All of the songs by Haunted Shores before Viscera (2018)

I had to do a ton of digging, but I ended up finding all their songs. It's organized by albums in a Google Drive folder. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1eiwQ-8pg410pK5h8LMkS0DiNjUhbp7Au?usp=drive_link

Bonus, not lost, but a rare find: live video of them from 2007! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRQxAFA2Mqc

These songs were lost when MySpace wiped out everything from the initial release to 2015, but I found the songs using archives and videos.

Started as a full-fledged metalcore band led by Mark Holcomb. When Holcomb joined Periphery with Misha "Bulb" Mansoor, Holcomb intended to end the project, but the project was revived as a progressive metal studio-only project between Holcomb and Mansoor.

apology

made this tier list a while ago... and ive changed my opinion SO much.

wax wings is LITERALLY the best song of all time, and no one will ever change my mind. i have no idea how i didn't like it before.

also scarlet is not overrated at all. its a great song and is really and very much having the gooding-ness.

and also silhouette and crush don't suck tbh. i haven't really listened to catch fire that much tho so i don't have any new opinions about it. dying star tho... it honestly just makes me transcend at some parts, especially the cool mrak riff in the middle.

zagreus is ok... the chorus is just kinda annoying to me still lol. and chvrch bvrner isn't as good anymore as i used to find it.

in conclusion, IM SO SORRY FOR MAKING THAT ATROCIOUS RANKING IVE CHANGED MY MIND PLEEEAASE FORGIVE ME

APWD and why I hate it

... when people complain it is not progressive enough and compare it to the P1-5 series.

  1. They disclosed it would be a concept album about loneliness and that it would not be like their P series, and that it would be more straightforward. So there should have been zero surprise.
  2. The two singles they released demonstrated their point. Two incredible songs that packed a huge punch in a small amount of time, with no time wasted (such as a 2 minute orchestral outro). Everyone Dies Alone may not be Wax Wings, Reptile, Marigold, but in that short amount of time they packed in so much and when that song came out I knew the album was going to be great. And Mr God has only become more addictive to me now from when it first came out.
  3. The songs on the album may not be as "proggy" in some aspects of the term but it still contains a lot of progressive elements such as jazz-influences, alternative tunings and time signatures, songs that build up slowly with each new verse and end with a powerful and emotional finale, a range of different styles and sounds (Subhuman and Neon Valley, if you didn't know the band you wouldn't think it came from the same people), often very experimental (I've never heard anything before like Obsession: Depeche Mode mixed with black metal), all while still keeping Periphery's signature sound, riff-styles, heaviness mixed with poppy-ness, and raw-emotional grit. For those who miss the 2 minute outros just make a playlist and put some classical music in between each song.
  4. Fine if you just simply don't like the songs, but why do they need to meet your expectations with what they decide to do? What I don't think can be argued is that they did push new boundaries and they created something incredibly unique and unlike other albums coming out within the genre. If you simply don't like the songs, fine - but no need to post about why you're so depressed that you can't compare it to Hail Stan or Juggernaut.

Sorry if this was already hashed out when the album first came out and that I'm relitigating an old case, but I'm seeing the same complaints about Haken's new EP so it is making me relive APWDs controversy.

I know its now been several weeks since the release, but this album still has me captivated and I am still listening to it on repeat. ERRA's SOTE had me somewhat there as well, but I haven't listened to that in full since APWD came out and even though I still cycle through other bands, I keep coming back to APWD because after a few hours I find myself missing it like a best friend.

And to end on one other complaint - why is it that every new song and album that comes out from any band gets compared to Sleep Token? Only seems to happen with Sleep Token fans, are they all so obsessed with their masked men that every other song must have been inspired by them? They're doing it now to Haken's EP just as they did with APWD. I wish there was a setting where I can just block any post that contains the words Sleep and Token.

flatline playthrough is FAKE????

who knew??? i caught him faking in a playthrough. i checked through the comments, and somehow no one noticed besides me.

at 37 seconds you can hear him SLIDE one fret up, but he skips strings to play the note, but you still hear the slide...

and also, at 46 seconds, you can hear him SLIDE 3 frets down, but you see him play it as a pulloff 🤔

and those are only the things ive found... i bet if you watch through the whole thing with good headphones and on a big screen, there will be a bunch more obvious fake spots too

i don't know why they would do this, they don't seem like a band that would, but do yall have any thoughts

What am I hearing in this performance?

So, in preparation for going to see Periphery in November I’ve been jamming out to their Live in London record. At this point in Marigold 2:35… what the fuck am I hearing? I can’t tell if it’s a combination of Spencer and a high guitar tone, or is that noise all Spence? It sounds fucking insane, that’s all I know. I’m pretty sure that is purely from the pipes of our boy Sponcer.

Time between Juggies and P3

Does anyone know why the release dates between these two was only a year and a half? Always found that interesting, as since then it’s been an album around ~3ish years.

I thought I remembered reading something back around 2016 saying Sumerian wasn’t thrilled with Juggernaut and wanted another P album after the concept album, and that was one of the reasons the band split and formed their own label, but I could be absolutely making that up.

Also these two (really three) albums rock - glad it worked out this way.

Thoughts on P4-APWD

I absolutely love P-3 and Juggernaut A&O. I think those project are amazing. I fell off on the band when P4 came out but recently got back into the band after the latest album and am seeing the potential in P4&5 but the newest album isn’t hitting. Maybe I just need time to absorb like with 4&5?
