It will work out!!

Hi all, had PR for 6-8 weeks and although when I had it it never seemed like it would be the case, it really does go away, so stay positive!!!!

I avoided hot water, took lysine and did nothing else.

It’s a long term thing so on about week 4 I said to myself I needed to stop worrying about it and stop checking it in the mirror every day. I had it on my arms and my trunk. The less I ‘cared’ about it the lower my stress was about it which definitely helped.

I went do a doctor on week 5/6 and she said it was slightly starting to fade. Hearing it from someone else who doesn’t need to be kind to you to make you feel better felt great. I’d recommend it if you feel like you’ve seen even a smidge of progress. It feels great to be told by someone else.

It can be hard to come to terms with it but it really does fade away. Give it time and you’ll be over it in no time. Let me know if you have any questions 😃

PR on Olive skin

Hey everyone ! I just wanna say PR is the worst thing ever. So I know how all of youse feel !

I had a very severe case where my herald patch started on my inner right thigh, and after 2 days my body was fully covered. My armpits, arms, torso, back, neck and inner thighs have been affected. Luckily my face, feet and hands wasn’t affected at all. My dermatologist definitely confirmed it as Pityriasis Rosea. Mine came without a cold or flu but since I have mild eczema it exacerbated the itch. I’m 2 weeks in and the first 7 - 10 days were genuinely hell, itching non stop and sleepless nights… but it gets better, you got to moisturise, apply itch lotion and sun bake !

I’m at the point where my skin pigmentation is purple and brown, but I can see my areas clearing which is always a good indicator.

Products I used to subside my itch sensations & Tips:

- Cetaphil Moisturiser Cream ( dry to very dry ) or
- DermaVeen Sensitive Relief Eczema Cream
- Calamine Lotion
- DermaVeen Sensitive Relief Eczema-Prone Skin Bath Soak ( bathe in this once daily every 2nd day )
- Ice Pack or run area under cold shower ( if itch is unbearable )
- Sun Bathe whenever you can the, UV from the sun can help with healing ( optional & not longer for 10 - 15 minutes )
- Wear loose clothes, jumpers n sweatpants are your best friend. They may be inconvenient but they help prevent you itching.
- Take Antihistamines ! Or prescribed medications by your GP
- Drink plenty of water, hydration is key cause the skin will be very dry !

I hope this help everyone, keep pushing through it, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel !!

First time experience

Had a Harold patch I treated thinking it was ringworm for almost a month, now it’s 2 months and I finally figure out what it is and it’s super annoying! Going to try the tanning bed, but I’m grateful to have found this sub!

PR coming back?

I just got this after being done with PR for about 2-3 weeks. Is it a herald patch? It’s not itchy like when I had PR, I would say it’s mild painful. I don’t think I had a herald patch then, only started getting itchy and had tiny pimples all over my core that then spread into wider patches. What do you think? 😕🙏
It appeared on the day that I’m starting traveling and I really hope it’s not PR, please tell me what you think. Is it possible for PR to come back with different symptoms?
-3rd photo is what it looked like when it first appeared yesterday at noon
-1st, 2nd are what it looks today and yesterday night
-4th is what my first PR pimples/patches looked like.

my wedding is in two weeks!!!

my wedding is in two weeks and this is how I look 😭😭😭 I don’t know if this is the peak or not but it’s absolute agony with how itchy it is not to mention how awful it looks. I am so worried it won't heal before the wedding and I will have to look back at this awful rash forever. Just wanted to post here hoping someone would commiserate 💔

pr or ringworm?

I’ve been dealing with PR on my collarbone area for 2.5-3 months now, after my first herald patch there it spread to both of my legs (1 spot on right leg-1 spot on left lef) and in my inner thigh 1 spot. HOWEVER i also have jock itch/tinea cruris(?) rn so i started to think that maybe PR healed on my inner thigh and now it developed ringworm cuz it was NOT looking like that when my PR first spread 3 months ago. Now it looks like ringworm. I’ll def go see my doc tomorrow or other days but for now I need some thoughts.

What do you think? Is it PR?

I suspect it is Pityriasis Rosea... I have had it since May 8th starting with just one spot and it has spread and each one has only gotten bigger every day. They are itchy. No pus, just dry and red. They itch really bad in the morning and hot showers make them mad. They have spread to my thighs and groin too. Any thoughts? I feel hopeless and freaked out😭

I was diagnosed as PR for 2 months and it doesn't seem to fade..

Hi, my skin was very itchy and it had small pimples on my body. I thought it's some kind of yeast infection so I used Ketoconazole but it gets worse. Rashes came up all over my body except my neck, arms, calves, hands, feet and face.

I can't sleep due to itchiness. It was very bad. No Antihistamines can help me sleep at all.

The doctor said i got PR and gave me steroids along with Virus disinfectant / Bacteria disinfectant.

Also, I don't have any herald patches nor fever ..

It somehow better at first after met the docter but the process is really slow. Until now, it's 2 months and my skin is still having some new rashes came up time to time. During this period, There are periods when my symptoms improve and periods when the rash reappears. For example, this time a new rash has appeared on my sides and above my chest.

Now, my daily skincare is

- Johnson shower cream PH5.5

- Cerave lotion moisturizer

- Physiogel Ai cream

- Calamine

- 0.1% steroids cream (i tried to avoid and use less because i've using Torpicorte (0.25% steroid for months now)

My question is

  1. Is it normal that PR will reappear during these times?

  2. Please advise me if there's any tips / lotions-skincares / methods i should try to reduce rashes / itchiness (my itchy gets better. At least i can sleep at night but it's still there..)

I am very stress now because it doesn't seem to disappear anytime soon :( and i don't know what to do..

Thank you for every answers.

And i am sorry if this is against any guidelines..

Herald patch?

I know only a medical provider can diagnose, but just wondering… does this look like a herald patch? It’s on my abdomen. (I took it while laying down, hence the angle). No other patches that I’m aware of. It isn’t itchy, BUT that area of skin had been itchy for a few days.

I’ve had pityriasis rosea once, about 15 years ago. I was in high school and I had to cover it for a dance and I was pretty mortified. I was sick recently with multiple viruses, and I’ve been stressed with finances and work.

Is this PR?

I went to the doctor and she said it was PR. I have a herald patch under my breast that was small then got bigger, then I started getting these spots all over my legs. The spots are now all over the back of my thighs, legs, stomach and back. And now it’s slowly spreading to my arms. I’ve been misdiagnosed before with other issues and am really worried that this isn’t PR. It itches like crazy even with the topical steroid I’ve been using.

PR or ringworm?

One doctor thought this was ringworm but the anti fungal have not helped at all. I went to my gp and they suspect PR but I really can’t tell if I should continue with the anti fungal cream?

Also no belly judgement pls I’m pregnant 😂❤️

More severe on one side

Is it possible for pityriasis rosea to be worse on just one side? My right side has way more spots on my left side. All the photos I’ve seen online seem to be diffused and not favoring one side.

I’m getting worried that it might be something else, but my derm is convinced that it’s PR and does not want to do any more tests. I’m planning to get a biopsy asap but just wanted to see if anyone has had a similar experience.

Does this look like PR?

This was after using permethrin because the doctor thought for a while it was scabies, but it just made it worse. It did start with what looked like a herald patch on my foot, then after a couple of weeks it spread to the rest of my body, apart from my face.

How I killed pityriasis rosea in 2 weeks

Sharing my PR "journey" here in case it helps anyone else.

  • Day 1: What I now know to be a herald patch appeared on my back. Thought it was a weird mosquito bite. Very itchy. It was red, slightly raised, and elongated oval shaped. It looked almost like an inflamed scratch.
  • Day 2: Another weird patch (herald patch #2?) appeared on my neck. Also very itchy. Thought it was another weird bite.
  • Day 3: Rash begins to spread to my shoulder/chest area. Start using Benadryl anti-itch cream, which didn't really help. Started researching everything on the internet, trying to figure out what this is.
  • Day 4: new patches appearing on my legs, arms, butt, stomach, chest, back. Itch is unbearable and nothing seems to help. Started going down the rabbit hole of PR and found this sub, among others. My symptoms matched exactly what others described and most common photos, except some of my rash spots were slightly raised, which was confusing. In hindsight, this was probably from the scratching, which I really tried sincerely to avoid, but I'm not sure I've had anything that felt so itchy in my life and it overwhelmed my self-control.
  • Day 6 (Friday): start indoor tanning bed (12 min - I don't burn easily). Felt like it helped immediately. BUT then the itch returns later that day with a vengeance. Seems to get worse with alcohol. Itch makes me feel like I want to crawl out of my skin, especially at night.
  • Day 7: Rash seems to have mostly stoped spreading, but the itch makes me want to die and wakes me up at night. Start buying and applying every anti-itch product possible - topicals: hydrocortisone, antifungal cream, sarna lotion, cerave moisturizing cream; oral: Zyrtec, Benadryl. Start Zyrtec during the day, Benadryl at night along with topical products. Itch still wakes me up at night, even with Benadryl. Hydrocortisone and Sarna only slightly dull it.
  • Day 8: Continue all the anti-itch products. Family in town, can’t go tanning. Try to hide all the patches. I don’t feel like doing anything but scratch my whole body until it bleeds. Can’t sleep because the itch is unbearable.
  • Day 9: Continue everything above. Tanning bed again. Add 1000mg valacyclovir daily. Itch mostly okay during the day, but have to reapply Sarna lotion religiously throughout the day. Herald patch on back is darker/brownish and flaky. Itch still so bad it wakes me up at night.
  • Day 10: Taking 2000mg valacyclovir. See above. Rash still not spreading more, but itch still horrible and wakes me up at night. Back herald patch very flaky/thin skin on top flaking off. Neck/shoulder patches seeming to get lighter in color.
  • Day 11: Still very itchy and couldn’t sleep through the night. Laid out in the sun for 45 min.
  • Day 12: Feeling less itchy and patches seem to be fading slightly. Could finally sleep through the night without waking up unbearably itchy. Stopped Zyrtec and Benadryl.
  • Day 13: Feeling less itchy and patches seem to be fading slightly. Getting as much sun as possible. Still using hydrocortisone and Sarna just in case.
  • Day 14-19: Getting as much sun as possible and continued tanning bed every 2-3 days when I couldn't get at least 10-15 min of sun. Eventually stopped using hydrocortisone and Sarna lotion when the itch finally stopped. Rash still not spreading, but all original spots from the first week are still visible.
  • Day 20: Itching fully gone, but spots remain. Herald patches are mostly faded, and sort of flaked off for the most part. But other patches are fading slower and still more visible.

What I think was the most effective: SUN. Like the actual, real sun. If you can't get real sun, then tanning/sunbed. I read something about UVA/UVB rays and the tanning bed having vast majority UVB, so maybe that's why. Sarna lotion IN THE FRIDGE was the best itch relief.

What I would do over: Load up on Sarna lotion and hydrotortisone from day 1. Probably push for prescription topical steroid cream and/or oral steroids because the itch for me was so, so bad. (Guess I was one of the unlucky ones.) Start Valacyclovir 2000mg/day from the gate. Start sun/tanning earlier (it was raining where I am during week 1, so couldn't get much sun, and I think the tanning bed was the most effective alternative). Avoid all alcohol, which is hard, because who doesn't want a beer when laying out in the sun?

If you're going through this, I'm so sorry. It was a nightmare for me, and the only saving grace was that I seemed to have kicked it in 2 weeks. You're not alone. Best of luck.

Insecure, sad and wishing for it to resolve

23yr female. For the first time I’m experiencing PR. It started about 1.5 weeks ago. It’s still spreading. It’s all across my neck, chest, stomach and back. It’s slowly spreading on my thighs and scalp. It’s so bad behind my ears.

I don’t want to be social and I’m insecure going into work. I know it’s worse to wear close clothing, but I would rather be wearing clothes from head to toe! O bought some turtle neck shirts since it’s so bad on my neck.

When does it stop actively spreading? When does it end?? 😭

I’ve never felt so insecure in my life! Summer is coming up also! I’m so sad. I feel disgusting and everything itches and is pain

When will it end 😭
