Team Selection and what is North trying to do?

So we find ourselves sitting 4-6 and 12th on the ladder and wildcard round appears to be dangling like a carrot to a club desperate to say they "are back in finals"

There are 2 different ways we can pick the squad

Option A) Chasing a wildcard finals spot.

Option B) Games into young tslent

Currently there are 7 teams that look fairly locked in for finals Swans, Freo, Cats, Suns, Hawks, Lions, Demons.

The club believes that we are part of the chasing pack and with some easy fixturing to come maybe we can finish 10th.

So our team selection is based on that. We pick the most experienced and oldest players to give ourselves the best shot at winning games (or so the coaches believe) at the expense of younger players.

Hardeman, Harvey, Whitlock, Banch, Dovaston, Dawson and George are all being kept out by the likes of Daniel, McDonald, Konstanty, Spargo, Zurharr, Logue, Darling and Corr.

Are we really better off playing Daniel, Zurharr & McDonald over Harvey and Hardeman?

Are we really better off playing Konstanty and Spargo over Banch, Dovaston and George?

We've drafted Dawson as a key defender but apparently the worst defense in the game wouldn't be improved by him spending maybe 20% a game playing there?

I truly believe the club needs to bite the bullet and play youth over age and back the kids to win the winnable games. I firmly believe we can still beat Eagles, Port, Essendon and Tigers with a young side.

Back in the youth to get it done and if they can't well we've figured out they won't hack it so get rid of them.

Boomer Harvey

Ye right 👍 lads 🍻 still pissed Scotty gave Boomer his marching orders , this record belongs to Boomer and not Pendles , Scotty has a lot to answer for , and rightly so he will get his marching orders very soon , yes very soon , and you can take that to the Bank

Weird coincidences between Brad Scott and boomer

Bit random but thought it was worth a post
Brad scott and Boomer actually versed each other back in 95 or something in und 18s Lol and years later ended his career in disgusting fashion.

Brad Scott was also playing on pendles in his first game as Scott stated in a recent post . Just crazy to think and this man is the one who changed history if Boomer kept playing another 2 years I don’t think the record would be touched

Some balanced words for your scary sunday

Not my words but can agree on many things. Its not worth living in hypotheticals cause we havent beat any of brisbane, gws, geelong, sydney or now adelaide and we are on a 5 game loss streak. But the improvement is still stark from where we have been in previous years. We cant let that 2nd quarter keep us down for long cause the media will be trying to do that for us anyway all week. We move on to the suns. Another good chance for a respected scalp.

Don’t despair

This was always coming. We ran until the end against Sydney last week. Young team, travelling to Adelaide where we haven’t played well in a long time, against an Adelaide team looking to cement a spot in the top 6.

The Crows are a good team and they’re on their home deck. It’s disappointing that we are getting completely cooked, but sometimes that happens. The team is growing. Young teams rarely travel well.

The important thing is that this is the first game this season where this is happening. We had 2 bad quarters against West Coast and ran out of legs against Geelong at home. We’ve been in every other game.

Two years ago we lost, what was it, 20 games in a row? Most of them were by 10 goals? The club has come a long way.

We will take our lumps today, head into the bye for a much needed refresh and I actually believe we will come out of the bye with some good performances. Just gotta survive and put in a good performance against GC next week first. I haven’t felt like that in 10 years.

Don’t despair. Ignore Caro and Cornes this week when they start spewing their nonsense about “Clarko might be fired” or “north haven’t improved”. Lies from hacks. We know better. Improvement isn’t linear but the trajectory this year is well up.

I’ve seen enough

Blamires - great story, not up to it.
Kostanty - doesn’t impact defensively to be such a liability in attack
Spargo - enough games now and no impact outside 1 game
Logue - not up to it
Trembath - needs a rest I think, but not helped by our despicable entry.

Hardeman in for blamires
Not sure who is the answer for our small forward problem

Established players need to be better
LDU - only works one way. 2nd efforts are poor.
Larkey - if he’s actually injured rest him.
Comben - if we had any key defenders on our list drop him, but we don’t.
Sheezel - can’t complain too much, but well held after the first 10 minutes
Zurhaar needs a run in the vfl
Darling - again, can’t really do much as a fwd (2nd quarter especially)

F50 entries are genuine Div 4 local footy standard. The stark contrast between ours and Adelaide’s are telling.

EDIT: Although it literally says I’ve seen enough, I’m very keen to see how they respond. That will show how much growth we’ve made. Can we adjust and get back into the game (not necessarily on the scoreboard, but around the ground).

Defenders

In our squad today we had 2 players that played defense in their junior years.

McDonald and Will Dawson....

Dawson didn't play defense today.

How could a list manager ever survive this?

Port Melbourne V North Melbourne

A good win by the mighty borough today while I was going for since r/NorthMelbourneFC are my team in the r/AFL, so I guess you could tell I was on the fence with this one, happy with the result either way I just wish that the singers put in better effort in their match against the r/adelaidefc

Key Defenders

Ben McKay has been left out of the bombers side again. Given he’s a reasonably young key defender, should north have a look at him (thank you for reading my shit post)

A quarter of complete submission: Shinboner, Round 10 v Adelaide

No one gets any prizes for guessing what this week's post is all about; a clip-heavy, deep dive into everything that happened in the second quarter for those who can stomach it.
