Finally got these two bad boys working together.

Took a lot of messing around but I finally got them playing nicely. BLE MIDI was a PITA so just stayed with USB out from the op1 into the opxy. (With a splitter to charge both)
Was able to figure out best way to setup midi tracks on opxy to record sounds on the op1 using the opxy sequencer.
For whatever reason, I would have imagined these two playing better together. But as well.

Can the OP-XY Drum and Bass?

Drum and Bass made on the OP-XY using a series of One-shots drums, Bass loops, pads, and a whole lot of tinkering with the frequencies. Hope you enjoy this one.

Can it Drum and Bass? .... Let me know

OP-XY x BASTL

Just figured I'd throw something together to show how cool this FX wizard actually is. It's been sitting on my shelf for months collecting dust, and I really wish I tried this out earlier! A cool little sidekick.

CHAMPION SOUND | UK DUBSTEP | Made on the OP-XY

I've been really enjoying making stripped-back dubstep recently. Nice kick, phat snare, then just adding bits in as I go.

I wasn't really feeling this one at first, or at least I'd got a bit stuck on the direction. Then I came across this mega sample of what I believe is an Arab reed flute known as a 'Ney' instrument. It's a mega trippy little sample, which given I live in the Middle East felt very fitting for my next track, and it just sat so well in the mix. It really opened up some doors in my mind and gave me some new direction.

From there, I added some more of the sound clash shout-outs I've been playing with a lot recently. Then finally came across the original "Champion Sound" sample, which I remember hearing in loads of mega DnB tracks that I probably still have somewhere on vinyl. Absolute classic! sample.

I spent a lot of time on the final mix, particularly getting each of the bass hits sitting where I wanted them. I also started messing around a lot more with the Duck function, ducking some of the subs and mid basses in and out against each other to give everything a bit more room.

To give the track some movement, I started chopping up parts of the full 'Ney' flute instrument sample from the beginning and bringing little pieces back throughout the track with different stretches of the LFOs. It gave some nice ear candy without having the same sample running all the way through. Added in some wobbles, and it all started coming together.

The final piece was the stabs. I felt like they just elevated certain drops and the little breakdowns in the middle. After that, it felt done.

Really enjoyed pulling this one together, and I think the overall mix is one of my best so far. Improving just a little bit each time.

As always, let me know how it sounds on your end! Hope you enjoy the Middle Eastern flavour on this one.

How long did it take for OP-XY to click with you?

I’m on day one and I’ve figured out a fair bit, but I’m missing some functionality of the OP-Z. How long did it take you to feel in sync with this thing?

This makes for a pretty decent carry case if you ask me. Is a dedicated case really necessary?

Disclaimer: I haven’t had this knocking about in my bag yet so I don’t know what state it would be in after several months, but it seems pretty sturdy to me. Has anyone used this as a case? Has it remained in one piece?

Classic Trance on OP-XY

This one was quite a challenge to figure out how to get that classic plucky trance sound, but I am really pleased with the final result. All sounds are from the factory synths and samples. The Trance pluck and strings are connected to the gyroscoop to create some filter movement and tonal changes. Recorded into Logic Pro with a little loudness bump on the master. Enjoy… and hopefully a nice trip down to memory lane :)

I made one of my favorite OP-XY tracks so far — giving the project file away free for my birthday

Made this one recently and it’s genuinely become one of my favorite things I’ve written on the OP-XY. The PR groove gives it a feel I love, and the variations from Brain are kind of magical.

It’s my birthday today and this is the first Cartridge of Season 2, so I’m giving the full .xy project away free at khordmaster.com

Would love to hear what you all think!

OP Patch Studio - Fixed and Updated

Hi! You may be familiar with the OP-PatchStudio

The project has been abandoned for a while, as the author is focusing on other projects. I just got my OP-XY and took a little time to add some functionality and fix some of the major bugs.

→ App: https://maxupp.github.io/op-patchstudio/ → Code: https://github.com/maxupp/op-patchstudio

Changelog:

  • Re-worked the multi sample workflow quite a bit. Drag&Drop notes to the piano roll works now. Replaced the simplistic, and quite frankly relatively useless, auto assignment functionality with a pitch-detection and a better filename inference logic.

  • Added the previously missing ability to specify the octave for a multisample preset. Meaning when you load up a bass patch, the track might start off at octave -2, instead of defaulting to 0.

  • Added explanations to most of the controls and field that were previously quite cryptic.

  • Fixed some of the bigger issues reported to the original project:

    • #110 — leaving a drum slot empty shifted every later sample down a key in the exported preset, so kits played back out of order on the device
    • #109 — marker drags no longer die when the cursor leaves the waveform
    • #97 — "assign from names" for the drum tool (kick/snare/hihat etc.)
    • #106 — "auto set start" trims the dead air off in-app recordings

Before you ask: Yes, most of this is Claude Code, credit to my employer who allows private usage of our Max licenses ;)

all triads and inversions on OP-XY - web tool

Given the beautiful response and support from the community for the triad graphics, and how tricky it would be to create one for the other chord qualities, I created a triad web tool (free): https://vjxy.app/triads/

You can see the same info in this graphic but you can also pick other qualities such as major, minor, diminished, augmented, etc. You can also pick a scale, or tap out what you are playing to find one, and see just the triads in it.

Let me know what you think, and if you have ideas to expand (or for other mini tools like this) please share!

I added a mini tool within the tool to know what scale I'm in by tapping two or more notes. That's been super useful to me, and I never found nice looking ones online. Might spin it into its own, and its coming to the VJ-XY app in future updates.

-melo-'s Triads, Inversions & Options - Graphic version

u/-melo- posted recently an amazing video on triads and their inversions on OP-XY and OP1-Field, and with this blessing went ahead and prepared a graphic to have them all visible at once. In case reddit is compressing the image, it is also available in full res and PDF at https://vjxy.app/resources/

Open to feedback, and if there's enough requests for an OP-1 Field one, I might get around to do that as well (although the notes are the same hehe).

Edit: the F that should be D has been fixed in the downloadables.

Page loop mode?

Editing sequences on OP-XY. If I'm making changes to bar 4, I have to listen through the preceding bars to hear the part I'm editing. This gets old quite fast. Elektron gear has page loop feature that will just loop the one page (or bar) that you're sequencing.

Does OP-XY have something like this?

Thanks for any insight.

Best way to setup a “template”

Is there a way to save all settings as the default when starting a new song? For example, track sound selections, bar lengths, default bpm, etc?
