My party, when Chondrus joined their crew, made an oath of peace with him. Both Chondrus and the party promised not to hurt each other, and Chondrus promised not to hurt their allies, until one day after the Oath of Peace ended. But Chondrus was tricky. He exploited the same loophole the deities use to attack each other.
Every few sessions or so, one of the crew of the Ultros would do something remarkably stupid. For example, Corinna opened a magical bag of storms Thylea gave the party to circumvent Sydon's weather nonsense. Versi and the party cleric ruined a deal the Vanished One made with Estor to become captain, purging the ghost from the VO and confining Estor to the cabin. This robbed the Ultros of some homebrewed power. Aesop became convinced that the lost dragons of the Dragonlords were confined to the Prison Cubes in the Nether Sea, leading the party to almost being eaten by a tarrasque.
At that point, Chondrus trapped the party in the Cube, and took the rest of the Ultros crew hostage when Lutheria rolled up. When the party got out and confronted him, Chondrus monologued about how he had planted ideas into people's heads that led to their poor decisions. He gloated that he had cost the party so much time, they would never reach Sydon before the Oath expired. Then he called in Lutheria, who politely gave the party the opportunity to surrender and change sides.
The party refused, of course, and fought. During the fight, Chondrus turned invisible and went around casting Sleep spells on people. When Lutheria finally fell, Chondrus broke down. He wept and raged and vowed to enact vengeance on the party, then raised his hands to attack them while they were vulnerable.
But the Furies on the ship didn't like that. They subdued Chondrus, read off his crimes, and dragged him off to the Isle of the Oathbreakers. And the party cleric, who was running a Prophecy build, managed to tell Chondrus she saw this coming before he got taken away.
A fun and fitting end for Fuckface Mcghee imho.
I‘m just reading the Oath of the Dragonlord subclass and it’s one page and I don’t see any channel divinity options. Am I crazy or does the subclass not have any special channel divinity options?
So my Players are at The Great Games and just finished Day 3, but had Opinions about Day 2 (The 1000 Ft Run). Everyone who participated was unable to pass the qualifying round, including the NPCs. They pointed out that Six Consecutive Checks/Saves which start at DC 15 (and the checks only increase each round) is simply ridiculous, especially since they gain up to 2 levels of exhaustion from failing the event, the only event to penalize in such a manner.
We all then had a good laugh at the fact that, going by the rules of the event, not even the competitors in the final match would’ve been able to make it (I ran through their qualifying rounds and all of them failed via exhaustion)
It’s now canon that either Goatlings or Kyrah changed the distance from 1000 ft (a fairly reasonable distance anyone can do easily) to 1,000,000 ft (almost 200 miles).
How did you handle it in your games? And are there any changes I should implement for the other Games?
Five years after finishing the Odyssey, I've decided to start a sequel campaign set several centuries after the Battle of Mytros, starring the descendants of the heroes who helped and replaced the Five at the end of the campaign.
Here's a small illustration to introduce the fourth, fifth and sixth members of the Ultronauts.
