A message to the community

I'm a frag-head who has collected over 250+ articles over the last decade or so. In the last couple of years, I got introduced to local houses by a friend, and my perception about perfumery changed quite a lot. I have been a part of many different communities on Facebook, such as PFC , Pakistan scent societies, etc. Some of the houses I have tried are Arome, Enchante, Balasmico, Scents & Stories, Sesky, Rawaha, and many more. However, in the last 2 years or so, I have noticed that the fragrance community, along with fragrance houses themselves, are becoming toxic. Perfumery has lost its essence, with both brands and consumers increasingly focused on 'numbers.' This is reflected in terms like '15+ hours lasting,' 'bomb,' and 'beast mode.' The community as well as the fragrance houses are equally to blame for this:

The community: I don't understand what's the obsession of applying something that lasts for 20+ hours. The goal is to apply something that SMELLS GOOD and only after that criteria is met, projection, sillage, and lasting matter. I feel like people don't really care about the notes or scent itself, and we have entered into a rat race of 'kis house ka perfume ziada last kerta hai'. Also, if you're applying a fresh fragrance, how on Earth can you expect it to last for 20+ hours man. Local houses are selling these articles for 3,000rs or so. If you feel like you can no longer smell the perfume after a couple of hours, just reapply. Reapplying the perfume with 4-5 sprays is not going to be the end of the world. This constant pressure on local houses for 'performance' , 'projection' , 'sillage' ruins the entire point. Houses start pumping up the oil concentration, and while on paper it might sound good, it actually makes the matter worse. You might be able to smell the perfume on your shirt for much longer but it won't project as much. There is a reason why brands have a balanced concentration.... more doesnt always mean better!

The Houses: The houses need to tone it down a bit with the marketing. 20+ hours lasting, 'khushbu chipak gayi hai' needs to stop. This creates unrealistic expectations for the community, which sets an unrealistic baseline standard of a perfume lasting for 15 hours. When they actually receive the article and there is no 15-hour projection that was promised, the member loses his shit and starts ranting on the group. The member does not make any future purchases from the house, and the house loses a customer, all because of overpromising. The member then jumps on to another house and has the same experience. The irony is that the article might be great in terms of the profile, sillage, lasting, and projection. Because of the unrealistic promises made by the brand before the member got the article, it eventually leads to the brands demise.

Conclusion: Try out different articles from different houses, and if you're purchasing a fresh article, please donot expect the projection to be more than 6-7 hours and that too with atleast 10 sprays in this heat. Focus more on what actually smells good/gets you compliments rather than what 'projects' more.

Summer Female fragrance

I am too much confuse..

I want to give a good summer fragrance to my girl as a gift. But I can't decide. She likes unisex fragrances with some oud/musk touch.

Any recommendations from Middle Eastern houses.

Budget: 10K

French avenue Vulcan fue review

I recently bought this for around 8500 PKR. I originally wanted to get Armaf Odyssey Mega, but my brother convinced me to buy this instead, so here’s my honest review.

To me, it literally smells like raw mausambi , very sour and citrus-heavy. The opening is actually really nice, but after a few hours it becomes dull and boring. The performance is disappointing too. I’m getting around 3 hours on skin and maybe 4–5 hours on clothes. It doesn’t even last an hour in the gym.

I’ve used it around 5–6 times now, and honestly, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who prefers long-lasting fragrances. Maybe it’ll improve after macerating for a few months, but right now the performance is pretty weak.

Need suggestions!!

I’ve been thinking about starting a very small perfume project and wanted honest opinions from fragrance people here.

The idea is to focus on just ONE fragrance first instead of launching multiple scents. Personally, I really like Janan Sport, but lately I’ve seen a lot of people complain that the newer batches don’t last long at all.

So I’m considering making an inspired version with the main focus being performance and affordability.

Plan right now:

50ml bottle for around PKR 1500

Extrait concentration (around 35–40%)

Targeting around 7–8 hours performance

Small test batch of only 10 bottles initially

Minimal branding/packaging in the beginning to keep costs low

More focus on juice quality than fancy presentation

I’m not trying to create a luxury brand overnight. I just want to test whether people would actually buy a well-performing fragrance at a fair price.

Do you think this is a good idea?

And are there any other fragrances you think have strong demand but weak longevity/performance where people would appreciate a better-performing alternative?

Would genuinely appreciate honest feedback and suggestions.

An underrated scent

Alright so I'm not that big of a fragrances expert or enthusiast or whatever y'all call it. There's this one fragrance that I have and really like.. The name is maahir lattafa.. It's actually really really good but I haven't seen like anyone talk about it. Yeah that's it ☝🐱

Enchante perfumes. If anyone has faced the same issue please do let me know. People underestimate the power of Reddit.

This is my honest take on Titan, maverick, and blue lumiere
