Women of Orillia!

Hey girls, a few months ago I posted about making a local girl’s group and we’ve got one started called the Broad Squad. We’ve been meeting about once a month and have done games at Cards and Coasters, trivia at a couple different places (we won once!) and most recently we’re planning to go roller skating at The Roller Skating Place sometime this month. We also have a book club started through the group that tries to meet about once a month!

If you’re interested in joining, you can find us on Facebook at

35F looking for chill local gal pals in Muskoka/Barrie/Orillia area

This feels mildly vulnerable to post, but here we are :)

I’m turning 35(F), not originally from the area, and realizing I’d really love to make some genuine female friendships around Muskoka/Barrie/Orillia-ish. I'm in Muskoka, but visit surrounding areas often.

I'm pretty low-key and easygoing. I love hanging by the water with snacks, games, crafts or books, going for walks/hikes, window shopping, exploring cute little areas/towns, attempting pickleball badly, learning golf very slowly, or rotting on the couch binge-watching something with snacks and weed. Recently also started exploring taking classes in sewing, painting, etc. I can yap, but also love to listen. I'm told I'm funny and so much myself that's its easy for others to be themselves too.

To be clear, I’m genuinely just looking for platonic female friendships/gal pals. Not dating, not anything weird lol.

Bonus points if you’re also in your “I want bestie girlfriends but it's hard and scary” era, and consider a walk, coffee, and sitting by water a full itinerary.

If this sounds like your vibe, message me queen!!

Why is it so hard to meet people here that aren’t coworkers or neighbours?

Moved here a while back and still figuring out how to actually meet people outside of work.

Not looking for dating apps or Facebook groups that die in a week. Just wondering if anyone else finds it genuinely hard to build a social life here as an adult.
What’s worked for you (if anything)?

Vets and prescription fees?

I'm wondering how much your vet charges if you want a prescription filled at an outside pharmacy?

Celebratory dinner spot

Looking for a recomendation for a spot for a mid week celebratory dinner in Orillia or close surrounding area. Quiet and intimate would be top goals other than great food obviously, but also special and memorable.

No buses tomorrow??

Hey folks, I hope you're enjoying your weekend. I just wanted to ask if there will be no bus service tomorrow, because I am working tonight and need to take a bus home in the morning. If the bus isn't running, I'll have to take an Uber.

Anyway, have a good night

Family doctors accepting patients in the Orillia/Barrie area?

Looking for a doctor in the orillia or barrie area (I live in oro). My current doctor is in Mississauga and its just not doable to go down there all the time. I need a doctor who would actually take my medical concerns seriously, as I have a rare birth defect that has been left largely untreated by previous doctors.

Preferably a female doctor if possible but at this point I'll take anything

We cleaned the salt and debris up from the Rec Centre yesterday. Just wanted to share as I'm grateful I get to work locally.

Hey all,

Just wanted to post some pics of cleaning up the Rec Centre yesterday. We did a hot pressure wash to get rid of all the salt build up from the entrance, and removed any chewing gum litter and debris. Leftover salt will destroy anything it's on, so it is important to make sure it's all removed each spring. You don't need a lot of pressure, just plenty of heat and flow and the salt will dissolve.

It was a nice to get to do a local job, at a building which I visit regularly, getting to enjoy the fruits of my own labour. I do notice when buildings are dirty unfortunately.

I brought my powerwashing surface head robots out. A 'surface head' is an enclosure with a bar with a couple nozzles on it that spins really quickly and allows you to clean large flat areas evenly. Its like mowing the sidewalk.

I have 2 surface head robots. One is fully autonomous, so drives itself, which I was planning on using, but unfortunately I couldn't get my phone to connect to it. I was going to make a little video of me napping in the chair while its working away. Luckily have the other which is like the coolest RC car, you just drive it to clean the surface. I let my newest employee drive it and have some fun, after of course, doing some manually first.

But yeah, was just super grateful to get to do a job 10 minutes away and feel like I was helping to keep things clean.

Let me know how it's looking if you're stopping by!

Cheers,
Andrew

Please let us keep our nice things :(

I walk along the waterfront a LOT (and pick up as much "easy" litter as I can... beer cans and coffee cups etc)... but the "willful destruction" stuff I see drives me crazy. These photos are from May 12. Someone took ceramic dinner plates down to the boardwalk , between the boat launch and the pier, and smashed them on the rocks there.

There is also broken glass all over the walkway between the lifeguard station and the beach... obviously an amazing thing to do right where tons of people will be walking in bare feet soon.

and an older one.... but I see that the city just tried to fix it.. but dating back to last fall... as soon as the city laid down sod along the new walkway area near Couch Beach, some idiot took his truck and burned skid marks all over the place, tearing the new dirt and grass all up.

Drives me absolutely crazy.

and this post is NOT meant to imply City staff aren't getting to these things fast enough. I don't believe that to be the case. This is just frustration at people destroying what we should be cherishing and protecting.

Does anyone in Orillia know a cheap notary public or place that can attest/certify documents?

As the tittle says I’m opening a bank account from my home country for savings and they need copies of my passport work permit address proof to be attested or certified.

Looking for something affordable around Orillia if needed. Thanks!
