PC randomly refuses to power on at home, but works perfectly at multiple repair shops. What could cause this?

My PC has a very strange intermittent power issue and I'm completely stuck.

Specs:

i5-12400F

Gigabyte B760M H motherboard

RTX 3050 6GB

16GB DDR5

500W ANT esports PSU

The problem is that when I press the PC power button and absolutely nothing happens. No fans, no motherboard lights, nothing.

The weird part is that I've taken the PC/motherboard to a Gigabyte service center three separate times, and the motherboard works perfectly every time they test it.

I've also taken the entire assembled PC to three different third-party technicians, and it worked normally for them as well.

But when I bring it home, the problem comes back.

I've tested multiple power sockets and even tested it in a different house/floor, so I'm not convinced it's simply one bad socket.

The shocking stuff is that this is happening when I just got into an internship(WFH) so its frustrating for me. But still gotta work on my home laptop which is so shit, can't even run minecraft on 60fps

No display

My pc is turning on with the fans and the lights as well as my keyboard lights but no display, but after trying yesterday it went on bios and I saved the settings without changing anything. After that I restarted it because it went on black screen again. Upon restarting, it said updating your system abd after 100%, it saud restarting but it turned black again (no display). I tried powering it off and on again, still no display. I also tried reseating my rams, cleaning it using eraser. Tried changing my thermal paste, tried the cmos battery method. Still no display (black screen). Please help me I think I can't afford consulting this at the repair shop

ArmouryCrate Issues \ Corruption

Shortly after getting my PC and looking into what Armoury Crate was, I learned it had caused many people BIOS\Windows errors and uninstalled it. Or at least, I thought I had.

Flashforward 3 years and I'm getting increasingly erratic behaviour and crashes from my PC. Every time I troubleshoot my way to a solution that seems like it's going to work—running some command, fully wiping out some driver/replacing it, etc—it does not work forever, only temporarily.

But at the edge of every investigation is ArmouryCrate, and now I've been rooting through windows errors and discovered that it seems ArmourySocketServer.exe (despite not showing up when running searches "guaranteed" to show me anything/everything) at the very least still exists. And seems to be running, producing errors because they won't shut down within 5000 miliseconds when the crash\restart hits.

Can anyone advise me on how to navigate this? My setup is 3 years old. I'm running an AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-Core Processor (4.70 GHz) with 32GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER with 6GB of VRAM. I've begun to have a strange error where sometimes in the logs it tells me to check E:\Windows, even though I have no E: drive and it's installed in C:, it's giving me these file paths that don't exist even inside of C:\Windows itself in error logs.

Deadlock full-system reboot — BugCheck 0x119 (VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR)

Issue

Deadlock black-screens, then the whole PC reboots. No on-screen BSOD. Happens in matches and while sitting in the lobby not moving. Other games are stable.

Crash codes

•  BugCheck 0x00000119 VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR
•  Kernel-Power 41 (unexpected restart)
•  EventLog 6008
•  Sometimes nvlddmkm, sometimes no NVIDIA error
•  Steam verify often says 1 file failed after a crash

When it happens

•  Started around 1–2 hours into a session
•  Later as fast as ~10 minutes
•  Holiday bounce-pad VFX
•  Ivy
•  Spectating Haze
•  8/18: full reboot while waiting for a match, not moving
•  One session lasted hours with no crash, then it came back with no setting/driver change

PC specs

•  CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D
•  GPU: Zotac RTX 4090
•  Mobo: ASUS PRIME X870-P
•  PSU: Corsair RM1000e (ATX 3.0)
•  Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G60SF, 2560x1440 @ 500 Hz (GPU only)
•  OS: Windows 11
•  NVIDIA driver: 596.49 (DDU + clean install)

HWiNFO at last logged crash (8/18 ~9:05 PM)

Power and temps were fine. Not a 12V drop.
GPU 12VHPWR: 12.15 V at crash (session 12.09–12.26 V)
GPU PCIe +12V: 12.25 V
GPU temp: ~46 C (max 54 C)
GPU hotspot: ~52 C (max 63 C)
GPU power: ~222 W (max 351 W)
GPU clock: 2685 MHz, still boosting
CPU (Tctl): ~63 C

What I already tried

Hardware / power
•  Reseated the 12VHPWR twice
•  Replaced the stock cable with a CableMod 90-degree 12VHPWR (worried maybe it bending caused a slight disconnect)
•  OCCT VRAM test: no errors
•  HWiNFO logging during a crash: 12VHPWR never dropped
•  Left BIOS CPU/SoC voltage alone

iGPU / display

•  Microsoft Basic Display Adapter Code 10
•  Disabled iGPU in Device Manager
•  BIOS: Primary Video = PCIe, Integrated Graphics = Disabled
•  That fixed no-display boots after shutdown
Drivers / NVIDIA
•  Updated AMD chipset software
•  DDU in Safe Mode
•  Clean NVIDIA install, then rollback to 596.49
•  NVIDIA Control Panel (deadlock.exe): Prefer maximum performance, 240 FPS cap, Low Latency Off, texture filtering High performance, VSync Off
•  Cleared DirectX shader cache

Windows

•  Fast startup off
•  Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling off
•  Steam overlay off
•  Deadlock run as administrator
•  TDR delay: TdrDelay = 10, TdrDdiDelay = 10

Deadlock

•  Full Screen, Direct3D 11 (-dx11)
•  Stretch (no FSR2 / DLSS)
•  Bloom / effects / AO off, shadows Low, Reflex Off
•  In-game FPS cap ~210
•  Full uninstall, deleted leftover SteamLibrary Deadlock folder, reinstall
•  No mods
•  Verify files (still reports 1 file failed after crashes)

This looks like a Deadlock + NVIDIA scheduler bug, not thermals or the 16-pin. Anyone else getting 0x119 reboots in lobby or on ability VFX? Any workaround besides waiting on a patch? Vulkan vs DX11?

Randomly Gets Stuck Booting to BIOS

A few months ago, I started running into an issue. My PC would just randomly boot to BIOS when I hit the power button. I went through basically every single fix and eventually unplugging the usb’s on the top of my computer made it open more consistently. Unfortunately, it has started booting to BIOS 1 out of every 20 or so times I try to turn it on. When I am actually able to get to my desktop, it blue screens and goes back to BIOS.

For context, my PC (bought in 2019) was originally a prebuilt from Alienware (The Aurora series) that I case swapped and replaced the motherboard, ram, and PSU. I am not very knowledgeable about computers but I’m trying my best lmao. I also overclocked it, but it ran perfectly for years aside from random storage issues and low framerate. The bios is the red and black version of Gigabyte.

My working theory is that it is having problems finding my windows file, but I don’t know how to confirm if that is the issue

Someone pls help me 😭😭, i’m literally so desperate and will answer any questions anyone has, I start school in less than a month and need this pc heavily.

TLDR: Pc keeps booting to BIOS and whenever I can actually get to my desktop, it blue screens.

Computer displaying weird patterns

Hello, I've never really had any problems with my PC until today it started randomly showing weird patterns and turning the video off, making the whole screen black. If I have a video playing, the audio keeps playing but the monitor stops displaying image.

Any idea of what's going on? My brother downloaded some DaVinci Resolve plug-ins and effects but I don't think it has a virus, Defender says everything is good.

Thanks in advance.

Why does my ssd randomly do this?

Randomly my disk will shoot to 100% usage and render my computer virtually unusable for however long it goes on. I used crystal disk checker and it says my disk is fine but i find that hard to believe. This happens randomly, sometimes daily, sometimes multiple times a day, sometimes it’ll be a couple days before it happens again. It happens when I first boot my computer sometimes, other times it’s fine. Sometimes it’s after i’ve been using it for a while and it’ll randomly make my system unusable. I’ve done all the regular windows debloat fixes and everything. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening? Do I need a new ssd?

Need help bios update taking really long

The more the update progressed the slower it would get, until at 68% it has completely stopped. It’s been a couple hours now with no movement, but I don’t think if done anything to fry my motherboard?
Any help would be great!

Edit: a day later it has only increased 1%, so it seems the most recommended option is the bios flashback. I’m not really well versed in any of this, so if anyone could help me out with that process it would be greatly appreciated! I made a separate post about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PcBuildHelp/s/yZhuWRNgIv

PC no longer has the option to connect via wifi

As of this afternoon the option to connect to wifi just disappeared from my computer. I thought it mightve been the windows update I installed, so I tried to uninstall them, but it wouldn't let me.

I checked my devices, and it says my wireless wifi driver just no longer worked, and I could only view it as a hidden device. I uninstalled it and attempted to reinstall it, but the computer won't run the driver installer, and not even an error pops up.

I've tried to load to a different save point on my computer, and after that, it still wouldn't reappear.

I honestly don't know how to fix this, and my pc is effectively bricked right now and just can not connect to any internet whatsoever.

My old rig “randomly” doesn’t boot anymore from SSD

So I built my pc about 15 years ago. Over time, I’ve added components here and there. About a year ago, the motherboard broke. So I replaced it with another one with the same socket and everything. Reinstalled Windows 10 just to be sure.

Fast forward to yesterday; it randomly slowed to a crawl. Win Task Manager wouldn’t open, my browser tabs wouldn’t open or close, although the video and sound from the running YouTube video were still going, etc. I couldn’t even restart from the start menu, so I figured I gave it a reset.

Since then, the pc just won’t boot.

The BIOS will recognize the SSD, but won’t boot from it. It doesn’t even list the SSD as a boot option. The only choices are the dvd player and the data disk. It’s still listed in the SATA information though.

When I try to run the boot override from the BIOS, the screen just goes blank for a couple seconds.

Specs:
Motherboard: Asus Z97A
CPU: Intel i7-4790K
Memory: 32Gb RAM (4x Kingston 8Gb)
SSD: SanDisk Ultra II 480Gb

I’ve reset the pc a couple times, did BIOS recover, turned the pc off for a couple of hours, and that’s about it.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks so much in advance.

PC Freezes When Playing any Video Game

So i've been traveling for the past 8 months and come back to my PC only for me to not get any display when I first turn it on. After Reseating both the GPU and RAM multiple times, I can finally get into it and it runs fine..... until I play a video game.

The full system freezes when playing games; Screen locks on current frame, no response to keyboard or mouse, requires holding the power button or flipping I/O to force a shutdown. Originally noticed mostly under heavy load games(Squad, Arma), but has also occurred at low load(KSP, CS). It's an old computer that i've beaten the **** out of and I'm planning on replacing it soon, but i'd still like to play some games on it. It also freezes when I plug in a second monitor to the gpu HDMI slot, but is fine wehn it has both monitors plugged in before turning it on.

When I ran Windows Mem Diagnostic, it immediately froze, but was fine when I did MemTest 86 for four passes. I've done WIN+SHIFT+CTRL+B durning a freeze and it only made a beep. Event Viewer says that there was Event ID 41(Kernel Power, Critical)

Here's the Specs:

ASUS Prime A320M-K With AMD R5 2600 six core

RTX3050

16GB RAM

Recently updated BIOS, Windows, and Drivers(Through NVIDIA)

550W Bronze PSU

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Cold-boot BSOD loop and BIOS freezes, but 100% stable after some time (Passed TM5 Extreme & 6hr gaming). Failing PSU?

Specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X

Motherboard: Gigabyte A520M K V2

RAM: 16GB DDR4 (Single stick)

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB

Storage: NVMe SSD

OS: Windows 11

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a really strange hardware issue and wanted to get a second opinion before I start buying replacement parts.

The Problem:

Whenever I turn on my PC after leaving it off overnight (a true cold boot), it goes into a complete crash loop. I get a variety of random BSODs, crashes on the login screen, and sometimes the system will even freeze dead inside the BIOS menu.

The BSOD error codes change almost every reboot:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1E)

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x7E)

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xA) (ntoskrnl.exe)

SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (0x3B) (dxgkrnl.sys)

INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x3D)

Recovery screen error 0xc0000098

The Weird Part:

After power-cycling multiple times for about 10–15 minutes, it suddenly boots into Windows normally.

Ran TestMem5 (Extreme@anta777 config) for nearly 3 hours with 0 errors.

Passed a 10-minute 100% CPU + GPU + RAM OCCT stress test.

Played games (like Palworld/Days Gone) for 3–6 hours straight with zero crashes or throttling.

But if I turn it off and let it sit cold until the next day, the entire cycle repeats. (Sometimes not tho)

What I've tried so far:

BIOS update: Re-flashed from a beta BIOS to a stable release.

Voltage tweaks: Manually bumped DRAM voltage to 1.38V and SoC voltage to 1.80V to rule out cold memory training issues. No change.

Windows file repair: Ran DISM /RestoreHealth and sfc /scannow (repaired damaged files from previous hard cuts).

Crash Dump check: Latest minidump pointed to csrss.exe terminating due to memory read failures.

Other Clues:

The Power Supply has a noticeable, load-sensitive coil whine.

Since the RAM passed TM5 Extreme and the system hangs even in the BIOS setup screen sometimes, does this sound like cold-sensitive PSU capacitor degradation dumping ripple into the VRMs/memory controller, or should I be looking at something else?

Any insights would be appreciated!

Need help! My pc can't handle Minecraft on base settings!

Hello everyone!

I'm a proud owner of a pc that has been nothing but exceptional since 2021. It helps me edit videos, and handles games like NBA 2k, Fifa, hitman,... with ease. (SPECS BELOW)

The problem begins earlier this year when I came home from a 2 week trip to a non-bootable pc. During the process of diagnosing, I removed the cpu and noticed at least one pin was bent (put it back since i didn't want to risk worsening it). The problem was solved when I removed the sata cable connected to the internal ssd, but the pc booted up to a completely different desktop, with old apps and documents from the time before i rebuilt my pc (2021).

Just today, I open Minecraft, to which I found out that my pc can't even run smoothly on base settings, like nothing moves for at least half a second. I downloaded novabench to test but it did not give out anything too visibly bad. I did however take a screenshot of HWMonitor while Minecraft was on, and the cpu was running peak at 77C.

Given the current circumstance, and the details mentioned above, I really need an opinion or two on what could be the the problem. Are there other tests that I can do? Which component(s) seems to be the main problem? I'm basically clueless on what to do next, so anything should help plenty. Thank you!

SPECS:

- Board: NZXT N7 Z590

- CPU: Intel I7 10700k 3.80GHz

- GPU: RTX 3060 Ti

- RAM: 4x 8gb Trident Gskill

- SSD: + Evo 870 1TB

+ 970 Evo Plus 500Gb

PC won't Shut Down. PC Powered on Normaly but Black Screen Only

I’m having a strange issue with my PC and would appreciate some advice

PC specs:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
  • Motherboard: ASRock B450M-HDV
  • Display: TV via HDMI

Yesterday Morning I initiated a Windows Update and Shutdown.

However, the PC never completely shut down. The screen turned off, but:

  • CPU fan was still spinning
  • Case fans were still spinning
  • Motherboard was still powered on

I waited for approximately 1 hour, but it still didn't shut down, so I eventually forced the PC off using the power button.

When I turned the PC back on:

  • PC powered on normally
  • HDMI showed as connected/detected
  • Screen remained completely black
  • Keyboard powered on
  • Caps Lock key/indicator was responsive

I tried entering BIOS by repeatedly pressing DEL and F2, but I couldn't get any BIOS display.

I also tried several hard restarts, but the result was the same.

First GPU Reseat

I completely removed the RTX 3060 and reseated it.

After that, suddenly the PC booted normally:

GPU information → ASRock logo → Windows

Everything appeared to work normally.

Then I Tried to Access BIOS

I used Windows' Advanced Startup / UEFI Firmware Settings to restart directly into BIOS.

The PC restarted, the screen went black, but the PC did not shut down/restart properly. The CPU fan, case fans, and motherboard remained powered on indefinitely while the display stayed black.

GPU + PSU Reconnection

I then:

  • Removed/reseated the GPU again
  • Unplugged/replugged the PSU power cable

After that, the PC once again booted normally.

NVIDIA Driver Update

I then updated my NVIDIA GeForce driver.

After restarting, the same behavior occurred:

  • Screen goes black
  • PC remains powered on
  • Fans continue spinning
  • It doesn't properly restart/shut down

I waited approximately 5 minutes, but nothing changed, so I manually powered it off.

Current Situation

After waiting ~30 seconds, I powered it back on.

Now I'm back to the original problem:

  • PC powers on
  • HDMI is detected by the TV
  • Screen is completely black
  • Keyboard is powered on
  • Caps Lock responds
  • No ASRock logo
  • No BIOS screen
  • Windows Recovery/Safe Mode also doesn't appear despite multiple forced shutdown/restart attempts
  • Reseating the GPU no longer consistently fixes the problem

At this point I'm quite confused because reseating the GPU temporarily made the PC boot normally twice, but now the black screen has returned.

I'm wondering whether this could be related to the interrupted Windows Update, the NVIDIA driver update, a GPU/PCIe initialization issue, or possibly a hardware problem with the RTX 3060/motherboard.

Any suggestions on what I should test next would be greatly appreciated.

TLDR :
Previously When it still On, My pc won’t shut down,
and now when i turn it on, only show black screen
