VIDEO - Natural or Synthetic?

I previously posted this bracelet and got mostly responses suggesting the opals may be synthetic. I’ve now recorded a clearer, closer video under better lighting to provide a more accurate view of the stones.

Need confirmation if it's real or not

My boyfriend gave me a promise ring a few months ago from the oakland flea market from one of the jewelry vendors that we picked out together. The lady that sold it to him said it was real opal and silver and was bought it for $36 dollars. I absolutely love the design because it looks like the pagan triple moon goddess symbol and was so unique looking than all the others.

I just wanted to know if it was actually synthetic because I've been seeing many posts here comparing both the real thing and fake.

I will still be completely in love with it even if it is. These were the cleanest pics I could get at the moment

My mom’s opal ring

My mom gifted me her beautiful opal ring. She purchased it from a jeweler in the 80’s and we assumed it was real opal. After seeing some posts here I’m not sure if this is a natural opal. There is a 14k stamp on the inside. Either way, I love the ring but super curious if anyone can provide insight. Thank you!

Real opal?

Just bought today. IT was sold like real one. Silver ring. The bottom of the Stone shiny like on the other side.

Is this a safe place?

I need to store my 1ct natural Australian coober pedy opal until I can have it mounted. Is this a safe spot? It's a cushiony velvet piece in a little tiny box that I also have stored inside my main jewelry box. It should be relatively dry and dark. Just unsure if it touching the window of the tiny box could be an issue?

Australian black opal verification needed

These are claimed as lightning ridge opal but I just wanted to make sure they aren't Ethiopian before buying. I think they look solid (not doublet) based on the dome?

Koroit split 😎

Just this beautiful koroit nut with a nice little gem in it. This will likely cut a beautiful pair of matching pendants for me ♥️😁🫶

Can I share my opal collection here? 😍

Love opals, just found this sub! Most were acquired in the 80 and 90s. Bottom one estate piece, not sure age, rubies glowing in UV light! Top one lab from 30 years ago, for comparison. EDIT: Fyi, being told bottom one stones are synthetic. THANKS for the award Joan and Lanky!!

Follow up with my opal & UV light

I just recently purchased a uv light to check out all my rocks and jewelry! Still learning. Here are a few of my pieces I was wondering about. Most people from my last post say the opal is synthetic, I am thinking so now too, will take it to a jeweler to verify and let u know. Thanks for all the help in prior post! Any other info appreciated.

Custom ring question

I am designing a new setting for this opal. My question is, since I am spending over 1.5k, should I keep this opal which is ethiopian or buy a new Australian opal. I paid 200 for the one in the video. I really love the opal but I'm worried about yellowing over time. My other thought was I could go with this stone and if something happens in the future I could replace it with an Australian. Let me know your thoughts.

Opinion on quality of opal based on one poor quality photo?

This ring is 10 karat gold with an Opal and possibly Garnet but it's all so possible those are rubies. It's put on sale for about $400 and I would need to to get it resized. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell whether this is at all a worthy opal or if it's just obviously one of the poor quality ones or if it's just impossible to tell with this one low quality photos? Thanks So much from somebody who's trying to understand more about gemstones and jewelry and where my money would be well invested. By the way, yes, I do know that opal is not good for everyday wear, this would not be a.m. everyday wear ring. Thank you for your comment!!

Bought this Ethiopian opal sterling ring for $36 today

And I’m thinking I did awful well for the price. I’m hoping you all can confirm (or refute) that this is quite a nice stone. My husband is very skeptical and asked for your opinion. This is a whole opal, not a doublet or triplet. Thank you!

Can anyone tell me what kind of opal this is?

Hi I’ve messaged the jewelers who made and sold this ring as I’m absolutely in love with it and it’s my wedding ring the problem is I’ve forgotten completely what the stone is! A few other subreddits have said it’s an opal specifically a black opal. It was such a fun and hectic day when we bought it I forgot to snag a picture. I’ve messaged them and just awaiting a response but I’d love to see what you guys think it is! (Pictures in the comments)
