New NA5C owner here! Seeing complaints about magnetic covers ruining devices...I have the licensed BOOX magnetic cover. Should I be worried?

Title. I recently bought the Note Air5 C. Aside from a recent firmware update that borked things for a moment, my device has been great. I purchased the folding magnetic cover with my NA5C and have been using it without issue, but I've seen multiple complaints on here that magnetic covers can interfere with the pen, even resulting in totally bricked devices. Should I be worried? Do I need to get a different cover? I'll just return the whole thing if a licensed accessory is suspected to cause failures. Thanks for your help!

Change the launcher on Note Max to the same as Go 10.3

Hey all, is it possible to change the launcher on the Note Max to the same as Go 10.3?

Basically, where you can see the notes, library, settings as the main divisions of the Home Screen? As opposed to the more full android tablet screen.

Thanks !

When are the reviews for the Poke 7 coming out?

Really interested in this. I know right now they launched in China only. Will we see videos/reviews any time soon? Any idea when the international release will be?

Setup guide for Onyx Boox Go 6

Hi all

Just bought a Go 6 and I'm already loving it. It's my first ereader so bear with me.
I'm from Denmark so bought the Go 6 mainly so I could use our library app on it. I've been reading along here for a while and someone mentions all the bloatware on the Onyx.

I want to customise and delete all unnecessary things from the tablet, so it basically only has the Play Store and then the library app.

Is there a guide in here for setting a new Boox up in the best way that I'm not aware of? 😄

Thank you all in advance!

WARNING: Do NOT Buy Onyx BOOX. $500 Note Air5 C turned into a DEAD BRICK in less than a month, and support has completely GHOSTED me.

Hey everyone,

I am writing this post to share my absolutely abysmal experience with Onyx BOOX's terrible product quality and their completely irresponsible customer service. If you are planning to spend $500+ on their devices, please read my story and think twice.

I bought the BOOX Note Air5 C for $503.50 USD. It was delivered on April 20. In less than a month, this expensive device has completely broken down, and their customer support has gone completely radio silent after giving me a massive runaround.
Here is the exact timeline of how they treat a cooperative customer:

  • April 20: Received the brand new device.
  • May 4 (Just 14 days later): A major hardware defect appeared. When writing on the top right corner of the screen, the actual ink had a massive 0.5 - 0.7 cm offset from the pen tip. It completely ruined the writing experience. I immediately sent a video proof to support. Agent Daej replied saying it was forwarded to the tech team.
  • May 9: The device collapsed further. The physical volume button got completely stuck/broken, which locked up the system and prevented me from entering my lock screen password. Agent Zac told me to remove my magnetic case to troubleshoot. As a reasonable customer, I did exactly as told, managed to temporarily bypass it, and thoroughly answered all of their follow-up questions.
  • The Ghosting Begins: Right after I fully cooperated and gave them all the answers, they completely stopped replying. No follow-up, no solution, just left me stranded.
  • May 10 - May 13: Because they went completely silent, I had to repeatedly chase them. Instead of giving me a real answer, they kept switching agents (Paula on May 10, Isaac on May 13) just to copy-paste the same generic BS: "Our relevant team is looking into this... please allow us more time to check."
  • May 16: The hardware completely gave up. The device is now completely dead and no longer powering on at all. Their support even acknowledged this fact in the email. Out of patience, I gave them a final ultimatum: provide a prepaid return label by Monday, or I will expose this on social media.
  • May 18 - May 20 (Today, Wednesday): Total radio silence. Over the past few days, I contacted their website live chat 3 separate times. Human chat agents repeatedly promised and guaranteed that my issue would be resolved within 24 hours. I also submitted 3 different tickets.
  • Result: Absolutely NOTHING. They have completely ghosted me.

Why I am absolutely furious:
I did not cause any physical damage to this device. I paid over $500 for a premium e-reader that didn't even last a month. I was an extremely patient and cooperative customer—I followed their troubleshooting steps, removed my case, and answered every single question promptly. My reward for being a cooperative consumer? Being ignored, lied to by live chat agents, and left with a $500 paperweight.

Onyx BOOX Support / Public Relations: If your team is reading this, I demand a prepaid return label and a FULL REFUND immediately. My original ticket request number is still sitting in your inbox unanswered.

To everyone else in this community: Save your hard-earned money. Their quality control is a joke, and their customer support is an absolute black hole.

Size comparison of my 13.3-inch Boox Tab X C, my largest e-reader, with that of my 4.3-inch Xteink X4, my smallest e-reader. 😊

Advantage of the X C: It’s so big! 😍 Disadvantage of the X C: It’s so big! 😔

Advantage of the X4: It’s so small! 😍 Disadvantage of the X4: It’s so small! 😔

Together, they complement each other’s pros and cons! 😉

Considering Note Air5 C but unsure about dimness

The main reason I want to get an e ink tablet is to reduce digital eye strain.

This model is my current top candidate; it’s in colour and scrolls much smoother than most e ink tablets.

For these reasons, I intend to use it for things I would otherwise do on a device (ie, browse the web, check emails, etc), just without the eye strain from a glowing screen.

However, I’ve seen a lot of people say this model is especially dim and needs to be used with a front light.

Does using a front light cause eye strain comparable to a normal screen?

If so, will using such a dim model without a front light also cause eye strain?

Would the Go 10.3 Gen II Lumi be a better candidate? Does it also have the smooth scrolling?

Thanks!

How to use 8bitdo zero with Boox Go 7 Color ii?

Hi all! Bought myself an 8bitdo zero as I wanted to have a remote page turner for Koreader and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it work.

I’ve already updated the firmware, connected as a keyboard, tried remapping in “key mapper” and am having no joy ☹️

Can anybody who’s successfully managed it help me out? I’d be very grateful!

AI Paper vs Boox 10.3 Lumi

I need someone's help, who has used these two devices. I'm stuck between the viwood's and the boox. The boox had the front light but the viwood's has been really calling to me with it's beautiful 1300 display. It just doesn't have a front light and the software on the boox is more refined from what I can tell.

I've had boox devices before also, so I'm familiar with their ecosystem...

But I want someone's take who's had both of these devices. I need some insight. What feels better for writing/reading. I'd be doing a lot of both of those.

Best onyx for fixed size large textbooks pdfs?

I have to read some college textbooks but tired of looking at my monitor and the printer books are really thick. I have a Kindle paperwhite but the text on pdfs are obviously too small and blurry. Colour would be nice too for diagrams. Mostly read on the train bus maybe sometimes on desk and bed.

There's so much options please help me choose. I really want to avoid buying a reader and it turns out too hard to read small text or blurry diagrams

Any leads on used Nova Air 2?

Boox 4.2 on older devices

Does anyone know what the oldest device so far to get 4.2 is? Feedback told me my device is slated to get it, but didn't give a timeline, and I'm anxiously awaiting a calender that I can actually use and vertical scrolling. The vertical scrolling while it sounds trivial is something I am really looking forward to a lot.

Is this normal ghosting on my barely 2 years old Tab Mini C or is it going downhill already?

Well, my mini C was pretty okay till recently, when ghosting got worse. I've seen some posts complaining about this specially on Mini C and Tab ultra (mine's got that TCONB thing ive seen some people talking about).

I'm kinda wondering if im just overreacting or is it a bit too much and starting to go downhill like the other devices on here (it disappears with full refresh but is back as soon as we change apps or pages)

Firmware 3.5.4 (it says 09/2024 here so i think its 3.5.4) and not really planning on update since ive seen some people complaining theirs got even worse after the updates

Terrible ghosting on Go 10.3 Lumi 4.2

Am I the only one with terrible ghosting ?

After every page change, the ghosting is very visible. For example, just going into the system update page from the library I can still see my library. But this is every time I change to any page.

I’ve not heard anyone talk about this so I’m just wondering. Is this something that demands a return?

Thinking about getting a Go 7...

... but am nowhere near where I can access service/repairs and have seen reports about unreliable hardware, fragile devices, faults, etc. (A friend coming from the US can bring me one.)

Also, my Kindle Paperwhite still works perfectly well.

I'm curious about Boox because I use Readwise *a lot*.

Is Go 7 worth my time and money (and the risk)?

Also, is paying extra for the stylus worth it?

Using Claude on Boox?

Has anyone had experience of actively using Claude (or other AIs) on a boox tablet?

Background: I’m thinking of buying a Go 10.3 gen II for note taking - but also use Claude for various tasks. I know the Claude app is available but wondering what real life use is like….

For example: with long answers that Claude can give, is constant scrolling hard work given refresh rates? And do you really need a Bluetooth keyboard rather than rely on the on screen keyboard?

Interested in getting a BOOX after seeing Xtienk, because I wanted the note-taking features. I'm worried about portability, though.

In my pocket, I already have a Samsung Galaxy S21 with a wallet phone case cover, and in my other pocket are keys, Vaseline, and a silk handkerchief for my glasses.

I do not know if I can really put a second device in my pockets without feeling over-encumbered, and it is preferred that it stays just in my pockets. I don't want to carry a separate side bag for this.

Any solutions?

I tested, Ugee 311A pen works on Palma 2 Pro

I bought a Ugee 311A for my TCL Nxtpaper 60 Ultra but unfortunately it's not the pen for it. I ended up buying a Palma 2 Pro, I'm surprised the pen works on it flawless!

It's about half price of the official pen. Good to have a cheaper alternative!

Edit: typo

Comparing screen brightness at 0%, 50% and 100% in a room with normal lighting, there is almost no visible difference between 0% and 50% brightness in broad daylight. You can completely turn off front light when reading in the afternoon.

you can completely turn off the front light when reading in the afternoon and if you also disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, Boox Note Air 5C can last up to 2 weeks on a single charge.
