Is the mattress completely bricked since the only way to control the mattress is through their servers? Is the app bluetooth or is it relayed through their servers?
Can anyone here speak to how the Orion changes the feel of sleeping on a Purple mattress? Thanks so much!
I had an 8 Sleep (Pod 3) that leaked multiple times. The first time, they replaced it without much hassle. The second time, I was basically ghosted (I never heard back despite multiple attempts to get support).
I switched to the Perfectly Snug because I wanted to avoid water-based systems. It’s been reliable, but the temperature regulation isn’t in the same league as the 8 Sleep. I do appreciate the physical controls, though; they’re a nice quality-of-life feature.
For anyone who’s used either/both, what are your thoughts on the Orion? What are the real pros and cons compared with the 8 Sleep? How comfortable is the topper? One thing I never loved about my old 8 Sleep was that you could feel the water channels under you at times. Has Orion solved that, or is it similar?
Just over a month ago, I saw a LinkedIn post for a Head of CX role at Orion Sleep. I threw my hat in, and around the same time joined this subreddit to see what real users had to say.
About a day later, I was excited to hear back from Randall at Orion Sleep about the role. I replied within a few hours and waited. A couple of days passed with no response, so I checked in again. Still nothing from Randall — and when I checked back a few days after that, his profile had been removed and our conversation flagged as spam.
Having worked at early-stage startups before, I took a guess at Randall's email and sent a note directly. No bounce-back, but no reply either.
Seeing some of the forward logistics issues coming up in this sub, I wanted to reach out publicly — I'd genuinely love the chance to help Orion's team sort through them.
Just purchased the king size Orion system for my wife and I with the 2 sleep tests. What is the average shipping times for the sleep tests/ unit itself. We’re excited to use it as we both sleep very hot and have tried other methods like the BedJet but didn’t care for it and hate setting our AC to 66 at night as it gets expensive.

New Orion owner here, and I want to like this — genuinely excited to move from an air-based cooler to water. The Control Tower arrived June 30. But the mattress cover has turned into a frustrating experience, and it’s less about the delay than how it’s being handled.
Here’s what I can see myself:
- Both the tower and the cover left the same San Bernardino, CA origin on June 27, minutes apart.
- The tower shipped LaserShip, got picked up that night, and was at my door by June 30 — scan after scan the whole way.
- The cover shipped UPS Ground, and its last event is “arrived at sort center, June 27.” That’s it. No pickup scan, no UPS possession, nothing in five days.
I’ve contacted support twice. Both times I was told the cover “has shipped and is on the way.” But that’s not what any of my tracking shows — it shows a package that hasn’t moved since origin. What’s frustrating isn’t the wait, it’s being told “it’s on the way” as if that answers the question, when it just repeats the one scan I can already see. It feels like no one actually pulled the shipment and looked into why UPS hasn’t picked it up, or where it really is.
That’s all I’m asking for. Not a canned “it’s on the way” — an actual investigation. Has UPS taken possession or not? Is the July 5 estimate real or a placeholder sitting on top of a package that never moved? If it’s stuck at origin, tell me that and reship it. I’d take an honest “it’s stuck, here’s the fix” over another reassurance that the tracking flatly contradicts.
Anyone else had the cover stall at origin like this while the tower sailed through? And if someone from the team sees this — please dig into the actual shipment before telling me it’s on the way.
I'm hoping someone here can help. I purchased a Orion sleep system. I only received the mattress cover without the tower. I reached out to Orion in hopes of getting this sorted quickly. Initially I received a quick response from Orion logistics person saying he would look into this and let me know the status. After a couple days without a response, I reached out to the same logistics person directly. The response I received was very vague, generic and most likely a cut and paste since he didn't even correct it to my name. He Just left the original name there.
What's also concerning is that the shipping tracker provided by Orion is in direct conflict with the actual UPS tracker? UPS only shows a label has been created? No custody. Orion's tracker says its sitting in a UPS Depot for 6 days.
The fact that I can only get a vague response from Orion is concerning. No definitive actions and no time frames in response has me frustrated. Any help here would be appreciated. I was really looking forward to getting this system but now I'm wondering if I should have gone with the competitor.

I basically want to put something on top of the cover so that it doesn’t get dirty. Anyone have any good ones they like that you still get the benefit of the cooling cover?
I’ve looked at Parachute, Avocado, and others but they seem to have a thin box quilt like thing on the top and I want to be sure it doesn’t disrupt the topper.
Will shipping to Canada be a thing in the near future? I can drive to Oroville but it's a couple of hours so I'd rather not. Especially if I had to return something, makes even more trips.
Am I reading this right that if the unit loses connection to Orion servers it stops working? I thought you could manually tell it the desired temperature for the 4 stages. Wouldn't it revert to those during a disconnect?
How much heat should I expect from the base assuming my room temperature is no higher than 74f? Part of the reason I want this is because the air movement in the master bedroom isn't great so I don't want to add a lot of heat to the room.
Is a controlled pillow case in the works?
Has anyone had experience with returning the unit in the first 30 days?
My wife likes having a heavy blanket and comforter. She then needs the room to be cold at 69° to be comfortable. This causes our entire home to be pretty cold. Specifically our daughter’s room gets ridiculously cold. (Well below 69°)
The other issue is we are on a geothermal system we set at 75° during the day. GT systems don’t like making big swings in temp and about 2x a week when it’s really hot it trips the system.
How did going to an Orion system change your thermostats habits?
My hope is that I can keep my wife cool when she sleeps, allow her to keep her blankets and adjust the thermostat to be warmer in the summer.
Our house is already warm and I want to remove the heat from the back of the Orion unit.
What ideas have people come up with that have made a difference?
Deciding between Orion Sleep and 8 Sleep. I love the thought of not having to pay a subscription so leaning towards Orion. On the other hand, 8 Sleep is more established, has better funding and is likelier to be around to actually deliver on a warranty.
I am also concerned about the pending lawsuit between them and the implications if Orion loses. Has anyone looked into these differences / has seen an unbiased review?
Is anyone else dealing with tube length issues - it is a tight fight and I can’t get the tube from the back of the mattress cover to the unit without significantly altering my nightstand setup. Anyone else experiencing this?
I just got my system in yesterday. The setup process brought to light a couple issues with my system. First the tower has no illuminated leds. But I can still click through and connect to my wireless network. The system primed just fine, but it does not cool at all. It sat on the coldest setting for 10hrs, and felt slight warmer than the room temperature. There is space around my tower, and I even put a fan pointed in the towers direction to help dissipate the heat it generates. Pretty disappointed to receive such an expensive yet broken piece of equipment.
Update...
I just received a new tower yesterday that works perfectly! The system was sent out the same day of my original post. No hassles at all. I just need to send back my other malfunctioning unit. The system really does cool the bed quite well, and I am very glad I got it, knowing that the summer will only get hotter. I am sure this will provide so much added comfort when I am sleeping.

6 months ago there wasn't one, I haven't followed Orion since. Is that still the case? And if no, still no plan to add one?
I put this together using the Orion MCP! I was going to use home assistant but since it doesn't really seem to be working for most of us to change the temp there, I went the MCP route.
I used an ESP32 and, because my room is dark and I'm a light sleeper, I went with OLED so I can have it very dim when not in use and made the interface super minimal. I just want to be able to change temp and turn on or off.
You can of course use a rotary dial but mine will be stuck on the side of the nightstand so I wanted it to be minimal.
have you felt the benefits of having extra restorative sleep, or seen it increase by way of trackers? assuming you dont have problems related to overheating and your buying this product soley for the health benefits/optimizations.
Last week I noticed that my Orion hasn’t been cooling off like it did when I first got it a month ago. I have it at max cold and it’s room temp. I’ll reach out to support in the morning and I know Orion will make it right but dues anyone have any trouble shooting tips to get me through the night?
