Do you think a superhero who has powers that can only defend against powerful attacks but lets minor ones through would be a good enough reason for a criminal organization to hire elite martial artists?
I am tinkering with the idea of a superhumanly strong character that uses kinetic energy as a defense. The kinetic energy comes from his body as counterforce to mitigate the impact of blows or to push away harmful thing like fire, but it only activates when something carries incredibly high amounts of energy, which means he can essentially tank a car crashing into him at full speed, but a normal man's punch can damage him as easily as it would anyone else. With this in mind, he would be bulletproof due to the condensed kinetic energy of bullets activating his powers, so would a criminal group that wants to fight him be incentivized to hire martial artists?

Cytherian nyraxians: abandoned but not helpless
}
Nyraxians are a humanoid alien with a mix of spotted hyenas and lions. Their matriarchal societies are owed to the fact that Female Nyraxians are larger and stronger than the males with a 5:1 gender ratio.
They were originally space pirates who landed on Cythra but due to an infection that turned the crew into zombies, they were stranded and unable to call for help. Over time, they settled and spread out from the ship and form individual tribes.
The capital is located in the middle of a steppe and is built around the ruins of their old ship. It is where the main decisions are made, where things are produced and the educational centre. It has the highest population and holds the highest ratio of male to female.
At first, once they had a stable population, they set up satellite villages 10 minutes away from the centre. They Nyraxians will remain there for a few months to scout out the area before fully settling. Once settled and after a few more months, they will receive 1 male who will routinely be checked up on and is response for increasing their population, acting as a negotiator and translator between tribes and as a bargain chip. If they are trusted, another male is added and once the population gets high enough, the settlement will send another group of Nyraxians out to do the same thing over and over again.
If there is a surplus in population and there are more than enough males born, the young males and some exceptional females are taken to the capital to be examined, taught to read and write and then either pick/are given roles.
Female lives aren't too different from their home life. They may be soldiers, guards, farmers, political officers and other important roles. They can move up the social ladder and chose different jobs. Many of them end up getting married due to the social and economic benefits but single males are rare and most of the time they end up in polyamorous relationships with the first wife being the head and highest rank followed by their children. They are responsible for keeping the house together but also caring for each other, especially their shared husband.
males are usually scribes and barganing chips that are loaned out to others. They are also taught negotiation skills, languages, cultures, religion and are sent to a random tribe with exceptional males ending up as monks, priests and prophets.
Normally males are at the bottom of society, often forced to be covered head to toe and forbidden from going out in public or even speaking depending on where they can go. The main ways they can go up in society is either by remaining in the same tribe they were Born in or by marriage and even then, they are only the highest depending on their family's status and are still the lowest rank of the family. They are well protected in a family and are given more benefits but are soelie st the mercy of their matriarchs.
Exceptional males have a lot more freedom and can chose who they Marry without losing their status and can even out rank other females.
Once a month, they perform the ritual of yu'kata. This resembles basic spaceship matinance and activities, at this time, the best and brightest will try to activate their derelict ships on board distress beacon too little to no success.
They may also build statues of technology and devices from their home world. This includes, ships, vehicles, phones, tablets, radar dishes and radio towers etc. They also build figures such as political figures, fungal towers and a star map of the original and new (at the time) Nyraxian home world.
This repeats over and over again until they took over the area and built a city with multiple satellite villages, a canal that separates 2 continents, farms and a decently functional society baring similarities to Egypt and the Aztec empire.
Normally, the Cytherian wildlife would immediately attack them, however, the fact that they aren't advanced, has a relatively small population and are inexperienced means that they aren't a threat and are ideally assimilated.
One night, a thousand years later, hundreds of stars floated down, something their legends told them would either bring them an age of enlightenment or would bring horrors beyond comprehension. Unfortunately, they were humans on a war path throughout the galaxy. And they were already well aware of Nyraxians and wanted them dead. In addition, they were arriving on Generation ships that caused cancer rates spiked as the ships leaked radiation and toxic chemicals into the air.
Several year later, as the Nyraxians moved into the forest, they came across human hunters and attacked them. Some got away but 2 with one injured, and dead and another making it back to their tribe. A war was soon started with human and Nyraxians tribes with reaching a stalemate until a plague wiped out the human tribes, leaving the Nyraxians unaffected.
They wouldn't see another human for a few more years and when they did, they tried to capture them. The problem was that there was a newer, bigger ladder human called Limbermen. They were genetically modified humans with cat and monkey DNA. They could stick to walls, have claws as long as their fingers between their knuckles and were just as big and strong as they were. All of a sudden, they were being pushed back to the dunes and the fridges of the forests.
To make matters worse. The human tribes were taking their food and were diverting some of their water towards themselves.
The biggest threat however wouldn't come until 6 moths after. It wasn't the storms, the droughts, the 20 yearlong seasons or the tribes.
It was trains.
Once humanity had a good foothold on the planet, they began to reconstruct their supply lines, and the CTS (Cytherian, transportation, service) was organised to do this.
The Nyraxians first taste of the unstoppable progress of man was a construction train. An armoured train with the ability to build tracks wherever they go. The CTS Planned to build a railway connecting 2 generation ships together even if it went through several villages and a canal. The Nyraxians would attempt to negotiate with the CTS but given their previous interactions with humans, they would be given an ultimatum: stay out of the way, help them out or die.
The capital didn't take the ultimatum well and began attacking the trains and railway systems. This began with the battle of halud where the train, crewed by 70 of the CTSs finest, was on course to go through the village of halud when it was met with an army over 10k.
The battle lasted 4 hours, in the first 5 minutes, in the evening, the train stopped and deployed drones to spot everyone, the next few hours were spent by the train, flattening the land and decimating anything and everything that remained.
It took 5 years for the train to reach its destination and set up a functioning railroad between the generation ships. The Nyraxians delayed them by 4 weeks.
From there A pattern would often emerge, the CTS gets commissioned to do x, x involves moving the Nyraxians out the way, the CTS sends people over to tell them what's going on and often pay them to help out or to leave but often hires mercenaries or their own private army to exterminate them. The Nyraxians would have their victories and even cause some projects to get cancelled but they almost always end up getting to retaliate against.
The main reason why they are still around is because they farm a rare plant that is used for medicine, natural resources and free manpower they act as a vassal state in an area where humans don't frequent.
At first, the CTS abuse their power, using their private military to kidnapped villagers and enslaved them. While enslaved, they worked gruelling hours, building more railway systems and expand the canal so that ships can sail through. The main reason it was considered brutal was that they had poor endurance relative to humans and their technology. Eventually, after thorough hazing and brainwashing, they took up more of a guard role, protecting locations close to Nyraxian settlements.
due to their close proximity to humans, discouragement of cultral practice and promotion of human culture, and the new generations not growing up around the original homes resulted in the Nyraxians being humanised and in many cases, revering humans as saviours, especially since the caste system from their home was non-existent and while humans were considered their superiors, they saw eye to eye, especially when it came with the workers. In addition, the male Nyraxian found it liberating as that could enjoy many freedoms that they couldnt in their original homes.
After a few centuries of domination, a multitude of factors both in and beyond the Nyraxians control, caused the CTSs power to be diminished and the Nyraxians gained independence along with some stolen tech with the exception of CTS/pet/slave Nyraxians who decided to keep their relationship with humanity and remained their allies.
Ever since then, it was back to business. The Nyraxians began taking over larger areas and expanding their power whole avoiding human and Limbermen settlements. Often times they would hold strategic locations for ransom but ultimately stay away from humans.
Their biggest threat, aside from the wildlife, are Limbermen. Limbermen not only match their strength and exceed them in speed, but their biggest advantages are that they are human. Because they are human, they have access to tech the Nyraxians could only dream of. Additionally, they sweat and are great throwers like humans.
To a Nyraxian, hurting a human is a nightmare. More will come from a longer distance than you can go in a day easily. While they are relatively frail, they are never alone, can hit you from a distance and never stop. No matter how fast you are, they are always closer than the last time.
Hurting a Limberman is all the same, but they can almost certainly beat you in close range too.
As a result, it's been documented in Nyraxian culture and imagery that humans and Limbermen are to be feared and avoided with many human Nyraxian interactions triggering a phobia like response.
Currently the main Nyraxian colony has been steadily expanding but has repeatedly butted heads with the local Limbermen tribes who stump their growth and the pet Nyraxians working for their new masters.
Stellaris' teammate and the team's resident aquatic fighter, Trench
Trench was a former marine biologist and possibly a teacher before being sent to the hospital in critical condition. After undergoing A Tech's experimental medical procedure, he gained enhanced physicality, as well as several aquatic based abilities. He has superhuman strength, durability, and agility to survive in the ocean depths. He is able to use electroreception and possibly echolocation, like sharks, electric eels, and dolphins. His hands are essentially tasers, letting him use a scaled up version of what electric eels can do. Pufferfish like blades coated in venom portrude from his wrist, and are retractable. He can also breathe underwater. But his most devestating ability is the one based on the mantis shrimp. He can build up elastic potential energy in his arm, then release it to throw a single devestating punch so violent and fast it produces a small explosion, which launches him back. This takes a lot of energy, so he can't use it too many times in a fight. His suit is meant to resemble the ocean depths, with shell like armor, barnacle like coatings, and coral like decorations. He has two seperate suits, a suit for night time and stealth operations, which has an iron like coloring after the scaly foot gastropod, a snail from the Indian Ocean that has an iron shell, and a daytime version, which has more tropical and friendly colors, such as brighter coral and a lighter shell armor. His daytime suit also has glowing soft blue eyes instead of orange/red like the more volcanic night suit. His suit also has a decorative part of the armor ending at the shoulder that resembles a crashed ship, which is where his cape, which is the sail of the ship attached to the suit. The night version uses a jolly Roger cape. His mask is black with glowing eyes, with a helmet meant to look like the scaly foot gastropod's shell. He also has increased regeneration like a star fish.
Minor Faction: The Sailors
The Sailors are a group of wandering rogue sorcerers that use their magic to create flying ships made of metal and stone and magically enhanced and protected. They use these ships to raid villages and occasionally small towns, though those raids often end up in heavy casualties.
The raiders are a very strong minor faction, numbering in the hundreds of sorcerers with connections all over the world. Theyre considered too dangerous for most forces to engage, and are often warded off by larger armies. The Sailors often only recruit sorcerers with sky based abilities, believing others to be inferior.
A large portion of their forces were wiped out when their newest leader wiped a town off the map, a vicious action even for the Sailors, and Caspian Induin tracked down their fleet and acted. (He was a 4 Star at this time, so any of you who know what that is know how fucked they were.)

Could your OC's governments stop these various real life cosmic impacts?
Your world's main government's are made away of a large scale interstellar object going towards their planet that will impact them in a month. They have to destroy or redirect it, or else they face an extinction level event. They cannot use reality warping to stop the threat, nor can they use transformation abilities to transform the object into something else. They can use any resources they could reasonably get in the month before impact, but they must also deal with the consequences if they cut it too close and break it up in a way where the debris can still cause a threat. They can team up with other governments on their planets and any organization that has a stake in not wanting to be obliterated by giant space rocks.
Round 1: the meteor that killed the dinosaurs. It was estimated to be around 10 kilometers long, was estimated to travel at mach 58, and generated the energy equivilent of 100 teratons of TNT.
Round 2: A rogue planet the size of Earth. Rogue planets are planets that were flung out of their solar systems that hurtle through space. Some can move at 100,000 km/hour, which is around mach 80.
Round 3: a relativistic jet from a black hole. These are streams of plasma that are shot out of a black hole, they move at a large portion of the speed of light and have been known to destroy stars with the sheer amount of energy they exert. They gave been observed to reach temperatures of around 18 trillion degrees farenheit. Yhwy can reach close to 99 percent light speed.
Calhoun does not trust people from other dimensions
Calhoun, being the man in charge of protecting America from supernatural threats, has an innate distrust of anyone outside his dimension, fearing the worst about interuniversal invasions. If he sees anyone from another universe, he wills study anything about their powers, limits, ans weaknesses. He will have his men comb the areas they were spotted for DNA to analyze it for weaknesses or differences in biology. This also included a deal with the wandering teenager of the multiverse Vagabond, purchasing a sample of anti magic materials from him.
Ask Stellaris (Or Star Forged, his work in progress name) anything, so I can develop him
Ask A Tech's strongest hero and superhero team leader anything. He is 30 years old, the Grey hair is not due to age. He is new to the hero scene and posseses flight, super strength, heat vision, enhanced senses, and super speed. Ask him anything.
Show me your villain OCs and I will assign them a hero.
Ill need to know thier setting, whether fantasy, sci fi, superhero, realistic, historical, etc. I will also need to know their personality, abilities, power levels, and more to make a more accurate call on potential dynamics. I will be making a choice based on how good the dynamics are and how well they fit into the world. I don't have many fantasy characters so keep that in mind.
How many times stronger and or more durable than a normal human should Nitro be?
At the beginning, his top sprinting speed would be around 120-140 miles an hour, and at the end if I decide to let his powers grow in speed, increases to 200 miles an hour at most. His body produces a chemical only he can metabolize, which is energy rich and fuels his super speed. However, I also want him to have super strength to a minor degree and super durability to not tear himself apart while using his powers, but still be able to be threatened by bullets. How many times of an increase would he need to survive his own speed, to not rip himself apart at a low end and at the highest end to be able to survive running into a concrete wall at his max speed with maybe a few broken ribs and a concussion at most? For the durability, I am looking for how many times more durable his bones, tissues, and organs would need to be in comparison to a normal human's to survive being able to throw punches that go maybe 300-400 miles an hour without injuring himself, and to be able to run at his running speeds without injuring himself, as well as the collision i described earlier.
Bonus: I know the strength part isn't part of the research aspect of the question, I just want you all's opinions on how much I should give him. I don't want him to be able to crush concrete or bend firearms, but still have enough strength where a criminal could see him use it and go "Oh wow, I am not getting within arm's reach of that guy." I want him to have impressive but not super OP strength gor a street level setting, maybe he can throw a man across a room with one arm at the maximum.

Show me your Hero OCs and I'll assign them a villain from my various universes
Every Hero needs a villain. Show me your heroic OCs, and I can assign them a villain i think would fit their rogues gallery. Tell me the type of universe they inhabit, their power level, abilities, personality, experience level as a hero. This is for any type of heroic figure, but I mostly have superheroes and a few fantasy characters. Keep in mind that my characters are not super powerful, the most powerful hero I have that I am willing to share here is prohably going to cap out at being able to destroy a moon at most with supreme effort by the end of their story, so keep that in mind.
Stellaris, A Tech's strongest hero and golden boy
Sam Carters was a normal man, known by his community as a good man who helped others and was happy in all facets of his life. His life would soon take a turn for the worse as he contracted a terminal illness, with no treatment in sight. Not willing to give up on fighting for his life, he signed up for experimental medical trials by A Tech, which was hosting a series of trial runs for a new medical treatment. Like many of A Tech's trial patients, he awoke with powers, and in fact his were the most potent of them all. He could fly, shoot lasers from his eyes, crush the strongest of alloys with his grip, and possessed enhanced speed and senses. Despite only being 30 years old, he has gray hair. A Tech hailed him as their greatest hero, marketing him as the world's strongest super. Carters now struggles to adapt in a rapidly changing world, as he deals with leading a team, the Miracle Makers, and the politics of a corporate superhero team. He will struggle to stand by his morals and cement himself as worthy of his gifts, as his team soon begins to find out that A Tech is not what it seems.
What hobby should I give Patriot for when he is outside of his work?
He already has martial arts, TV, and working out as hobbies.
Which power would your street level OC add to their own?
I'm developing a new story where powers come from mutations that come from eating pieces of a mushroom that permanently boosts physical abilities. Which ability would you personally rather have?
Eyes/eyesight: Much better hand eye coordination. Much faster reactions. They can see in close to complete darkness, and they can see much farther and in more detail if they focus. They can also see weak points in structures and organisms. The increased hand eye coordination lets them react much faster. A character who is essentially a cowboy from a western flick will be one of the people with this set, he uses the weak point gathering to shoot and cause massive destruction.
Hearing: Can hear acutely. Also has an extra organ that lets them use echolocation like Daredevil. Can hear heartbeats in a wide radius, or a branch snapping hundreds of meters away.
Touch: Their skin is sensitive enough to feel air currents and magnetic fields. Can use this to guide themselves in the wild. The aircurrents means they will feel even the slightest shift in movements around them, and can easily feel the most faint tremors in the ground.
Smell: Can smell things from miles away, like a bloodhound. Can’t be snuck up on due to being able to smell a person anywhere around them. Can detect poison by smelling it and detect some diseases.
Taste: Can taste objects in the air. Also has a hyper powerful immune system that makes them all but immune to poison.
Strength and durability: All of the people mutated in the setting have enhanced durability and strength, but these ones have a focus on it. Their blood acts as a non newtonian shear thickening fluid, hardening on impact. This allows them to take bullets with only minor amounts of blood, but they can still pierce, and rifle rounds can still do more damage than pistol rounds and breach muscle. Can break stone and wood and produce more explosive force with their strikes. Their blood also hardens into an incredibly solid and strong glass when exposed to air, making it harder for them to bleed out and acting almost like armor in areas that are cut or where the skin is broken.
Shapeshifting: They have skin like an octopus, letting them mimic texture and change colors to blend in. They can compress and extend their spine to grow a few inches taller or shorter. Possibly even let their limbs do this as well.
Digestion: They have a powerful microbacteria in their gut. They can produce fumes from the bacteria which is channelled out their mouth in a stream, which gets on other people and can act as a poison and start spreading rapidly and is hard to take off. or start eating at them. Maybe even produce sacs of fungus on themselves that can be taken off and thrown.
Stamina: Users can do high energy activities for hours and hours on end. Their ATP cycle replenishes faster, they produce no fatigue toxins, and they need less sleep. Their body is much more energy efficient.
Agility: Users are noticably faster than even teh other superhumans on this lists baseline enhanced speed, at around maybe a 45 mile an hour sprint. They have excellent hand eye coordination that allows them to perform feats of acrobatics that makes them insanely nimble and flexible. They can balance on almost anything with minimal training.
Speed: Can run at a max of 90 miles an hour, enhanced stamina, and can punch over twice as fast as their top running speed. This is a subclass of agility, not as ninble as agility users but much faster. Also scaled up reaction and limb movement speeds.
Keep in mind all of them as a baseline have enhanced strength, speed, agility, durability, and healing, the ones who prioritize certain functions and features just have theirs be much more pronounced. The strength as a baseline is enough to break through things like wood and granite with strikes and ensures that normal people would need to literally mob them to stand a chance at physically overpowering them, and the speed the average one can go is around 35 miles an hour.
Show me an OC of yours and I will assign them one of mine based on what I think would make for the most interesting crossover TV special or movie
Tell me about their powers, setting, time period, and personality so I can work out which ones of mine would make for the best dynamics in a crossover story. I am thinking along the lines of those old TV crossover episodes in cartoons.
A few sword questions about the use of a Yatagan
Note: I know the artwork doesn't have the sheath, sorry.
So, one of my main characters is supposed to be an expert with a Yatagan, and I am just coming here to ask a few questions about them, just to make sure i don't make stupid mistakes.
So, I have a bit of training in saber fencing, and I was told Yatagan is quite similar ( thus why she is in parry position 4). How similar is it actually?
While she is a transhuman monster who can slice fast enough to break the sound barrier with the tip, Is their is any proper way to deal with someone wearing armor with such a sword?
In an actual fight with such a weapon, what would be the proper way to use your hands and feet to assist in the killing the person process? As above, she is freakishly fast and strong. ( I sadly only know fencing, which doesn't allow me to sock people in the face)
