How do you deal with this?

How do you deal with this?

Yesterday was a bit of a pig out day, but this is a common pattern for me;

  • I get blood sugar down, and omnipod keeps me at goal through the night.
  • I wake at 9A, and sugar immediately jumps, I assume this is my liver waking up.
  • At 11A, I'm going to eat a half bagel, which by the label is 25g carb + 4g (cream cheese) + 4g (SF coffee creamer) = 33g total. I lie to my controller, and tell it 45 g.
  • At 2P, 3 hours after eating and light housework, still 175 and now trending back up? I do another bolus with 0g carb, and it adds 1u to IOB
  • Finally, at 3P, I'm coming down to 157.

This pattern will repeat for lunch, then dinner - every day. I never get close to goal until middle of the night.

Though I'm 86% to 90% time in range, with 0% lows, my 90 day average glucose is 145 and GMI is 6.7%. Recent hgA1c matches this exactly. This is worse than when I was doing insulin injections.

Does this match your experience? How do you deal with this? Do you lie about how much carb you're taking in? That doesn't seem like the right way to be doing this. Do I need to lie harder?

omnipod searching for sensor

hi there. i’ve been on omnipod 5 with integrated dexcom g6 for about a year now and never had such frustration as i do now. i’ve had my sensor and pod in these exact positions before and never had the error. my controller will randomly say “searching for sensor”, then go into limited mode which leads to me going high and feeling defeated. today and yesterday has happened to me and i’ve been having an awesome time in range except for when it goes into limited mode and i sky rocket. then see a dexcom alert in my phone and check controller and it’s always bc it’s searching for sensor. the annoying thing is, as soon as i switch it to manual mode it fixes itself. does anyone know how to prevent this or if there’s a way to turn on an alert or anything for when it goes into limited mode?!? honestly love omnipod but biggest downfall is limited mode!!! (soz feeling so angry with high levels rn). i’ve attached a pic of where my sites are, i am aware that they need to be close on your body to each other to communicate. however i have had one on leg and the other on my arm and it’s never been this bad. thanks in advance guys:) hope i dont too silly :’))

Omnipod dash and Dexcom g7 diy loop

Hello I have been on omnipod dash and the g7 for almost a year now and no issues what so ever but as of this past 2 weeks I have been having loop completion failures, my pump pods don’t connect first time it says not in range, I even had it disconnect off my Bluetooth list, just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues

A1C 7.2 up from 6.6

My A1C for this quarter is up .6 from last. Dexcom showed 6.9 for both. I had lots of pod issues this past quarter and really want to blame Omnipod because so many failed. Is that reasonable?

⚠️ BELFAST⚠️

Hi there! Are there any omnipod 5 users in Belfast or surrounding areas?

I am on my last pod and fear it will run out before my order arrives on Monday/Tuesday. I had 3/4 fail on me during the week hence running out sooner than expected.

I would greatly appreciate if anyone had any spare pods I could borrow and replace in the next few days. Tia 😊

lump at cannula site after Omnipod removal 😵‍💫

hey! still fairly new to my Omnipod (coming up 2 months now) but this is the first I’ve noticed any sort of irritation/raised skin around the cannula site after removing my pump. it’s settling down a bit now (half an hour after removal) but was super swollen to the shape of the little cannula window 😅 I’m doubting it’s insulin pooling as I’ve not had any resistance or trouble at all with my insulin on this pump and I didn’t spot any leaks. is this a common issue to get on some more sensitive spots? this was on my stomach about a pod length away and up from my bellybutton if that helps 😬 it’s not particularly sore or itchy or anything, just made me a bit nervous to see!

Replacements?

I’m new to Omnipod and had a hazard alarm on a pod in the middle of the night that required me to replace it early. I requested a replacement online last month (6/19) and just checked the replacement status and this is what it said (so looks like either they haven’t checked it or denied it?). Is this long wait time normal? Should I call them? I also accidentally dropped a pod when putting it on and it landed sticky side to the floor so I was hoping to call them to get that pod replaced too.

Looking for advice on using the omnipod

Hey guys. I’ve been using the omnipod for a while now in Manuel model. TIR 60-75. Recently switched to automatic mode and now TIR is 50-95.

QUESTION - when in auto mode I always seem to go low when eat. I’ll bolus for 40 carbs and I drop, whereas when I was in Manuel mode my ratio for 40g carbs works…

I feel likes it’s giving me heaps more basal and my usual ratio now makes me crash at meal times.

Regardless I want to making it work with auto mode, does anyone have experience with it, I don’t exactly know how it works!

so any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks! 😘

Every change of pod at least 1/2 pods don't work

I don't know what to do anymore, with omnipod every change now ALMOST ALWAYS one or two pods don't work and they send me very high blood sugar. I know it's the pod and not the algorithm because it always starts to squirt by itself since I change the pod. Then, I finally find one that works and the blood sugar returns to normal, but in the meantime I've been in hyperglycaemia for half a day. I put cream for lipodystrophies, I rotate the sites, I don't know what else to do. Before it happened to me every tot (like every two weeks) randomly, sending me to over 400 after numerous corrections. adessp really happens every three days, I change it immediately as soon as I see the abnormal increase, but anyway in the meantime it goes high. It can't be that I have lipodystrophy right everywhere... then it happened even after putting it on my belly, an area that I never use. Is this happening to anyone else? I really don't know what to do, sometimes I've been forced to go into manual mode and get an injection to lower it

Omnipod 5 settings with 3 year old

Disclaimer: we are meeting with her endocrinologist on Monday, and I understand everyone is different.

I am curious to know what Omnipod settings have been successful with younger kids and managing diabetes. My daughter is three and has been a diabetic for over 1 year, but we are struggling more than ever with preventing highs and bringing her back into range without her plummeting. We are finding it hard to pre-bolus her before meals and snacks. Any help with settings/tips/tricks is greatly appreciated!

Pump Training

Hi all! I recently decided to try out Omnipod 5 and have been anxiously awaiting my local Omnipod nurse to call to schedule training. Our local rep reached out as soon as I was prescribed Omnipod, which gave me hope that it would be a speed process, but it’s been 2.5 weeks and I’ve yet to hear from the trainer. Is this normal? I’m a bit annoyed because I keep thinking I’m wearing my last Mobi site, but alas here we are at site change day again…

According to the rep, the trainer had reached out to my Dr. and received my settings and should be reaching out soon. But I’ve yet to hear anything. Could I train myself? I set up my tandem pumps with no issue.

Market research - not selling!

Do you currently use any type of Omnipod cover or sticker? (NOT an overwrap or overpatch for better adhesion.)

If yes, what do you like or dislike about what’s currently available?

If no, why not?

Do you think the market already has enough options of stickers, wraps, etc. used to decorate pods?

What designs or features do you wish existed?

Would you prefer something decorative, protective, or both?

Is there anything that would make you say, “I’d actually buy that”?

My reasoning for asking: I have been a T1D for 20+ years. I’ve used pods for about half that time. I saw someone decorate a pod for July 4th and had a cool idea to create pod wraps/reusable covers. This would not be anything adhesive, would not affect adhesion, would not “improve” the functionality. It simply would be decorative. Now, maybe there could be a slight padding of some sort to protect from painful bumps, but that’s it. Is this something you’d use? Be totally honest, please!

T1: Just started Omnipod 5 today

I've always injected insulin being diagnosed T1 in 1998.y provider convinced me to start using a pump saying it would be much easier than injections , even though my last A1C was 5.9.

I started today on the Omnipod 5 after getting the training but I've have nothing to eat since and my glucose continues to rise. It says it's giving me auto corrections but the glucose is going up and up. I started to come down earlier but got to about 215 and then started to go up again, and I'm now at 305!

I don't know what to do. I'm tempted to just start injecting again as I just don't trust this device. The stress of not injecting and having to trust it also isn't helping! I'm just not sure it's for me. Is this normal?

Transition Symptoms

I’ve just started an Omnipod 5. Is it normal to feel a bit more tired and slightly dizzy over the first couple of days?

I have gone from 40%time in range to 78% over 2 days.

Omnipod at Disney World

I will be going to Disney World in August. I use a Dexcom G7 on my arm, and I rotate my Omnipod between my stomach and lower back.

I'm wondering if anyone has had issues with ride restraints at the Disney parks when wearing an Omnipod on their stomach or back. Have any rides put too much pressure on the pod or caused it to come off?

Also, does anyone bring a spare Omnipod and an insulin vial into the parks? If so, did you leave them at First Aid or carry them with you? If you carried them, what did you use to keep the insulin cool throughout the day?

Thank you for any advice, recommendations and info.

Airport security UK/EU

Hey guys I’ve just recently started omnipod with dexcom 7 (previously freestyle Libre). The trainer said it’s not advised to go through airport security full body scanners. I have really bad travel anxiety and hate the thought of causing a fuss - especially in a different country. I don’t want to mess around getting letters out I just want it to be easy. I’ve also read online that you CAN go through full body scanners.

I’ve always been through with my Libre.

I’m looking for advice from people who still go through the full scanners and their omnipod has been fine?

Thanks!

Is canula leaking?

Hello yesterday was my first day using Omnipod, today I did 10 units of bolus for food like two hours ago and now I’m 302 and rising, is it possible that Omnipod is not working?

Pods stickiness issues.

Okay, so i am type 2, and just had a baby 4 weeks ago roughly. Since kiddo, I have been using my pods that were sent as replacement pods for the recalled pods. The last week or two I have gone through almost a pod a day, they just keep falling right off. Stomach, leg and arm. I am so pist today I went through 3 pods and now I am like screw it. I am not gonna put another on just to have it fall off in my sleep. Is anyone else having issues with the adhesive. This has never been a problem in the past for me. I have ran into doorways, pallets at work and it was never a rip off, or falling off pod issue until about a month ago when omnipod sent me 3 boxes of replacement pods. I ordered over patches and dont plan to put a pod on until I get them in a few days. I have some old syringes, so i plan to just give myself shots for any excess carbs.

Omnipods leaking and not connecting issue. Hba1c 8.1

My 15 year old is looping with an omnipod dash. It’s been 2 years and her a1c has crept up to 8.1, whichI s the worst since she was diagnosed 6 years ago. She is diligent in pre blousing, her carb ratios seem to be okay and basal seems fine. But we’re finding that almost every pod stops working after around 32 hours and there are issues with leaking. She usually spends the next 12 or so hours high after we change it and I think this contributing to her bad a1c. It’s like we see a gradual rise and then change it too late. But they shouldn’t be disintegrating this quickly. We’ve tried tegaderm for the tunnelling and this works to a point but only for 24 hours or so. We also have a lot of connectivity issues. I’m at a loss. Her a1c is getting worse but her mental is so much better in the omnipod compared to the t-slim. I’m not sure whether to gently suggest that another pump might be better.
