Punjab urial, the provincial animal of Punjab

The Punjab urial (Ovis vignei punjabiensis) is a subspecies of urial (wild sheep) that's endemic only to northern Punjab. As of 2021, there were around 3,500 Punjab urial present in Punjab, mainly in the Kala Chitta and Salt ranges. Its conservation status is considered vulnerable by IUCN.

Endangered species day

Pakistan has diverse habitats each has habitat has unique combination of flora and fauna. Today many of these are declining due to many human activities like deforestation, hunting, urban expansion, pollution etc.

Some endangered species of Pakistan are (EN=Endangered, CR=Critacally Endangered.

  1. indus river dolphin, Platanista minor, EN

  2. Indian Ocean Humpback Dolphin Sousa plumbea, EN

  3. Arabiam sea humpback whale Megaptera novaeangliae Arabian Sea subpopulation, CR

  4. Indian pangolin, Manis crassicaudara, EN

  5. White rumped vulture Gyps bengalensis, CR

  6. Great Indian bustard Ardeotis nigriceps, CR

  7. Gharial Gavialis gangeticus, CR

  8. Whale shark Rhincodon typus EN

  9. Largetooth sawfish Pristis pristis, CR

  10. Golden mahseer Tor putitora, EN

These are just a few species that are fighting extinction, the least we can do is raise awareness.
