Azer Barbarian Kineticists

I am currently brainstorming character builds based around dwarfs for an upcoming session starting at level 1. I find the Ifrit heritage interesting for a dwarf to flavor him as an azer and want to go the barbarian elemental instinct route with the kineticist dedication.
Barb, because I want him to be a quick tempered hot headed guy (pun intended).
Since it’s my first session I need some help with useful level 1 feats. Do any of the ifrit feats benefit my character at lvl 1?
I am also not sure which class feat I am going to take, and which weapon and armor I should choose. I start with +4 Str, +1 Dex, +3 Con, 0 Int, and either +1 wis and 0 cha or +2 wis and -1 cha since I am unsure whether to invest in intimidation.
As for weapons, I like them to be brawling flavored, since my first idea was either monk or animal barb and I wonder whether knuckles are somewhat useful.

Barbarian Monk or Monk Barbarian

I am currently building a hot tempered dwarven brawler character , who is also a sailor (deckhand) and I want to do some combination of Barbarian and Monk. Initially I started out as a monk and I went with the dragonblood versatile heritage for scaly hide, to have decent AC without picking mountain stance and to make room for other stances, maybe dragon, wolf or tumbling.
I am not sure whether I would be better off starting with barbarian and then take the monk archetype. The downside is lower AC and one less proficiency but I get rage, a nice unarmed attack (deer or shark) that doesn’t use my fists, I get a higher AC later with animal skin but I don’t know whether attack of opportunity would be a better choice.
I am also thinking about taking the dromaar versatile heritage for some nice orc feats.
Can anyone recommend the best configuration?

Thrown weapon builds that aren't Exemplar?

Preamble

Recently I've been thinking about thrown weapons' place in the system. They're an interesting compromise between melee and ranged damage and provide excellent versatility assuming it's a melee weapon to begin with.

For the purpose of this post, I'm specifically referring to a single weapon you throw repeatedly, not a build that uses a thrower's bandolier. To narrow it down even further, I want to keep the discussion to the starknife.

I've excluded Exemplar because it seems to be most people's default answer for a throwing build, but I'm not very fond of the flavor of the class, nor the their mechanics for throwing builds, and don't think it would fit at my table.

I've considered several options, but I'd like to narrow it down to one. I also would like to hear from anyone with actual experience playing these types of characters.

Option 1 - Champion (Justice)

Pros:

  • Ranged Reactions with Nimble Reprisal
  • Free Returning rune that, per Errata, doesn't count against total runes
  • Good defensive options
  • Focus spells for healing, utility, or damage
  • Good damage options at levels 6+ (Smite, Blessed Counterstrike, etc)
  • Expand Aura for increasing reaction range

Cons:

  • No damage boost at earliest levels
  • only Justice benefits from thrown/ranged weapons
  • CHA focused features are MAD

Option 2 - Swashbuckler

Pros:

  • Flying Blade allows for finishers at range
  • Many ranged debuff options (Demoralize + Antagonize, or Enjoy the show)
  • Can drop CHA entirely with right Style (Battledancer + Acrobatic Performer)
  • Great Skill progression
  • High Maneuverability
  • +1 to bravado actions

Cons:

  • No ranged reactions without an archetype

  • Defensively Average

  • CHA focused styles can be MAD

Option 3 - Thaumaturge

Pros:

  • 10ft Ranged Reaction with weapon implement
  • Early access to ranged off-guard (Divine Disharmony)
  • Good flat damage boosts (Empowerment, or Adept Regalia)
  • Plentiful Utility options (Scrolls, Diverse Lore, and Talismans)
  • Feats are less build defining, good for archetypes

Cons:

  • CHA key ability & MAD
  • No free hands
  • Tight action economy
  • Lower Hitpoints

Honorable Mentions

  • Precision Ranger (far shot + hunter's aim)
  • Investigator
  • Mastermind Rogue (Strong arm + Analyze Weakness)
  • Starlit Span Magus
  • Weapon Familiarity Monk (Human + unconventional weaponry)

Dishonorable Mentions

  • Barbarian (Raging Thrower)
  • Bard (Warrior)
  • Cleric (Warpriest)
  • Wizard (War Mage archetype)
  • Inventor (Weapon Innovation)

Final Thoughts

All of these options are assuming no free-archetype. The considerations would change considerably given the option to mix and match. That's why I didn't really delve into archetypes. However, archetyping is still an option I'm willing to consider.

Anyways, I'd love to discuss what you all think are the best options for such a concept.

Dwarven sailor monk

Hi, I am new to PF2e and I am currently planning a character for an upcoming oneshot this weekend. I don’t know on which level we are going to play, so I built a lvl 1 character. I want to play a dwarven ruffian so I went with the sailor background just for flavor and I was going for a strength based monk build.
I have +4 Str, +1Dex, +3 Con, +2 Wis, 0 Int, -1 Cha
With this setup I was going for the Mountain stance feat, but I am wondering if flood stance would thematically also be a nice fit, but I am not sure if it’s too situational.
As for Heritage I was thinking either forge or strong blooded dwarf for the resistances or the latter for being a hardened drinker.
But I was wondering whether a custom heritage such as dromaar or aiuvarin would also be nice featwise. Dromaar for the orc ferocity feat, aiuvarin for nimble elf feat to mitigate the low movement speed of the dwarf. Both heritages would also offer a nice reason for my dwarf being different and becoming a sailor. The dwarf feat I would otherwise choose would be rock runner.
For higher levels I‘d like to flavor my monk as a tavern brawler and want to go for the barbarian archetype.
Do you have any suggestions about feats, heritage and stances. This is my first ever PF character, so don’t be hard on me.

Please rate this character.

I've always liked Thaumarurge, and while working on concepts for ranged attack characters, I remembered this meme (I was hesitant to post the image), and I started sketching this character. As you can see, it's still incomplete because I don't know how to fill in the gaps. The main thing would be to abuse scrolls, talismans, and cause damage; the wand is there for obvious reasons.Just to get more into the character, I'm thinking of getting a Familiar. Would it be better to use a class feat or a free archetype? Thanks for the help!Note: Although I want to cause harm and be useful, I confess that this character is becoming more and more appealing to me because of the meme 😅

Here is the build link for Harry Potter with a gun. To view this build you need to open it on an android device with version 271+ Pathbuilder 2e installed. https://pathbuilder2e.com/launch.html?build=1468818

Can an alchemist be a good ranged damage dealer?

Hello friends, I'm back with another question. I received great advice about a ranged damage dealer character, and I already have a solid build, but I'd like to know, specifically with the Alchemist, how close I can get to a good ranged damage dealer. Yes, I'm quite sure it won't be like the characters suggested in my last post, but what can I achieve? Thank you!

Hestia Pringle, the Soup Saint of Sandpoint (female skilled human cook exemplar 7)

The latest entry to Ravingdork's Crazy Character Emporium has arrived! I've been fleshing out this character concept for a week. Now that it's ready, I wanted to share it. Feel free to comment in the forum thread or use it as you see fit. Since I can't link to OneDrive on Reddit, I've instead linked to my official forum post from which you can find the full character sheet, Pathbuilder progression, and recommended combat strategies.

Hestia Pringle, the Soup Saint of Sandpoint (female skilled human cook exemplar 7)

A tough, hunched old grandmother who spent her retirement running Pringle’s Hearth, feeding dockworkers, refugees, and goblin children. Then the Godsrain struck. Now this reluctant Exemplar wields a heavy iron khakkhara hung with pots, pans, cleavers, and a dinner bell, tenderizing bandits while handing out divine healing stew from her horn of plenty.

Humble by day, fiercely protective by necessity--she'll fuss over your wounds one moment and crack a sellsword's knee the next, all while muttering, "I’ve tenderized tougher meat than you!"

Perfect for Pathfinder 2e War of the Immortals campaigns. Everyone needs a battle grandma.

Full ReBuild Friday - The Houndmaster [Human Ranger]

THE HOUNDMASTER

CHARACTER William

SOURCE Darkest Dungeon

BUILD GOALS

o    A former lawman and his faithful hound, he left the service when he found his own compatriots guilty of a heinous crime

o    As a playable hero, he is very well-rounded and flexible, using a cudgel and his constant companion’s fangs to fight against the horrors of the Darkest Dungeon

o    All Houndmasters have Hound’s Rush, which inflicts bleed damage and inflicts increased damage against beasts and marked creatures

o    Hound’s Harry hits multiple creatures to inflict lower damage but leaves them bleeding

o    The Houndmaster himself gets in on the fight with Blackjack, which damages and stuns a target

o    For some more utility based effects, Target Whistle can Mark a target and reduce their protections, Cry Havoc reduces the stress of his allies, and Guard Dog redirects damage from an ally to the Houndmaster

o    He can Heal himself with Lick Wounds

o    His camping skills focus on reducing stress while increasing the chance of scouting out and surprising enemies

Summary of Goals: The Houndmaster makes for a highly versatile build, but it definitely needs a focus on an animal companion. Bleed is a surprisingly common aspect of the kit, but he can also make an enemy more vulnerable, protect his allies, and heal his own wounds. The design lends itself towards a martial build, which might make representing Blackjack a little difficult as such classes can’t always find the stunned condition.

BUILD CONCLUSION

The Houndmaster is a skilled human ranger with a precision hunter’s edge and a background as a detective, a life that he left behind after discovering the corruption of his compatriots. We represent his hound through a hyena animal companion, which will be handy when it comes to replicating the bleed effects of Hound’s Rush and Hound’s Harry skills. Hound’s Rush further features extra damage against marked targets, which inspired the use of the ranger class in the first place and further led to the use of the precision hunter’s edge. We delve into guardian a bit for a few reasons, one of them being Ring Their Bell to represent the stun of his Blackjack. With that, we can explore some more of his utility skills a bit, such as his Target Whistle through the ranger’s Hunt Prey, No Cause for Alarm stepping in as his Cry Havoc, and further exploration of guardian and specifically its Guardian’s Intercept for Guard Dog. After he’s taken damage in place of his teammates, he can use Battle Medicine to treat his own wounds and then completes Lick Wounds with heal companion. By expanding on his Medicine skill and getting options such as Paragon Battle Medicine, we have even more ways of reducing the stress, or frightened condition, of his allies per his camping skills, which also cover some scouting capabilities. For those, we have Incredible Scout, True Perception, and similar effects.

This former flatfoot and his furry friend fight fiends and fouler foes while faithfully ferreting out facticity, feeling a fervent fancy to face phenomena.

Per the votes cast, I rebuilt the Houndmaster from Darkest Dungeon. You can check out the full details of the design over on the free Patreon post or the YT video. Have a fantastic Friday!

Textbuilder2e - Convert Pathbuilder exports to text suitable for posting, for example, on reddit

I made a small Python script that converts Pathbuilder 2e JSON exports into clean, readable text formats. Useful for sharing builds on reddit, etc.

Two output formats:

  • Build progression - shows your choices level by level (ancestry boosts, feats, skill increases, etc.)
  • Static sheet - complete character sheet with final stats

Usage:

textbuilder2e.py character.json --static

Or read directly from clipboard with -c.

Free, open source, no dependencies beyond Python 3.10+.

Trying to build a character with "frlying swords" concept, please help

Well, 'trying'. I am very bad at building, so that would be very great if someone could help me! The idea is basically on a picture. Some kind of (possibly) spellsword that has swords flying around, doing some functions (like if it was a champion, the flavor of shields could be that swords form a protecting wall or something) and damaging.

We are playing free archetypes game.

I was thinking about a Magus class, laughing shadow + Psychic dedication, tangible dream+ Exemplar dedication, shadow sheath ikon where I could just re-flavour throwable daggers as swords with the stats of daggers.

I am sure this is extremely sub-optimal, would be very glad for detailed help.

Is this too much for a Druid?

I am getting to start playing in a small 2-person party. I was thinking of playing a Storm Druid, if I used Order Explorer for Untamed and my free archetype for Beastmaster am I stretching myself too thin?

My thoughts are in encounters that I do not want to commit rank spell slots I can use untamed form instead of spamming my cantrips, so I have my spell slots for the more challenging encounters. If I am spell casting, I use two actions to cast a spell then my third action to common my animal companion and while using Untamed form I can use an action to move an action to attack and then my third action to command. This seems like a viable play pattern but I worry in practice that focusing on spell casting, untamed form and an animal companion will be too much and I am missing something that will have me fall behind by being so unfocused. Any advice or insights would be much appreciated. Thank you

Superior ranged martial damage.

Basically, the text is about avoiding spellcasters as a base class (but not as a Free Archetype). What class/build would stack a good amount of damage dice? For your information, level 12 with Free Archetype. Thank you!

Help Creating the Nastiest Automaton Exemplar I Can

For reasons outside of my control, my sweet baby Thief Rogue has been removed from my game. Between his skill-monkey capabilities and pretty terrifying levels of damage, I'm going to miss him dearly. But I've been given the sign-off from our GM to put together an Exemplar for my new character, and I want to tear shit up. Insofar, our group consists of:

  • Human Monk: Focused on athletic maneuvers, very wrestler coded. Big beefy boy, and our only Strength focused guy.
  • Vishkanya Thaumaturge (Mirror Implement): A melee fighter as well, but more focused on Finesse weapons. Has Medicine focus.
  • Kobold Gunslinger (Pistolero): Some overlap with my old Rogue, funnily enough. Charismatic, high damage, good dexterity.
  • Human Wizard (Battle Magic): We're really early on so I haven't seen much of what he can do, but seems to be standard wizard stuff. Also has Medicine.
  • Human Oracle (Flames): This one hasn't joined the group yet, but I assume they're gonna be burning stuff down with some healing here and there.

So as you can see, we have a pretty balanced crew already, besides the slight bias towards range and dexterity. I've been reading this Challenging the Divine guide, and it's been pretty helpful. I mostly need some help focusing in on the mechanical side of things. There's a few "requirements" I'm trying to hit:

  • Race has got to be Automaton. It's pretty core to the concept I'm considering, so I'd love some synergy here. Heritage can be one of the Versatile ones, though, if it's a big help.
  • Big Damage. Was looking at ideas like the "Berserker" from the Guide. Beyond that, I prefer not using a two-handed weapon. Since we're in a more Industrial-Fantasy setting, we can use the Uncommon/non-standard weapons, as well.
  • Utility. This game has a lot of downtime. It's what made my Rogue so fun, we had skill checks for days, so he got a ton of use there. I know I won't be able to get Rogue levels of skill increases, but I want to have the capability to be proactive outside of a fight, too.
  • No Free Archetype. Several people in our group are pretty new so our GM isn't using it.
  • Not INT based. My last character in this group, in 5e, was a two-handed Eldritch Knight/War Wizard. So very smart, big sword, etc. I don't want to just tread that same ground again.

I'd love some advice in regards to building this character. I really loved that Rogue, but I can't use them, so I'm hoping that the process of making this character will bring me to an end destination I'm really content with. Feel free to ask any clarifying questions, I'm even down for chat discussions to flesh this out, etc etc. Thank you all, and have a good one!

Full Build Friday - Clive Rosfield

CLIVE ROSFIELD

SOURCE Final Fantasy XVI

BUILD GOALS

o    The unfavorite son of an archduke, Clive was trained in the art of combat before being enslaved as a soldier

o    He eventually seized freedom and sought to fight for a better world while also figuring out some of the mysterious aspects of his past

o    An adept swordsman who thrives in close quarters though he is versatile and also possesses ranged capabilities

o    He can absorb the aether of various Eikons, using a wide array of powers and elements mostly to enhance his melee combat

o    With these various Eikons, he can still produce more general magic, such as producing a chilling orb with Shiva, gaining draconic wings from Bahamut, and calling down lightning with Ramuh

o    However, his primary Eikon is Ifrit, the Eikon of Fire, which he is able to transform into

Summary of Goals: Clive honestly seems to be a fairly straightforward gish – a mix of martial might enhanced by magic that he has absorbed from the Eikons. We’ll be looking to represent the various elements that he can bring to use to both enhance his attacks and cast some more typical spells. Representing his ability to transform into Ifrit will also be important and actually a little tough to pull off.

BUILD CONCLUSION

Clive Rosfield is a suli human magus who has undertaken a hybrid study of the aloof firmament and has a press-ganged background. While Clive is the son of an archduke, which he represents with his Society investment and Courtly Graces, he was also enslaved to be a soldier, hence this background and the Streetwise feat. The magus class means that he can become a master swordsman while also providing him with an array of spells that are further expanded by his Wizard Dedication. By using these spells to focus on elemental effects, he can represent the various Eikons he uses and the abilities they grant him. For Shiva, he can create sustained ice effects such as Rime with ice storm, the freeze with frost pillar, and the dash plus damage of Cold Snap with frigid flurry. The wings seen in a few Bahamut abilities could be his fly while the Sentinels it summons could easily be represented by flame wisp. There’s also lightning bolt for Gigaflare, breathe fire for Flare Breath, and falling stars for his Wings of Light. Many of Garuda’s abilities make me think of gouging claw while the spins and swipes suit Whirlwind Spell, but there’s also gravitational pull for her Deadly Embrace and flame vortex for her Aerial Blast. I haven’t even started talking about Ramuh’s stuff, but I don’t want to list out every little thing after I already went over it in the initial description. That being said, I do want to cover Ifrit, which will take a bit of a combo with mantle of the magma heart and fiery body so that he can be large and in charge.

Brave and brooding, this battler brings blade and bewitchery to bear to beat and butcher beasts, bandits, and brigands before his body burns and blazes into a burgeoning beast.

I'm not personally familiar with this character, but conversed with friends who were to figure out how this build. Be sure to let me know how I did! If you want to see the deeper details of it, you can check out the free post on the Patreon or the YT video. Thanks and have a fantastic Friday!

Gravity Mage

Looking for advice on how to make a Gravity, time and space mage in pathfinder 2e. What class would represent it the best. Free archetype and ancestral paragon is on the table.

Give me your best Spells/Items/Combos for a Frontline Untamed Druid (pretty please)!

Pretty much what it says on the tin! For Context, I'm playing an Untamed Druid, we're currently Level 8, (Our team comp is Druid, Bard, Fighter, Gunslinger: Sniper and Alchemist: Chiurgeon) and my stats are +2 STR +2 DEX +4 CON +1 INT +5 WIS and +0 CHA (courtesy of Gradual Ability Boost). We ARE playing Free Archetype (Currently Have Medic, Acrobat and Shadowdancer) and Ancestry Paragon (Kobold) as well, but frankly my Ancestry doesn't lend itself to combos with Untamed and my Free Archetype slots are taken, I prefer to have them for thematic things. That said, I'll start with some cool stuff I already have planned!

Retrieval Belt shenanigans: Afaik nothing prevents Rainbow Vinegar or Iron Wine from working with Untamed Form, nor am I prevented from using Mistform Elixir or other such non-Polymorph/Morph buffs to enhance my forms. And though it comes online MUCH, MUCH later Bottled Night also helps, albeit mostly in base Druid shape as it enables Shadow Jump and Shadow Master without (afaik) interacting with Magic.

https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=3102 - Retrieval Belt

https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=3456 - Rainbow Vinegar

https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=3455 - Iron Wine

https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=3310 - Mistform Elixir

Vital Beacon: I'm the team's tertiary healer (or I will be once our Bard gets to play, she joined recently) BUT our other Healer is a Chiurgeon who prefers to hit stuff and use his Versatile Vials for damage/buffs. Nothing wrong with that, but I feel as if Vital Beacon helps with spot healing and sustaining over the course of a Moderate encounter if I'm in Untamed Form, and keeps me from panicking over a potential lack of healing for the party. TL;DR It's Healing that I can use in Untamed Form, and solid Action Economy for spot healing.

https://2e.aonprd.com/Spells.aspx?ID=1743

Life Connection: A Contingency Spell, and another Spell that can be cast and lasts an entire day, with the twist being....it provides a Reaction that can be used in Untamed Form! In particular, I can take one instance of damage for someone. Not super flashy, but I know that our Bard has very little CON and she's a Dirge of Doom user so she needs to be relatively close to the frontline. This just ensures the damage goes where it's supposed to....(my face).

https://2e.aonprd.com/Spells.aspx?ID=939

SpellGuard Shield/Warding Statuette: To be frank, Glass Shield is kind of awful and Druids get Shield Block by default, as well as this being a Campaign with many enemy Spellcasters. As for the Warding Statuette, aside from providing Shield for my Druid I BELIEVE that said Shield would also continue to work if I used it and then Untamed Form, giving me access to a Reaction that might be more helpful than Dodge Away or Cringe if I wanna sit back for a turn or need to.

https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=2826 - SpellGuard Shield

https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=2242 - Warding Statuette

Floating Shield: This is a Buckler, so while I want one hand free for Battle Medicine and one will be taken by SpellGuard Shield I can use this not only to block, but for its secondary effect....Once per day I can have Floating Shield, well float around my character and provide a +1 AC bonus. No marks for guessing what I'll use this with (it's Untamed Form). Awesome Shield.

https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=2819

(Brace yourself) Uh....Winglets/Tailwind/Boots of Bounding/Maneuvering Spell/Size-Changing Rune/Moment of Renewal: Ahem, gesundheit. Let me break this down; Winglets extend your Leap distance by 5 feet, cumulative with Boots of Bounding (afaik) and Tailwind enables my base Leap to be 15 feet making a total of 25. This interacts nicely with Maneuvering Spell, as that Feat allows me to Leap as a Free Action when I'm casting a 2 Action Spell. Not only is this GREAT for baiting out Reactive Strikes but I can also Leap before or AFTER the Spell is cast, meaning that I can close the distance between myself and an enemy after Casting Untamed Form, which effectively extends our Reach to absurd quantities. ESPECIALLY good given that I'm not taking Reactive Strike and wanna get at least 1 hit off every Round before doing other stuff.

(Okay, now for the Size-Changing): Size-Changing Rune allows you to, for one Action cast a 2nd Rank version of Enlarge or some version of Shrink (idk which), increasing your Reach to 10 Feet. Combine this with Maneuvering Spell and I'm HOPING I can get 2 or 3 people (including my own Character) with Moment of Renewal to get some value on it even without Reach Spell (my build is kinda tight). Absurdly stupid thing to combo, very funny. Hope my character doesn't die before I can use this xD

Some honorable mentions (and a thank you to my Bard!): Voicebox is basically Shapespeak Mask but better. Healer's Gloves are amazing and cheap, only 700 for the Greater version which gives a +2 Bonus to Medicine checks of ALL kinds. Handwraps are necessary, but if I can get some Amphisbaena and convince my GM to let me put fundamental and Property Runes on them then....well they seem good! Druid's Crown and Living Mantle make a cost-efficient set of +2 buffs, variable depending on the situation. Shadow Signet is unnecessary but cool, and I might want it. Uncanny Dodge from Shadowdancer is STUPENDOUS when combined with Dodge Away, or at least good at enabling it, and frankly Dodge Away combos well with Floating Shield well.

Since my Character has Crafting but not much in terms of investment, Mending Lattice is a must and I'll be happy to get it when we're a higher Level. I'm also eyeing Sash of Prowess for later levels, not because I'm gonna invest in Athletics much but because it's got a bonus to Acrobatics as well (also the other good Acrobatics items are boots or cloaks). Saurian Spike will certainly be nice, but again MUCH later Level. Eye Slash is already awesome with Greater Darkvision, and takes up no slots save Investment. Heavy Armor goes without saying, but I'll still shout it out (unfortunately it'll be a bit before I have some but WHATEVER). And who could forget Sleeves of Storage, or Spacious Pouch?! I do have plans to use Staves, after all.

Oh, honorable mentions for Spells: Mountain Resilience, Draw the Lightning, Gentle Breeze, Wooden Double, Wall of Wind (lots of guns in this campaign), Sliding Blocks, Coral Eruption, Entangling Flora, Rust Cloud, and all the Rank 1 Reaction Spells! Goodness they're exceptional. I particularly wanna pair Interposing Earth with 3 Action Spells.

And if YOU have any suggestions as to how I can make my character better at Frontlining, Battlefield Control or simply having fun then throw 'em down because while I'm not out of ideas, I do lack experience in High-Level play!
