Love/Hate Piano Marvel
I keep going back to Piano Marvel because I love how their software works and having the ability to upload my own (beginner) pieces. Playground Sessions--no wait mode? Pass. Pianote--no midi interaction? Pass. But Piano Marvel is frustrating. I get it that I'm not their target audience, but it's off-putting how they don't seem to care at all about self-directed learners. Here's my main gripe though. I've been practicing number 17, G major to G minor, of the method 3c section for the last four days. Over that time, I've logged nearly two hours and over 330 attempts. On the last one, I got 100% at 60 BPM. That should feel good, but "last score" and "best score" still show zero, which feels like crap. At tempo for this piece is 80 BPM, and until you play at full tempo, no score is recorded. Having a go at 80 BPM and being satisfied with whatever I get doesn't feel right, and I don't want to spend the time it would take slowly working up to full speed. Aside from the speed, I feel like I've grasped what I needed to grasp from it and am ready to move on. I get it that there should be some differentiation between people who can play it at temp (everyone else) and people who can't (me), but looks like they could cap the score at 75% or something just to give the tiniest little dopamine hit rather than totally slamming the door in one's face.
