Recently repaired my mom’s mechanical metronome after it had been broken for years, and now I’m kinda obsessed with them. They have curiosities
-They used to be very expensive. The mechanism had to be crafted by hand, owning one was something you’d see in super rich families or top universities. With computer design, you can now get one without breaking the bank
people use them as a form of relaxation. I get it. Watching and listening to that mechanically perfect tempo can get hypnotic.
They’ve become obsolete in musical practice thanks to electronic metronomes, but the relaxation of mechanical metronomes is sooo good
