Hey yall,
I just found out about this sub recently and figured I'd take the plunge.
A little about me, I'm a veteran (late 20s M) who just got out of the service recently, and I'm working to get back into the civilian world. Since getting out, my social life basically took a dump, and I'm looking for a community / hobby group to get involved in. I'm not the most social person at first, but when I get going, I'm pretty social.
A good chunk of my hobbies is mostly introverted / indoor related, and I want to get into something that'll get me out of the house. Here's a list of some of my hobbies so you can get an idea:
I'm also open to learning / getting into new hobbies as well :)
Also not to get political (hopefully this doesn't break the rules), but I'm Christian and conservative leaning. So any groups that are a little friendly or at least tolerate my beliefs would be preferrable (I put this here because I had some instances where people actually had a problem with this).
If any of yall have suggestions, that would very much be appreciated.
Hoping y'all can help with some ideas for location.
My son is turning 2 and is obsessed with airplanes. Naturally, we're planning to throw an airplane-themed birthday party for him. I'm wondering if there are any open spaces (preferably grassy, picnic areas or public parks) that are close to or within the flight path of an airport (JWA or LAX)
Much appreciate any ideas or leads to look into. Thanks in advance!
James Benjamin Gosnell Jr of Charleston (former Magistrate) has pleaded guilty for possessing CSAM. In summer 2025, agents with Homeland security investigated a CyberTip from Paypal that showed payments made from Paypal accounts belonging to Gosnell to a known CSAM vendor. During the execution of the search warrant, Gosnell confessed to possessing CSAM and gave agents a flash drive. Gosnell faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 5 years and a max penalty of 40 years in federal prison.
Urgent! All the dogs in this video have been CLEARED for euthanasia at the Downey Animal Care Center located in Southern California - starting TOMORROW! The easiest and best way we can do that is by liking, commenting, & sharing this video to our stories! You can also download it and post it to your local Nextdoor Accounts, Facebook, Reddit etc. - if you're watching this and have been considering adopting a dog, NOW is the time. ive been trying to look for any ledge jumping spots in orange county. im looking for ones that arent too tall
Hi fellow Orange County inhabitants,
I’m making this post on behalf of my wife. TLDR; she’s desperate for new friends/activities, but struggles to find new people to meet. Well, other women specifically. Feel free to read on if you’d like…
To put it into more perspective; we recently had our first child and he is now a little over 4 months old. Other women with children might understand/remember, but her hormones have crashed and it’s affecting her. Not to mention, our sweet innocent child is extremely difficult, so we’re constantly stressed out and fried from tending to him. And unfortunately, even if I’m on full dad duty, there’s nowhere in our house she can escape to, to get a break. His fussiness and cries can be heard the next town over.
She also works from home, so between working from home, taking care of the baby at home, and having no friends to hang out with, she is feeling alone as far as friendship is concerned.
I’ll be honest, she does have a couple friends. The issue is they never get to hang out because “life”. So that’s why I’m here.
I’m heart broken watching her feel stuck at home and feel lonely as far as friendship is concerned.
So this huge novel simply to ask if anybody has any recommendations for meet ups or places/things to do where she can make some new friends? She’s tried a couple meet ups, but the two she’s been to ended up being duds with low turnout and vastly different personalities.
For reference, she’s in her early 30s, loves hiking, baking, puzzles, and golf. But she’s also very open to new stuff. So any suggestions would be extremely appreciated.
Also, before anybody comes for me, I do not neglect her and we raise our baby together. We’re very happy as a couple. She just misses having friends she can reach out to and hang out with, and I also want her to have friends she can go do stuff with to get out of the house when she’s feeling cabin fever or needs a break from being a wonderful mom.
Anyone been to Black Star Canyon? Especially at night? Might wanna watch the meteor shower there next week. How accessible is it? I have an AWD car but probably dont wanna go on a crazy hike in the dark.
