Heart palpitations worse
Today has been 3 weeks since starting 150mg of Wellbutrin xl and the past couple days I noticed my heart palpitations were getting worse. Tonight being the worst with the skipping beats and pounding sensation every few minutes. I have a few things wrong with my heart (inappropriate sinus tachycardia, occasional PVCs and PACs and a chronic pericardial effusion) that I’ve been diagnosed with for years. I also think it’s important to note that I have hypothyroidism (Hashimotos) and my pcp increased my levothyroxine dose at the same time I started the Wellbutrin to see if that helped me lose weight. I stopped the levothyroxine 2 days ago because I thought the palpitations were from that since the last blood draw was already showing borderline low TSH before the increased dose. I also have cut out caffeine since starting the Wellbutrin but did have a soda today so I’m not sure if that’s contributing to it or not. Now I have an ache in my back/shoulders but normal O2 and pulse at 55-60. I really don’t want to go to the hospital since I’m a frequent flyer there but it’s not getting any better and I’m really trying everything I can possibly think of to relax and it’s not helping. My cardiologist knew I started taking this when I called to report I was cutting my metoprolol dosage in half due to extremely low blood pressure and heart rate once starting the Wellbutrin (had no idea it increased the amount of metoprolol in my blood stream and was in the hospital for that as well). So I feel like if she was worried about me taking it she would’ve said something, right? I’ve seen a few others post about heart palpitations while on Wellbutrin but nothing really relating to my situation. Any advice or similar experiences are welcome. I have a follow up with my pcp next week and I’m logging my symptoms until then.
