Confused by the clear vs blurry faces

So I just started my first playthrough, only have 30 minutes played and the tutorial seems to suggest that the moment a face becomes clear that means the game has presented enough information to ID them. This is confusing to me because >!my 4th body is a women in a cabin near the captain's quarters all I've seen is that she was crushed by rigging before calling out for her Husband Martin. !<

After holding E over everyone's face in that scene the game cleared up the faces of not just her, but another woman who was present in that scene. Surely this isn't enough info to ID right? Am I misunderstanding this mechanic?

The Archives of Trevosa - Free Browser Game Rec

I'm always browsing itch.io for new games, and I need to share this gem with you:
https://jamwitch.itch.io/trevosa

It's Obra Dinn + Her Story + Chants of Sennaar.

Documents were partially translated, and it's your job to organize the family tree. You can search the documents by the untranslated words, but you only get the first three results. The end goal is to find the name and title of each person.

Simple, short, but very well done.

[WIP] Help choosing colors!!

Hi guys!
I’m making a cross stitch patch of the pocketwatch from Obra Dinn, and need help figuring out which colors to use for the inner ring of the project. I’ve provided pictures of the project and the in-game image.
I’m weighing a few options:
colors 1-4 as marked on the image as just solid colors
using the two greens I’ve already been using together (I use two strands at a time, so I’d use one light green and one dark green strand at once)
alternating the two greens I’ve been using in an every-other pattern
I’m open to suggestions… please help! Thanks!

Final Guesses

I am wondering how the end should be played. I arrived to the point where only smaller roles need identification (36 done). And I feel like its just about testing who is which and thats it. Like I know who is Russian, Chinese, Indian etc… but which one I dont know. I know the Two Peters brothers but precisely who, I have no clue.

Am I missing more hints that can give me precisely which Indian or Chinese guy each person are or the end game is just testing 2 or 3 possibilities for each page ?

Game seems to freeze after first fate

Hi everyone. I recently got the game after having played all of Pope's other games in the past and having enjoyed them a great deal.

It seems to somehow be bugged though. I can play the intro, go through the book and see the first death scene ("fate"?). After walking through the door to end that scene though, the screen fades to olive... and stays olive. No sounds, no nothing. No button imputs seem to do anything. The game is still "running", going off the steam FPS counter. Quitting the game and reloading the save just loads into the olive. Playing on another save is fine until going through the door again. After that: olive.

I did some looking online, but can't seem to find anyone else with the same fate (haha). Any ideas? Maybe I'm just missing some obvious gameplay thing.

One of the top 10 games I’ve ever played. Similar titles in terms of atmosphere and gameplay?

Can’t remember the last time a game had me hooked. I know it’s concept and style/atmosphere is unique, but are there any other titles (PS4/5) that have a similar feel?

My Obra dinn lite game : The Bird of the North

https://reddit.com/link/1vjunrs/video/cwi12z1smdih1/player

Hey there !
I feel stupid to not have shared my game project here !
Obra dinn is one of the best game i ever played: it inspired me to create my own "Obra dinn lite" game, in solo dev.

The game will be simpler and with a different gameplay, with first an investigation about "who said what" in the scene, and a chronological investigation with questions to answer. All of that behind a dark and mysterious story in 1921.

Feel free to wishlist the game if you like, try the demo, it will help to support it on Steam !
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4655600/The_bird_of_the_North/

Game releases on the 17th of September.

And if you have any question, feedbacks, pls share to me :)
Cheers !

I'm trying to get into this game but I can't get used to it?

I'm a bit confused on when and how things happen not in the story sense but the gameplay sense.

Sometimes scanning a body takes me into the past, sometimes it triggers a new cloud animation, sometimes it shows the title card, sometimes it takes me to the past again, sometimes it takes me to the present, sometimes it opens the journal or makes it seem like an act is starting. Sometimes I scan something, take a few steps then I start getting the pinhole animation and it takes me out like huh?

There was one time I feel like I was walking back and forth scanning the same body to take me in and out of a sequence but I thought doors were how you exit?

I'm trying to get through the game but not knowing what my action is going to do next is throwing me off because I can't reliably do what I think I'm going to do which makes it more frustrating than fun. Am I missing something about the core gameplay interaction because I can't seem to make consistent sense out of it?

One of the best 9 hours i have spent

Just finished the game yesterday and oh boy, what an experience. I absolutely adore this game.

I never thought a pixelated 3D(?) world can look so beautiful and immersive, like in the >!kraken scene!<, one of my favourite vignettes in the game. The ship Obra Dinn just keeps giving, it is so exciting and intriguing to explore each and every corner of the ship. A lot of thought and research went into designing the ship and it shows, it so well crafted with so much details. I would love to experience a whole world in that artstyle.

The gameplay and storytelling were the strongest points of this game(duh), how the game starts from the very end of the tale, keeping the player wondering who is right who is wrong, why did this happen, my mind was in a constant state of thinking and brainstroming from the >!DOOM!< chapter.
At no point during the playthrough i could predict where this story was going, until like i unlocked the chapters >!murder and the calling!<which were few of the last chapters i unlocked or around the last 2ish hours of my playthrough(i don't know if everyone unlocks the chapter in the same order or it can branch differently for different people). One of the regrets that i have is i tried guessing few characters on the basis of their accents and names, especially the >!chinese topmen!<, i didn't know i could look at their >!hammock numbers and feet !<. Now i want to do another playthrough but i already remember almost all of the fates 😭 , i need to wait months to have a blurry memory about this game so i can replay it, never wished for the ability to wipe my memory more than now.
The way the story unfolds and keeps you hooked you throughout, the constant chain of dopamine from getting 3 fates correct or even finding new information about one of the characters. The first 2-3 hours did feel a bit slow, but it is was a part of the story unfolding and was worth it. Also the chapter i liked the most was >!soldiers at sea!<, just how you can only get a glimpse from small rectangle windows or the viewing-hole(idk what to call it) after finding the body of >!zungi sathi!<and that whole chapter just keeps giving.

Also i need to talk about the character arcs of every character, almost no character feels ignored or unimportant, all the characters were well thought and well written. Every character's time on the ship feels like a story in itself that i want to know more about, how was their personal life and interactions before the incidents of the ship. MAN I JUST CAN'T STOP PRAISING THIS GAME!!!

Finally the music and sound effects were the chef's kiss, i cannot tell you how good the music hits at 3am watching a vignette of the whole ship getting attacked by spidercrabs

I don't think so i can think of a single think to complain about in this game, i would love to get recommendations for more such games!!
