Why did I even read the book now

Already watched the season 4 times since the release.
And I made the mistake of reading the book yesterday, and somehow I’m not able to relate the two.
I mean the show seems inspired definitely from the book, but somehow the characters seem off track from what’s depicted in the book.
And now I cannot look at the show in the same way and I feel betrayed.
Why am I even feeling so much for this show.

What to watch after Off campus?

I absolutely loved this show!! The first half of the first episode was a little bit cringe but thank God I kept watching lol.

Do you have any recommendations for series similar to Off campus? Like fake dating or also enemies to lovers kind of trope set in college/ high school.

Garrett’s passion for hockey

I just finished the show, i also read the book (ages ago) so i might have forgotten this but i really don’t remember Garrett being suspended from the team etc… the vibe they are giving is that Garrett will leave hockey forever yk (also given the conversation he had w/ Hannah in the early episodes, about hockey being his father’s thing)
so idk, i get that the showrunners chose to change some things but this one is such a big deal to me.
let me know what you guys think, also, as i already said, i might be simply misremembering the book ahahha

Disappointed but not surprised

Coming from someone who read off campus at an age she definitely was not supposed to be reading it lol. And now with the release of season one I’ve seen a lot of hype about the show which when I watched it very understandable.

But I remember when the cast first got announced and a lot of the fandom was horrible to the cast. Which I hope you all realize when it comes to casting theirs a budget, and can these actors well ACT!

But my main thing is the treatment of John Tucker. Many have given excuses about him not being red head but Allie is not at all how she was described in the books and honestly in my opinion one of the best actors in the show(which I can’t believe ALOT of you all were mad about HAIR).

Going back to Tucker I’m obviously not happy personally about the lack of black more specifically monoracial black women in not only this show but many current and upcoming prime adaptations. The off campus cast is basically white asf but Tucker being part black the fans have honestly been absolutely disappointing with their interactions with him. Edits, debriefs, reviews even the actual show accounts don’t promote him.

You’d think him being biracial will help but only a little and I’m still seeing so many comments about him not being a red hair, he’s too babygirl. He actually fits his book character pretty well based on personality! And the actor if you’ve seen him in PITT you know he can be a potentially good romantic lead when it’s time.

But to end this don’t be unintentionally bigoted. And especially intentionally! I have a lot of criticisms for the show, author and show runner, damn it even prime but for this one to be constantly thrown in my face when Tucker isn’t even my fave but I’m clearly seeing it, is just “Wow”.

But that’s it I’m excited for Allie and Dean’s(and thank god their changing the bad things about his character cause I feel people forget he was not the best in the books)

Happy Watching!!!

Edit: lol I knew this wanna gonna make people upset! Pm or whatever but that’s your own internal issues you have to deal with!

Edit 2: I also bring up this too knowing some black background actors in the series have also talked about casting and cause they are in other shows too have brought up how castings like this are becoming more and more common.

Dean and Bo, Off campus

Dean and Allie are a passionate and sweet couple, of course, but Beau is unlikely to be replaced by anyone, these bros are too cool when they are together

*spoilers for the mistake* a s2 cameo is staring us right in the face :)

This is when Grace gives Logan a list of tasks to complete - celebrity endorsement!

I mean there’s a pro hockey player named Shane who is the star new hotshot on the Boston Bruins who is dark-haired and the next Sidney Crosby… COME ON NOW… either Hudson or Connor or both would BREAK THE INTERNET for season 2

marverick & allie

istg this two love lore is driving me craaaazyy😭 ik they’re not the main main story but ughhhhhh them two just too pretty and too captivating to watch

Season 1 acting

Okay am I a super harsh critic or was the acting in the first season…bad? I really don’t want to be a hater but I’m struggling to finish the entire season. Part of it is definitely plot changes I find frustrating and the lack of buildup between H and G that made everything just feel anticlimactic and lacking depth. But a huge piece of it for me is def the acting.

Out of the main cast I think Mika did well and Antonio. Jalen wasn’t a focus in enough scenes for me to tell and Stephen I think did okay. I think Ella did okay too but my struggle with her was how young she came off especially paired with Belmont. Garrett was my biggest issue. The way he was portrayed on the show is not at all how I pictured in the books personality or energy wise. In the show he was so one dimensional and flat, often apathetic and lacking emotion. Some of that could be on the writers/show runner but I felt Belmont really struggled with line delivery at times and it just felt off, same with any emotional scenes. His facial expressions were so odd during the heavier scenes and took me out of it completely. Am I just way harsh or did anyone else feel this way? I see so much praise on Twitter and I’m like did we not watch the same thing…?

Love the books, show feels weird?

Anyone else feel like the show is kinda uncanny? Like, really unnatural flow of dialogue and scene sequences? It kinda feels like a hallmark show or Disney channel movie. This isn’t the first time I’ve felt this way with book adaptation shows. I think back to young adult romance shows from the 90s and aughts and modern shows aren’t capturing a sense of genuineness that those had. I loved the off campus books and think the actors are gorgeous and talented so I don’t think this has anything to do with how I’m feeling. I just can’t tell if it’s the screenwriting that’s the issue or the set design/lighting. But something always feels a smidge “off” even if still entertaining (this is not a hate post!!)

For those who have read the first book I feel like we didn’t get see everything from Hannah and Garrett love story

I feel like there’s still more to tell in our love story I mean I loved the first season. I feel like they left a lot of there love story out. But that’s just me. Am excited for season 2.

I have had a realization

On socials I have noticed a lot of new tv only fans referring to Logan as John. Which is of course totally normal because his name is in fact John. However, I haven’t seen anyone refer to Tucker as John, and that made me realize something…

Does no one call Tucker by his first name in the show, so show only fans may yet to realize his name is also John?!?

I am just about to finish my second rewatch and I think the closest I caught to anyone calling Tuck John is when he is on the phone with his mom and she calls him JT.

So question for show only fans. Did you know Tuckers name was also John?

Also this is entirely unserious just something I noticed. Partially because I would just love for someone to refer to Logan and Tucker just once as the John’s (I say that as a girl with common name. When I would hang out with friends who shared my name we would often get referred to like that lol)

WHO IS THIS ACTRESS????

Can someone tell me who this actress is or who she looks like????? She looks like one of the characters from a highschool based movie/show from the 2010 era where she plays a mean girl

Picture is from “Off Campus” when Hannah gives Garrett a photo at the diner post Thanksgiving meal w his family

Jules

i’m not a book reader so grain of salt and all that. i honestly didn’t mind jules initially, sure they were a bit annoying but i figured they were going for a precocious younger sibling thing.

but then the marshmallows… idk why but to me that seemed so mean even though i know it isn’t that deep. you see this man who is graciously cooking food for you and a bunch of other people and you just add to it because… you’re annoyed that you don’t get to do what you want for Thanksgiving???? and then they try to make it a cute full circle moment when everyone is at the ice rink but idk that whole bit pissed me tf OFF

i know it’s so dumb and such a silly plot point in the show but i’ve been seething about it since i watched it.

Heated rivalry

Yall keep comparing this to Heated Rivalry but honestly, it doesn’t even compare for me. Off Campus starts off feeling like a boring Netflix original with kinda cringe acting, and if you don’t have patience for that first episode, it might lose you. But somehow, you get completely pulled into it like you’re part of the story yourself. The plot actually develops and before you realize it, you’re fully hooked. I’ve never done such a huge 180 on a show before. It literally had me crying by the end.
What surprised me most was how early they got together, but I actually appreciated that so much because the story wasn’t just centered around “will they or won’t they.” The last two episodes really focused on their growth and character development, and it was done so well.
Heated Rivalry, on the other hand, felt like one conflict being dragged out all the way to the end, and then it wrapped up super rushed. The acting was genuinely amazing and it definitely had me emotionally invested too, but personally, I felt like the story dragged to the point where the sex became the main focus. I just wish there had been more wholesome and cute moments instead of so much emphasis on that.
Still a good show, but personally I liked Off Campus way more.

This show has made me so nostalgic

This show has brought back that 2000s romcom feeling. Besides rewatching the show (which I’ve already done) I’ve watched some of my favorite romcoms like 10 things I hate about you, John Tucker must die, how to lose a guy in 10 days, set it up, etc. anyone else feeling nostalgic?

Off Campus Series Fanfics - Where art thou?

Quick question long term book lovers, where are all the fanfics? These books were published back in 2015 and Ao3 only shows 85(?!) Fanfics. Where do you get your fixes?!! Tumblr is not exactly giving a lot to work with either?

Review

Just watched the series yesterday and it's fab. It's very tough for me to stay intersted in a series after 2-3 episode but this was too good to leave inbetween.

Excited for the next season

Absolutely recommended

10/10
