Can y’all tell me some fun facts about the show?

I just finished it and it is one of my absolute favorite shows I have ever watched! I would love it if you could share some fun facts about the show cause I’m soooo invested in it.

I mean fun facts like “the actors who played Nathan and Haley couldn’t stand each other irl” (this is just an example I have no clue)

Also I heard the actress who played Haley was in a cult ?? What was that about?

What is with the high heels?

Something I noticed on my upteenth rewatch - most of the time most of the women are wearing heels… In super impractical situations lol. Like who wears heels around their house all the time?! 🤣

Haley pregnant in season 8 wearing heels while rummaging through the house looking for her Valentine’s gift? Getting up on the counter while in her third trimester to go through kitchen cabinets while wearing high heels?! Like be so for real right now hahaha

About Hayley’s singing… 🫩

So I started binging One Tree Hill since it ended up on my Netflix homepage a couple of weeks ago.

I never expected to get hooked, especially since the plot summary didn’t seem that interesting but here I am, 7 episodes into season 2. The characters are interesting and the pacing of the plot is pretty good.

And I just want to know how everyone feels about Hayley/Bethany Lenz’s singing ?

The show narrative is running with her being this diamond in the rough with incredible talent that should be shown to the world but I find she’s not only average sounding but that the songs she sings are straight up bad, to the point where suspension of disbelief as someone watching the show is getting increasingly hard.

I know 2000s shows loved to do that thing where any cast member who said they sung could get a special episode sequence where they perform a song, but this is actually wild seeing as Nathan is presumably putting his basketball career on the sidelines so Hayley can dive into hers as a musician.

She’s at a CLUB singing a monotone ballad and everyone is impressed? Does her character trajectory eventually evolve beyond the singing stuff?

Peyton and Lucas at the Beginning of Season 6

I’m a huge fan of this couple, especially when he gives her that incredible declaration at the end of Season 4. It’s a scene I never get tired of watching.
That said, I absolutely hate their storyline in Season 5 and the way she comes running back the moment he calls her, even though just a few days earlier he told her he hated her. Why doesn’t she have more self-respect? How can you let yourself be treated like that, even by a man you once believed was the love of your life?
I also hate them at the beginning of Season 6, and I hate the way she comes running back to him like a dog.

First time watcher

I’m almost through season one and I actually really love Peyton and Jake together 😭 Im someone who has to know what happens so I googled if they ever date. I know everyone is a Lucas and Peyton shipper but they (Jayton) just seem so…sweet? Ugh.

Pilot Episode - Basketball scene

Rewatching OTH.. I know they had a different pilot episode where Haley/Reagan was played by Samantha Shelton instead of Bethany. Never aired.

In the aired pilot we see Bethany as Haley. But the end of the episode in the 1x1 with Lucas and Nathan.. you see one clip on Haley (added in). But Reagan is still there front and center lol and runs into Lucas’s arms right after he wins that 1x1.

I guess they just didn’t want to reshoot that scene again for the pilot.. but I’m glad they went with Bethany for Haley. I could never imagine Reagan be with Nathan or Lucas’s bestie lol

The Intro after S7

Omg why did they void the original singer for the intro? One of my favorite parts about this show was the intro, it just felt so wholesome and right coming from Gavin DeGraw but than the completely switch it up to more than one different singer come S8 and I absolutely cannot stand the abomination of it. I just skip the intro now but man its disappointing.

quinn and clay

so from what i’ve been reading on here a lot of y’all hate (or at least really don’t feel) the season 7 storytelling or most of what happens after lucas and peyton leave the show.
i’ve been rewatching for the first time since i was 15 and for the last 6 seasons i was wondering why i remembered having so strong emotions towards the show and some lovestory’s back then because literally no lovestory before season 7 didn’t reactivate anything.

but now that i reached season 7, it all comes back. apparently clay and quinn (and julian & brooke) were the only couple i ever really felt?? but you hate them? is there anyone relating to this? i just love how they are falling in love in such a honest, drama-free and mutual way. peyton and lucas just gave me the ick at some point 😭 and don’t get me wrong i still enjoyed the other seasons but the lovestorys didn’t do too much for me

Rachel

I am so baffled this rewatch about why these characters continue to associate with Rachel or give her the benefit of the doubt. She is genuinely a terrible person, everything she’s done has cause insane damage. I mean she led Mouth on who continued to vouch for her and swore she was a good person, she release the time capsule essentially causing the shooting, she stole the limo at the wedding (how tf did she even get the keys??) and almost killed Cooper. I know later she tries to go after Nathan. She sends Brooke away on the weekend of the cheer showcase, she orchestrated the whole Chris situation and manipulated Lucas into believing she wanted to go on a date with Chris Keller.

Why was she even invited to the wedding? Why do they talk to her? I really don’t get why (within the show, obviously the writers kept her character around) these characters would keep her around them. It feels very unreal

did they completely change luke’s character..?

i’m on s1 e14 so please no major spoilers!!

in the first few episodes, he’s this shy bookish dude that’s really kind but kinda labeled as a “bad boy” because he plays basketball at the park. i thought that him starting to be kind of douchey towards women was because he was letting the popularity of being on the basketball team get to his head, but i’m not so sure anymore… does he ever go back to how he was in the first few episodes, or did the writers just completely forget how they developed his character?

I can't stand Haley James Scott

The first time I watched this show I did love her. This is my second time watching and I didn't expect to feel this way. If you love her then just skip this. This is cathartic venting.

She's the most selfish self righteous character besides Dan. Nathan absolutely married his father.

  1. She tutors Nathan for lucas but ends up having a crush. Nathan still bullies lucas but she makes lucas take the high road. Fine, I could accept this until I kept washing the show.

  2. She finds out Nathan watches porn and the whole world falls apart. She's entitled.

3.After their married, she kisses chris. When peyton asks her about it, her first response is to SCOFF. Like how dare you call her out!

She talks it out with peyton which i think is valid. She realized she didn't feel for Chris but they were connected through music. Cool.

3.the second she finds out Nathan slept with her sister before even knowing she exist, she punishes him for it. Nathan by now is just use to saying sorry. She's also emailing Chris and blames the whole thing on her sister. Her sister takes the fall.

  1. She runs away to be in tour and doesn't ask her husband to go. Red flag. He goes after her later on and he says he'll do anything to make it work but she's back peddling saying "maybe we rushed into things". Then he decides to move on with his life. That's when she comes back. (And according to Keith in the angel episode where lucas has a heart attack, she wouldn't have come back if lucas didn't go see her.)

  2. So she comes back and decides to fight for her marriage. She literally gets everyone to tell Nathan to forgive her BTW. They finally sleep together and when he freaks out about birth control, instead of reassuring her husband and helping the situation she says "your career as a basketball player is secure but your future as my husband isn't" and walks out the door. Manipulation 101. Like the second Nathan gave her an inch of love and then got scared she turned right back into this emotional blackmailing wife.

  3. After telling Nathan that she has bigger dreams than trapping him, and that she is in fact on birth control, she ends up pregnant??? And when does she tell him? Not when she knows. No when he tells her he got in to Duke, he can't even have that for himself. She drops the news and is so confused and upset and that he's scared and upset. She's mad that he isn't jumping with joy. Making him the villain. So they are struggling with money, they need full scholarships and she surprises him with a kid. Great

And yes I know it takes two but she had already made up her mind and because Nathan has codependency issues, he's going to do whatever she says.

  1. Nathan jeopardizes his future by shaving points and owing money to loan sharks. Again for her and the baby. He's a good man.

  2. She walks out on Nathan AGAIN once she finds out about the loan sharks and how they hit her with a car. She also isn't really there for him when he's scared about the situation.

  3. Right before prom the brooke/Nathan sex tape drops and she acts like a victim. Girl you knew he was a complete asshat before you guys even met.

She's the worst character because she a self serving, self righteous manipulator. I know she's pregnant and a hormonal teenager and he's her first love but the way she rips her friends for any and every mistake they make is trash. She Dan 2.0.

Edit: lmao ok I'm being very dramatic with the dan 2.0. Like I said this is just cathartic venting. She's not as bad as Dan but the way she emotionally blackmails Nathan is gross

Okay…now what?

This was my first OTH watch. I’m not going to discuss the camera mistakes or some of the absurd storylines, it’s a relatively old show anyway and some things are unrealistic we already know that.

However, the nostalgic feel this show gave me was unreal, it felt part of my day. The characters felt like real people to me, people I wanted to wake up and see the next day. Now that I’m done with it, it feels like “what should I do with my life”.

I don’t know if it’s the show itself, or if it’s the freshness of what they had at the time vs the time we live in today; the reality of that time, what places looked and felt like, even the phones they had.

Relatable?

Lucas is ultimate fashion icon in s1-3!

God I love his outfits sm? Like they were so cool I'm surprised no one seems to appreciate it? Say whatever you wanna say about character but outfits peak bruh especially in s3 the man was peak everything about him is peak in s3 idc. All teen boys should dress like him.

S4-6 were not so good didn't suit actor nor match character vibes.

I'm a girl btw.

Peyton, Haley and Brooke.

We were robbed with trio girlhood amazing scenes. They were always fighting with each other for men it's frustrating to watch. They all have amazing chemistry with each other. The writers robbed us so bad.

Btw unpopular opinion but I kinda ship Brooke and Peyton with each other they have insane electric chemistry with each other than they ever have with Lucas lmao he's third wheel.

Might be unpopular but..

Nathan is not so great. I mean, he literally has problems with haley exploring herself he's continuously trying to make her feel guilty about it throughout s2 (the amount of dependency was problematic ngl) and somehow in s3 the plot is trying to make me believe she was being stubborn and childish and hurt his feelings.

And I hate Peyton's weird speech on how selfish haley was for "abondoning" Nathan like? She went to fulfill her dream girl you're supposed to be her friend?

Yeah a girl who got married during teen years decided to think about herself first is childish, selfish and stubborn? I hate when women turned against another women for man. We were robbed with their friendship scenes.

Also, Haley was wrong when she kissed Chris and everyone pointed out that what about Nathan flirting with her sister? I think they were so young when they got married they shouldn't have married this much earlier.

Season 2 finale (first timer writing down her thoughts)

So season 2 overall wasn’t a banger for me, but judging from this subreddit that seems to be quite the popular opinion.

Anyways the finale kind of ate. At least regarding Dan getting poisoned and burned to death. I doubt he’ll actually die but the whole scene took me by surprise. I love how Dan is so hated and despised that the person dropping the lighter could literally be everyone xD but my guess is on Andy. At first I thought maybe Dan killed Andy and that’s why he never checked in, but that whole beef got so personal I think it’s actually the other why around (or at least attempted murder). Also I can’t imagine the writers to make one of the main cast the culprit like Deb or Keith. Plus Andy is kind of sidelined already, it would be a smart way to get rid of his character.

Talking about getting rid of characters: Felix and Anna were such a waste of screen time. Besides them conveniently leaving the show same season they didn’t really change anything and had boring storylines.

Now getting to the point that makes me actually quite angry. Disclaimer: I love Jake and Peyton together, like I think I might be their biggest supporter. So apart from him leaving once again is such a horrible reality, Peyton not being allowed to join him is just nonsense. Like his reasoning doesn’t make any god damn sense. It’s summer break for gods sake. She wouldn’t miss a thing. She could have at least joined him for 3 months and, if they didn’t find Jenny in that time, come back to school alone while Jake continues the search. Now he once again abandoned her, and for what? Spending 3 months on her own being terribly sad. Besides Lucas nobody else is even around. I dare say it’s a waste of time to spend her summer in tree hill. I really hate this. I literally cried along with Peyton begging him to not leave her

Small note on Peytons mom: I’m really unsure what that storyline will bring. There must have happened a huge conspiracy for her to fake her death and leave her husband and daughter in such a horrible way. Also who did they bury lol? I’d consider doubting her story, but I wonder what could that woman possibly get out of faking to be peytons mom? Plus Larry would only have to look at her once and call her out. So I guess she actually is her mum, but I doubt I’ll like that storyline. Grieving her mom, dealing with her absent father plus abandoned by the man she loves isn’t bad enough, I feel like this mother person will bring Peyton even more pain :(

The characters here are getting nuttier

What are they doing, the story and the characters are getting twisted, for one, I thought Deb was the only sensible in their family, and they put her into so much madness, yelling left and right, sleeping with Keith, painting her as milf to Tim, abandoning their family, wanting a divorce and getting back again, ugghh… what’s next????

Another is Peyton, c’mon, when do they plan making her grow up, I thought she’s the mature one and now she’s the drug addict???? Whyyyy?

Haley Season 7/8

So Haley just got past her depression about her mom dying, then she walks in on her sister shot on the floor. Like damn can she get a break 😭

Refresh my memory? What was Peyton referring to at the start of season 3 when she tells Lucas that they won’t tell Brooke?

Peyton is painting something in her room, Lucas comes in and says Brooke is back, and Peyton says they won’t tell her. Won’t tell her what?
