upgrading my PC

Hi everyone,

I'm upgrading my PC and need your advice on choosing the best CPU for my workflow.

My usage:

After Effects (1080p Motion Graphics) ⭐ Most Important

Photoshop (Light use)

Media Encoder

Competitive Gaming ⭐ Important

Multitasking (Chrome, Discord, Emulator, Voice Chat, etc.)

My highest priority is a very smooth After Effects Preview. Render speed is not important to me. I don't use Blender, Cinema 4D, or heavy 3D workloads.

I'll also upgrade to 32GB DDR5.

CPUs I'm considering:

Ryzen 7 7700X

Ryzen 9 7900X

Ryzen 7 7800X3D

Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus

Which CPU would you choose for my workflow, and why? If you think there's a better CPU in the same price range, I'd appreciate your recommendation as well.

Best CPU with best value GPU vs Best GPU with best value CPU

When it comes to building with limited budget, a comprise has to be made.

Option 1 (Immediate Performance): Spend $750 on an RTX 5070 Ti and $150 on a Ryzen 7500F. You get maximum performance today, but when you upgrade, you will likely need to upgrade both components to avoid a massive CPU bottleneck.
Maybe you will need to upgrade in 5.5-6 years and have to spend another 900$

Option 2 (The Middle Way)
Get RX 9070 and Ryzen 7700

Option 3 (Long-Term Foundation): Spend $450 on a Ryzen 9800X3D and $450 on an RX 9060 XT. You get less performance for your money right now, but when you upgrade, you can simply drop in a GPU upgrade without touching the rest of the system.
Maybe you will need to upgrade in 4 years and spend around 450$

Which path do you think is better?

Rtx 3080, Ryzen 7 5800x for 34” monitor

Hello everyone I was wondering if my rtx 3080 10gb, Ryzen 7 5800x and 32gb ram will be able to perform good on a 3440x1440p 34” monitor. And how much fps I will lose. And about how much fps I will have in games like Battlefield 6, GTA V and god of war. I’m not really tryna play on the highest setting but maybe on medium settings. Thanks beforehand for the responses!

Should I, and if yes then how many, order extra fans for my PC?

The case I'm buying comes with 3, two in front one in the back. I'm going with a dark Rock pro 5 CPU cooler and a pulse 9070xt gpu. All in all that's already a nice amount of fans, do I need more? EDIT: I forgot to mention I have a fractal design mashify 2 compact solid

Motherboard: MSI Z270 gaming pro

Help me decide which is better

What I currently have:

PSU: AORUS Elite 850W

AIO: DeepCool LT720

MB:ASUS TUF B850-E WIFI

RAM: Kingston FURY 6000 CL30

SSD: Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB

And I still have around €300. What processor or graphics card should I buy? Right now, I have a 1660 Ti, which is inside the old computer I am selling, so I can use it for the time being. So I could either buy just a processor, or would it be better to get something like a 7500F and some graphics card, or what should I do? I plan to play at 1080p at first but transition to 1440p later, in about half a year.

First time PC buyer here. Need help picking between three options.

Hi everyone. Following all the news about pc parts getting more expensive, I’ve decided to finally get a pc. I would like the PC to be under $1.5K, preferably 1.2K seems to be the sweet spot. In terms of gaming, I’m not really a big frame rate/preformance guy. I have a base PS5 and that’s good enough for me. I would just like a PC that can play all games (now and future) at a decent preformance.

Future proof is kind of a big thing for me. I don’t want to get something and have it be outdated/useless within two years. Kinda why I chose options with DDR5 instead of 4. If you can’t tell, I don’t really know what I’m talking about, I just go off what I see online and what my friends tell me.

After searching the web I’ve come down to 2-3 options. Any help or advice on what to pick would be super helpful.

  1. CyberPowerPC - Intel Core Ultra 5 225F - Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 8GB - 16GB DDR5 Memory - 1TB SSD - Sale price $1.2K, originally $1.46K

  2. CyberPowerPC - AMD Ryzen 7 8700F - AMD Radeon RX 7700 16GB - 16GB DDR5 Memory - 1TB SSD - Price $1.36K

Those are the main two but there was also this third one that was my choice for a while before finding the other two

  1. Thermaltake LCGS NE i1460-V170B - Intel Core i5-14600K - ToughRam 16GB DDR5 - Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 - 1TB NVMe M.2 - Price $1.2k

Worth noting that the first two come with a mouse and keyboard while the third doesn’t.

Sorry for the long post, you may think I’m an idiot and you’re absolutely correct lol. Any advice whether obvious or not would be appreciated. I’m also willing to answer questions if it would help.

Thanks!

How bad is this?

So I built my son a PC using parts I had lying around.

Specs:

- Ryzen 3 3200G (taken from an old Optiplex)

- GTX 1080 Ti

- 16GB DDR4-3600 RAM

I figured the CPU would be enough to run less demanding games at 60 FPS or higher, and it does. However, everything seems to have a slight lag or stutter, even while games are running between 80–110 FPS. Even navigating Windows or browsing Google feels a bit slow nothing really feels snappy. While setting it up, I found myself accidentally opening a second window because I thought my first click hadn't registered.

Is there anything I should check or change to fix this, or is the Ryzen 3 really that bad? I was thinking about buying a 3rd gen Ryzen 5.

Is 7500f + 9070 a decent combo for 1440p ultra gaming?

I would've gone with a better CPU and an RX 9070 XT, but RAM and SSD prices ended up eating almost half of my budget lol. I was originally planning to build on AM4 since DDR4 RAM is way cheaper, but I decided to switch to AM5 because every AM4 CPU that's actually better than the 5700X is out of stock in my country.

I'll mostly be playing AAA games, with maybe one or two multiplayer games here and there. I'd be happy with anything around 100 FPS or more at native resolution, but I know that's not gonna happen in every game. Since this is my first PC build, I've never tried FSR upscaling or frame generation before, so I'm gonna give them a shot and see if I like how they look and feel.

I'm also not the type of person who upgrades every year. Once I build this PC, I just want it to last a good 5-7 years without feeling like I need to replace anything.

So I have 2 questions:

  1. Do you think this CPU + GPU combo is good enough for my usecase?
  2. Do you think it'll last me at least 2–3 years for AAA gaming on 2k Native Ultra settings (in case I don't like fsr and frame gen)?

Should I upgrade from a Ryzen 5 5500 to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D?

I bought this pre-built PC three years ago(I was still a rookie and didn't know what needed to be done, so I hadn't wanted to take the risk of building it myself.), and it has served me well until now, but I’ve been thinking about upgrading for a while. I forgot to list the components: Ryzen 5 5500, Nvidia 4060 Ti, 32GB of Crucial RAM, TEAM TM8FPD001T SSD, PRIME B450M-A II motherboard, and an Itek Desert 650W PSU.

I mainly play CPU-intensive games like BeamNG.drive, Minecraft, and Assetto Corsa, but I also play GPU-intensive titles like RDR2, GTA V, and Subnautica 2. On top of that, I occasionally do live streaming and video editing, and some schoolwork requires heavy CPU usage like blender. My only problem is that I can't find the CPU I want for under €200, and I’d also need a new CPU cooler—though I’m not sure which one to get (preferably a tower-style cooler). Do you have any advice on what I should do?

Update existing 5800x3d/32gb ram/7900xtx to 9850x3d/62gb ram or replace NVME and hold on until next gen

Last night, my gaming PC crashed and I tried to reload win11 on it and nothing is working. So, Im debating on two things:

  1. Buy a new PC https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3PnNzv
  2. Or, buy a new nvme and re-install windows an an existing 5800x3d/32gb ram, 7900xtx nitro+?

My main usage is gaming but secondary usage is Ansible/Python/Kubernetes studies. Im hoping for advice or other ideas on the parts please.
PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3PnNzv

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core Processor
  • CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 77 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Motherboard: MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
  • Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory
  • Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
  • Video Card: Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Video Card (I HAVE THIS FROM MY OLD SYSTEM)
  • Case: Noctua Antec Flux Pro Noctua Edition ATX Full Tower Case
  • Power Supply: Corsair RM1000x 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Total Price under $3k. Im splurging on the Case since I will be buying all Noctua fans anyways since this pc will be under my work desk for more quiet and 64gb of RAM is just crazy. I would love to save a couple of hundred with a MicroCenter deal but I dont want to spend wasted money on 4x 16gb sticks of RAM so I opted for 2x32GB

Or should I just wait until next year for the next level of PC stuff to come out and just buy the NVME and re-install?

EDIT: I purchased the NVME and replaced it but same problem. The only thing left is to replace RAM or send it to Microcenter so they can diagnose it and then most likely replace RAM.

  • SSD Samsung 9100 2TB (It is a gen5 but Im expecting it to cap at gen4 with the old mobo) $350 (already purchased)
  • Microcenter diagnostics $100
  • G.Skill Trident Z Neo Series RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3600 PC4-28800 CL16 Dual Channel Memory Kit F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC $300

That is looking like $750 unless I return the SSD and hope I can recover my old SSD.

Is this AM4 setup solid for 1440p High (not Ultra) gaming through 2028

Hey all, putting together this build and want a check before I upgrade my pc. Goal is 1440p gaming at High settings (not chasing Ultra/max) with ray tracing where supported, and I want it to stay relevant for the next couple years, not just right now.

Specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D

Motherboard: B550 chipset, dual M.2 slots

RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600MHz

GPU: ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 5070 12GB OC

Cooler: 240mm AIO liquid cooler

Storage: 1 TB nvme SSD + 2 TB nvme SSD + 2TB HDD + 4TB HDD

PSU: 750W 80+ certified

Case: ARGB mid-tower, 4 fans pre-installed, 165mm air cooler clearance / supports front 240mm radiator

Monitors: 1x 1080p 22" + 1x 27" (27 inch one is ips panel, 2k monitor with 200Hz )

Questions:

  1. Any bottlenecks I'm missing pairing the 5700X3D with the 5070?
  2. Is 32GB RAM overkill for gaming, or worth it for headroom?
  3. Will this realistically hold up for 1440p High settings (not Ultra) through 2028, or am I being optimistic about longevity on AM4 at this point?
  4. Anything you'd swap out for better value or future-proofing?

Appreciate any input, especially from anyone running a similar 5700X3D + 50-series combo already.
