vintage baby names due for a comeback?

This post is inspired by someone on nameberry who just named their baby Beverly Barbara! I think the idea of a little Bev is so adorable and it reminded me of other old-fashioned names I have a soft spot for.

Lots of names that were popular in the past are already popular again - think Evelyn, Theodore, Clara - but where are the vintage gems that haven’t yet been revived? I’d love to hear your old-fashioned favorites, guilty pleasure names, or cool names of older relatives/people you know :)

I’ll start:
- Bernadette
- Geraldine
- Walter
- Ernest (little Ernie!)
- and of course, Beverly

Your turn!

Name of the day...Cassian!

The masculine name Cassian is most commonly pronounced as KASS-ee-uhn (emphasis on the first syllable). An alternative pronunciation, often heard in American English, is KASH-uhn (like the name Cash).

The name comes from the Latin term cassus (meaning "hollow," "empty," or "vain"). While the literal translation might seem stark, historically it carried prestige among noble Roman families, often reflecting a philosophical humility or a "blank slate" with boundless potential.

Some interpretations tie the name to Irish and Gaelic roots (meaning "cinnamon" or "curly-headed") or from the Latin word cassis (meaning "helmet" or "castle").

The name Cassian is over 1,700 years old!

Name of the day...Leland!

Leland is pronounced as LEE-lənd (phonetic spelling: "LEE-luhnd").

The name Leland is of English origin. It translates literally to "meadow land" or "untilled/fallow land".

The name is derived from the Old English words lea (meaning meadow, clearing, or pasture) and land (meaning a piece of ground). Originally an English surname, it referenced people who lived near open, uncultivated grasslands.

The name Leland is over 800 years old as a surname, originating as a Middle English locational name. It became popular as a first name in the late 19th century due to the Victorian-era trend of using traditional surnames as given names.
