the website RPM, Obsidian --> get the community maintained flatpak, etc.). I have much to learn but I enjoy getting proficient at several OS now!

Linux nobara doesn’t boot

My friend lend me his pc to test it before I buy it. He reinitialized the pc before giving it to me.

I had a few issues with it. For example:

the pc would go into sleep mode when it woke up everything would be frozen.

Or sometimes the computer didn't want to shut down so I had to do a forced shutdown.

And the system failed to update.

it was bad but now it's worst.

Linux doesn't boot anymore. Everything worked just fine before he put the computer back to factory settings.

I wanted to share a project I built called Distro Fighter (distrofighter.com). It features 32 distros, 16 desktops, a terminal campaign, Versus showdowns and a Distro Wars multiplayer coming soon, all to help users find the right fit Linux distro and desktop and learning Linux while hopefully having fun.

The main focus right now is VS mode just launched tonight, and it is being actively updated. Feel free to check it out, and let me know what you think!: https://distrofighter.com/versus 🐧 ❤️
