punpun vs takopi
Is it just me or is punpun just like a better takopi in basically every single way?
I feel like takopi leans way into the shock factor without really having the substance that punpun does. In takopi most characters felt like excessively evil carictures while punpun was certainly more grounded. and I feel like punpun handles the absurd elements in a much better way, takopi feels sort of tacked on.
dont get me started on the ending of takopi either.
aiko tanaka tattoo 🌸
as the title suggests lol aiko surrounded by forget-me-nots ♡
Sachi's opinion
I wrote this in another post, but since Sachi seems to be hated I wanted to offer my perspective.
Before meeting Sachi, Punpun was emotionally collapsing into himself, depressed, passive, and disconnected from life, he was a triangle!. Sachi, does see Punpun more clearly, including his ugliness, passivity, and self-destructive tendencies. She gets frustrated with him, pushes him, sometimes crosses boundaries, sometimes manipulates situations because she’s terrified he’ll disappear into himself. But unlike Aiko, she is not trying to escape reality with him. She is trying to drag him back into it.
She does have a savior complex, however, she did not just want to fix Punpun, she genuinely cared about him, worried about him, searched for him, stayed emotionally invested in him even when he withdrew completely. In a manga full of abandonment and emotional cowardice, that persistence matters.
What makes Sachi important is that she represents survival and real life, while Aiko represented fantasy, idealization, and mutual destruction. Sachi came from pain too, but unlike Punpun, she fought through it with force and determination, and she tried to pull him in that direction as well. Their relationship was messy and imperfect, but the moments with Sachi felt warmer and more grounded. The ending was hopeful in its own way: Punpun did not become magically healed, but he survived, returned to ordinary life, and still had someone beside him after everything.
Also, it was important to note that Punpun spends so much of the manga believing he is isolated, monstrous, unknowable, or invisible. But when people actively look for him, worry about him, and remember him fondly, it reveals how distorted his self-perception had become. He thought nobody cared. Yet people did. His friends look and worry for him.
Where the fuck can I read it???
I found goodnightpunpun.org but it has missing chapters. Everywhere else has a paywall
70 chapters in and I don’t hate him
He’s literally a monster, I can already tell. The thing is though, he never had any kind of role model for what intimacy or love or normalcy looks like. He doesn’t know how to interact with other people. He’s kind of relatable in that way as someone who’s autistic. He probably is on the spectrum, the way he talked about his mom’s surgery right before he tried to kiss kanie made that very apparent
Petition to get Joe Bart to read this?
As many already know Joe bartolozzi is pretty fond of philosophy and has a Channel just for philosophy. And since this manga has some pretty deep or dark philosophy behind characters. We should start a petition to maybe get him to read it and review it on his philosophy channel. Or atleast get him to do it in some other way
Also this as only just now occurred to me and is definitely not a refined idea and doesn’t have much thought behind it other than “man it’d be pretty cool if he read and rated it”
I wonder if he did read it if there is already a video on it and I’ve just not seen it but if there isn’t I’d definitely love to see him rate and go over it In a video.
My 3rd Punpun Cosplay (With Lights!) + Aiko!
Went and made an upgrade to my previous cosplay by adding lights to the eyes and making the base much lighter by using plastic mesh compared to iron mesh!
I originally went to this festival solo but stumbled across an Aiko cosplayer and she did her cosplay beautifully. We then did a photoshoot at night with some poses and they turned out AMAZING!
