📌 Megathread: Olive Young Global (USA) alternatives

Hi everyone!

With the launch of the new US based Olive Young site, we've seen a large number of posts from US shoppers who can no longer purchase certain products that were previously available through Olive Young Global, including many sunscreens, new releases, and other items.

To keep the subreddit organized and make it easier for everyone to find information, please use this thread to share your questions or experience about alternative retailers.

A few things that would be helpful to include:
• Your location (don’t give your full address please, just State would do or no location is ok too)
• Shipping speed and cost
• Product authenticity/reliability
• Overall experience

Please keep all Olive Young alternative discussions in this thread when possible so future shoppers can easily find the information in one place.

A word from moderators.

I'm honestly getting tired of seeing repeated accusations that the mod team is somehow removing posts that criticize Olive Young.

To be clear: We remove posts and comments for a reason - either they are advertisements, spam or misinformation.

The posts we removed were not removed because they criticized Olive Young. They were removed because they contained content from the Olive Young US Facebook group that was spreading misinformation and appeared to be a scam. We didn't just quietly remove those posts either, we left comments explaining the reason and even created a separate post to inform the community about the situation.

Since the Olive Young US debacle began, there have been numerous posts criticizing the company. How many of those have we removed? None. In fact, I have personally made posts criticizing the decision myself. I live in the US and, like many of you, I want the global store back!!

We're customers ourselves, not Olive Young employees. We have no reason to defend a multi million dollar company.

At the end of the day, all I can do is explain our actions and reasoning behind them. Whether you choose to believe that is up to you. But please stop spreading the narrative that criticism of Olive Young is being censored when the evidence in the subreddit clearly shows otherwise.

Clearance delay apparently my responsibility

Last package from OY in a clearance delay because it needs manufacturer IDs and OY tells me it’s my responsibility to submit? After telling me they were working on it for the past week? I’m so mad. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do? I’m at a loss

Edit: I spoke to fed ex and my shipment was just released. I called the general fed ex customer service number and they gave me the number of the agent dealing with my shipment. Called them and they confirmed that the info should come from OY and they said they even have a flag in their system that OY will provide the info not the recipient. They then checked and said they got the info from OY and there was nothing for me to provide. I am assuming that OY has template customer service email responses and I got sent the wrong one 🤷‍♀️

Transitioning from Olive Young (Soonsu Beauty?)

I’m not even gonna rant about the whole Olive Young USA. 💔 The products that I get on a regular schedule are all not available. Even on YesStyle and stylevana.

But I found them on Soonsubeauty.com . Even though the price is more than olive young global 🥲. Do anyone know if they are legit? In need of help and confirmation.

PSA: Please be cautious about the Olive Young US Facebook group

Hi everyone,

Just a heads up for anyone who may have come across the Olive Young US Facebook group.

The group does not appear to be an official Olive Young US channel, and at least one person who contacted them was reportedly asked to send money. It has high chances of being a scam and someone cosplaying as Olive Youg US. It is operated by the admin who runs the ‘Olive Young US’ page which also hasn’t been mentioned as an official channel by Olive Young.

Post - https://www.reddit.com/r/OliveYoungGlobal/s/sEzqO8XeLH

Until Olive Young US officially confirms that this Facebook group is a legitimate, authorized communication channel, please do not believe any claims, announcements, offers, or requests from the group.

Most importantly: DO NOT SEND THEM MONEY.

If Olive Young US announces the group as an official channel, we’ll let you know.

Call to Action 🌟

We, American consumers, are smarter than what Olive Young US is trying to fool us into. What we should do as a collective is purchase the products we were going to at Olive Young and purchase the same products from other direct competitors

A lot of us American consumers are big and small spenders at OY, and as a collective provide over a billion in revenue for OY global and their parent company: CJ Group. We have leverage as a collective

Everyone who has spent money at OY global knows what is happening right now is exploitation. The audacity that Olive Young and their parent company: CJ Group has to think that we are fools or dumb enough to spend our money for higher prices with less value is astounding. We are not fools. We are smart American consumers

What we will do is spend our money at direct competitors: YesStyle, Yami, Stylevanna, Amazon, Ulta, Sephora, Costco, Target, any other online retailer that carry Olive Young products

This will be easy, since many of us are already doing this anyways. We then screenshot our receipt and post it on their social media : TikTok or Instagram and email them directly showing we are already changing our spending habits

On these social media posts we will redirect everyone who looks at the post to the specific retailer we bought the products from and tag them and mention how the prices are more affordable at “said” retailer

If we all collectively do this they lose loyal customers and fail to gain and acquire new customers. American consumers are smart. Whether we are small or big spenders at Olive Young, we do not like being exploited and love a better deal

We will not be exploited, nor be made of fools.

We can do this. We can make Olive Young and their parent company: CJ Group realize in real time that they made a huge mistake and that we, American consumers, will not be made of fools. We will also make them realize in real time, American consumers love a good boycott when exploitation is involved

Good luck, everyone. We got this

Yami for the win lol

I’m not sure if this tab was there before , but Yami appears to now have an Olive Young tab, but also certain listings in general will say “Trending on Olive Young”

As a person who works in marketing, this is smart for them to do haha

The real reason cutting US customers off from OY Global is so offensive to all of us…

I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and here’s where I landed: through places like OY, we in the US have been able to access affordable, extremely high quality, and safe skincare and makeup—making beauty and self-care something attainable for average Americans—you know, people who work for a living and/or aren’t wealthy.

Outside of KBeauty, beauty and skincare in the US has historically been classist like fashion: there’s Walmart to Drugstore to Macy’s to Boutique to Rx/bespoke, and you’re relegated to what you can afford. But with places like OY we middle and working class Americans have been able to buy extremely high quality products on the cutting edge of innovation when our own government doesn’t care about us enough to approve a new sunscreen filter for 20 years or regulate pesticides.

Every single part of Americans’ life and well-being has been commoditized and sold, and we’re to the point that these companies literally try to get away with selling us the poorest quality goods at the highest prices and act indignant when we push back on that or call that out.

And then here comes OY—a place we’ve trusted for YEARS to make self-care accessible—hyping up their new US stores and this message of accessibility with their full chest, only to exploit us like every other company feels entitled to do in this country. They took away almost all of the high-quality products and brands, tripled and quadrupled their prices, and wiped all of our loyalty points clean while they cut us off from the global marketplace.

And the WORST part is that they seemed to think they could do all this and we’d still be their happy customers. This is how bought-and-sold we are here, that OY is literally surprised that the US opening has received the backlash it has. We deserve to have access to these products too; instead, once again, the price on quality goods is artificially pumped up to a place we can’t reach and an knock-off that is 1/8th of the quality is sold to us at 1/2 of the pumped-up price.

TL;DR: it’s because they’ve treated us, as consumers, the way our own country treats us, and they’re surprised that we’re upset about it.

OYG -> OY US thoughts/rant

I really hate the whole conversion from OY Global to OY US. As an avid OY shopper, the switch from global to US was so disappointing because the only reason I used to shop at OY was that prices were lower than those of its counterparts, like Sephora, the 1 + 1 deals, the quality of its products, the fact that you can't get the majority of them off Amazon or something, plus shipping was pretty ok for what it was worth. Ever since OY made a site dedicated to its US customers, I just don't feel like purchasing products from there because it's genuinely not worth it anymore (the site and the products are friggin mediocre). Now they carry so many Western brands, and some actual K-beauty brands raise the prices, and my reaction is "Why would I buy from Olive Young when I could just go to my local Sephora?" (as someone who does not live in Pasadena, where the new shop opened up). Not only that, but the whole ranking system is so messed up (like the pink, green, black, gold, except now it's like friend, green, gold). As a gold member, I only needed to spend around $600 per year to keep my status and have access to deals, while now I need to spend around $1200 per year because it's a half-year system. I get that a) they can't carry as many products from Korea, b) OY US is probably a subsidiary of OYG or OYK, and c) they carry western brands, but I really wish that we as customers didn't need to deactivate our global account from switching it to US, or as a matter of fact, not switch at all. I will always miss you, OYG.

i think i just got confirmation that we won’t be getting global back

so.. turns out global access more than likely isn’t possible alongside me ever giving OY my money ever again. yeah at this point i’m just gonna boycott (not that i actively need to because they won’t ever carry the products i bought from them here anyways 😍) and keep making noise.

still wish i could get an actual legal breakdown as to why we can’t shop on the global store anymore. if olive young and olive young US act as two separate entities, what does that have to do with us not being able to buy from the global site??? i just don’t understand. i can’t believe i’m begging a company to let THEM let ME literally GIVE THEM MY MONEY. i’m just at a loss, but one thing about me is that i am gonna hold a grudge so best believe that i’m still gonna be voicing my frustrations until we’re paid our dues, however long that takes. i think the main thing thats most important now is making sure that the newest customers of olive young know that what they’re being sold is a severely quartered version of the thing that literally everyone else around the worlds get—the deals, the value, the formulas, the product variety etc.

i don’t really post content on social media since i’m quite camera shy, but i’ve been debating on doing so now more than ever. every time i get yet another godforsaken influencer on my feed who was clearly paid to do promo (and no hate on them either ik they’re literally just doing their assigned job) it feels like another piece of rage bait and it feels like more comes out each day OY US gets more and more bad press from us. may or may not make a video. idk. i just love east asian but esp korean beauty so much, & things keep growing increasingly tumultuous in the states every day, my makeup and skincare are (sadly albeit) things that bring me & i imagine a lot of the people on here some relief or joy. idk if anything i’d say would do much. just am still very upset :’) i wish there was more that i could do.

Where is everyone buying Korean sunscreen in the US now?

I'm in LA and used to order sunscreens from Olive Young Global. After visiting the Olive Young store in Pasadena, I realized a lot of the products I was looking for weren't available.

One thing that's important to me is getting the actual Korean formulas. The US versions just haven't worked as well for me, especially when it comes to texture and finish.

I also care about shipping speed since I usually wait until I'm almost out before reordering.

For those of you in the US, where are you buying your Korean sunscreens and skincare these days?

Member Update Email

Alright, what is everyone thoughts on the email they just sent? Obviously this doesn’t help with the limited product selection and options for 1+1 sets but curious on everyone’s thoughts???
