Newb with some questions (Cargo)

Hi everyone. I have been riding my cargo for three weeks now, dropping my 9 month old off to childcare and collecting him. We stick to fields and paths and it takes about 15 mins each way. Hopefully we can move to longer rides in time.

Questions:

1 - is there a loop available to round off the front of the rack to help make it safer?

2 - What is the best centre stand option?

  1. What tyres are you guys running if you have some rough areas as well as smooth tarmac to cover?

  2. what rear rack are you running?

  3. Any tips to sharpen up the LX Shimano hydraulic discs?

Thanks : )

Bag for behind the kid seat

Just incase others haven’t thought of this, I run a Dark Realm 139 bag behind my kid seat on my cargo. Fits perfectly and gives me a spot to chuck the odd and ends (but it’s massive and fits more than enough for a day out). you carry around all the time and come on and off in seconds. I use the Pel Mel loops to attach it but you could loop it around the rack.

Omnium and gearing or do i need granny gears

Before i got my Omnium i spent a lot of time trying to figure out if i need a battery or need granny gears.

I finally went with the standard Shimano SLX 11-40T at the back but swapped the 42t to a 38t at the front.

This ride was with a infant + cargo.

I used all of the gears and did not have to get off the bike. You will sweat but its doable with this setup.

Hope this helps someone who was wondering how the gears are.

V3omnium

After owning already a few cargo bikes for work,, whether if it was messenger work or just for transporting my toolboxes… I have to recognize that this last omnium cargo v3 is the stronger and most polyvalent one. I feel I have to give them this. . And I’m not talking about the loading capacity or there endurance of other wonderful cargo bikes. But this one is the one where I have found the best balance between all the requirements that someone who owns cargo bike is looking for.. but the most important for sure it is that no matter what I load in this bike is or what I am loading, I know that it’s gonna be super reliable and I can ride super safe and fast and it really feels like riding a normal bike. That’s probably the most amazing aspect on this one. That it really feels like a normal bike, no matter how much you load her, it is still feels like a good steel frame normal bike. Let’s see the summer when we start traveling with her, as I’ve been doing with my Surly long-haul trucker. But I have the feeling that it’s gonna behave really really good like my old bike has been done for many years.

Shorter (Under 100mm) Dropper Post?

Hello. Does anyone know if there is such thing as a shorter dropper post than 100mm? I’m 183cm and have a large framed Omnium (pictured). I tried to put a normal dropper on it and the seat was just waaay too high. I want one just to help me with getting on the bike when I have heavier loads on the front.

MiniMax on a Polish PKP ED250 high-speed train

Size M. It fits, but barely. I doubt a size L or XL will.. Was no problem by the train staff.

Pel Mel Workshop

Anyone know if they are still active, and if so, has an email for them? Only social media I use is here, and I used a friends account to check IG and saw the last post was 50+ weeks ago.

Thanks for any info, and if anyone has any other recommendations like the d ring straps, please say so!

star-nut mod

This is a super secure way to mount a mirror, lights etc to your Omnium. I'm using any star-nut and a PNW mirror. The hardware from the mirror is the same thread pitch as the star nut.

I could see this being really handy to mounting different things. Just don't do it on the front if you ever want to use your extender bar again.

Putting my Omnium on a diet before I do mine

Hey everyone,

At first I wanted to put a motor on my Omnium, but I eventually changed my mind. Instead, I decided to make it lighter and customize it a bit more to my taste.

The idea is to give myself some motivation to lose weight, get back in shape, and actually enjoy going out riding again.

I ride a stock Omnium Cargo V3 with the dropper seatpost and dynamo hub, which makes the bike relatively heavy.

So I started removing things I didn’t really need anymore. First was the child seat mount, now that my son is old enough, i also remove the tenders. Then I swapped the dropper post for a Thomson seatpost.
I didn’t really save weight there, but I also changed the saddle for a Brompton Swallow. I had an old TUNE handlebar lying around, so I installed it, and a cheap second hand TUNE stem should arrive soon.

I also changed the tires to a GravelKing SS+ 45mm in the rear and a Panaracer HP406 up front.

Honestly, the bike already feels completely different.
I didn’t realize how stiff a carbon bar could feel.

There are still a few things left to do, like finding a lighter crankset. After that, maybe it’ll be time to think about changing the wheel rims… or maybe even the whole wheelset.

If you guys have any ideas to make the bike lighter without spending thousands, I’m all ears.

Especially when it comes to the wheels.

(And yes, I know… the green grips have to go.)

Size Help!

Finally decided to retire my Mini and upgrade to the cargo for some urgently needed space.

Currently I'm riding a Mini v3 in Size L. I`m 188cm tall and an inseam of 89cm. Finally found a Cargo in my price range and in the area (basically every other bike is a 500-1200km drive). Only downside is that its a size M. Any chance I could pull this off? Was thinking long stem + seatpost with large setback.

Omnium Mudgards squeezed in

I bought a used Omnium from 2023, seems to be one of the last V2 Wifi without the V3 dropouts.

Today I switched the installed Mudguars because they have been damaged by the previous owner.

On the front wheel I recognized that the mudguard is quiete squeezed in the fork. That much that it damaged the paintjob and a little bit of rust evolved (eventually more from the guards than from the frame).

The new "official" V3 mudguards are more on the plastic side, but they are also quiete jammed in there. Is this normal? I tryed to fix the framedamage with some paint and think about applying some protective adhesive.

55mm tires fit, even with some room. I think Wifi is confirmed.
