Homemade Canister Filter

Didn't post about this the other day as I needed to clean the pipes.

The canister filters were a bit expensive and also quite a bit bulky I wanted something sleek that could hide behind the globe. So I made this.

The filter media is crushed lava rock. + a bit of filter sponge and fliter floss.

It's all powered by a 5v dc pump.

My guppy tank

This is my first successful tank. It is 2 months old. It is 65 litres waltsad method tank. It has vallisneria, small amazon sword and many water wisteria. It has a hang on back filter with custom sponge and activated carbon filtration. I removed the in built cartridges. I keep light on for 6-7 hours daily.

In past i have tried this hobby and had glass aquarium but It didn't work, they failed multiple times and it was very expensive for me to get all that aqua soil, plants and medicine and fertilizer. I gave up but then I thought let's give it a one more try and this time let's do in a container rather than buy expensive glass aquarium and this time it worked.

I have hb guppies and 1 cobra skin guppy. All are male. And I have put in 4 trumpet snails too. I will add some red dumbo ear female guppy later. Because I want to create new strain. It's an idea I got after I saw YouTube videos. I thought I want to try this and so I will.

As you can see i haven't wipe out the walls. Because I notice my guppies eat the stuff on wall. I feed my guppies 2 times a day. In morning I feed guppy bites. And in night i feed freeze dried blood worms.

Thankyou

Female betta attacked another female after pet shop at kolathur said they could live together. I'm s

Hi everyone,

I'm feeling really upset and could use some advice.

I have a small betta aquarium. I accidentally bought two female bettas because the shopkeeper at a fish store in Kolathur, Chennai told me that female bettas can stay together in the same tank.

The first day everything seemed completely fine. On the second day, the larger female started chasing the smaller one around the tank. I got worried and made a temporary divider using the lid from a plastic sweets box.

The next day, somehow the larger betta managed to get over the divider and attacked the smaller one very badly.

I immediately separated them. The larger betta is now in the plastic bag/container that I brought her home in, and the injured smaller betta is alone in the aquarium.

The injured betta is hiding behind a plastic plant. She barely moves, her fins are clamped and won't spread out, and she's breathing slowly and deeply. She just stays in one place. I'm really worried she might die, and I honestly feel terrible because I trusted the advice from the shop.

Unfortunately, I only have one aquarium. I can't afford another tank right now, so the other betta has to stay in a temporary plastic container until I can figure something out.

Does the injured betta have a chance of recovering? Is this behavior normal after a severe attack? Is there anything I can do immediately to help her heal? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I feel really guilty and just want to give her the best chance to survive.

Thank you.

experience in getting fish from abroad

someone is coming from indonesia. has anyone ever tried buying fish from there and bringing it in person on a flight to india?

just wondering what would be the issues, from indonesia, or at indian customs?

reddit.com

why almost every aquarium shop that sells through online is a scam

I ordered fish from multiple online shops. One turned out to be a complete scam, while another didn't ship my order for nearly one and a half weeks. The seller even claimed that the order had already been shipped when it hadn't. After calling every day, I finally received the fish today, but five of them were already dead on arrival.

Why do so many businesses in India seem willing to scam customers? It's incredibly disappointing. All I wanted was to set up a planted aquarium.

Based on my experience, stay away from Freshwater Aquatica and Vijay Aquatics. I'm still evaluating the other sellers I ordered from before making any conclusions.

I would also appreciate recommendations for reliable online stores that sell aquarium fish.

All of the websites I mentioned are running on Shopify, yet there seems to be no effective legal mechanism in India to help victims of this kind of fraud. When I filed a complaint through the Cyber Crime Portal, the response I received was that there was no way to block such websites. It's frustrating to hear that while the government is busy blocking random tweets, websites allegedly scamming customers continue operating without consequences.

It's just sad that it has become so difficult to know whom to trust.

Delhi NCR – Looking to rehome a few healthy community fish to an established planted aquarium

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to rehome a few fish from my 3-year-old mature low-tech planted (Walstad) aquarium. The fish are healthy and old now.... I'm simply moving towards a lightly stocked, more ecosystem focused setup since its hard to maintain this since im in college now.

Fish available:

  • 1 Siamese Algae Eater (its maybe 4in now)
  • 5 Platies (if someone wants the whole group)
  • A few older tetras (prefer to discuss depending on your existing schools) -2 cardinals,2 black pahntoms and a single ember tetra remain from my older schools... each of these are 2-3 years old atleast since i bought them then

I'm not selling them...I just want them to go to someone who:

  • has a mature, cycled aquarium,
  • understands the requirements of these species,

The SAE will eventually need a spacious aquarium, so I'd prefer someone who already has an appropriate setup.

Pickup preferred in Delhi NCR (i can porter it to you - it will be great if we can split/share that cost - open to negotiate). Please send me a photo or brief description of the tank they'll be going into.

I'd much rather they go to another hobbyist than a pet shop. PFA image of my tank

Thanks!

What can stock with betta imbellis in 5 gallon

I custom-built this 15 × 13 × 7-inch tank and want to create a shallow, heavily planted setup like the AI-generated image. I'm planning to keep a Betta imbellis and would like some advice on suitable tank mates and stocking.

Budget 3 ft planted tank in Bangalore – need recommendations

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to build a 3 ft low-tech planted tank from scratch in Bangalore. The goal is a lush planted tank without CO₂, using a simple filter and light. I'll probably keep small schooling fish and some shrimp.

I also have an S-shaped piece of wood I'd like to use as the centerpiece if it's safe after proper preparation.

Looking for recommendations on:

- A good place to get a custom tank made.

- Best shops for plants, fish, and shrimp.

- Budget-friendly substrate and lighting.

- Whether a dense planted look is realistic without CO₂.

Any tips or store recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The tank is ready and full of shrimps now. Time will tell if they grow into a huge colony.

All tests conducted and showed 0 in all. PH between 6-7. The Honey Gouramis are hiding. I found a bonded pair and couldn't resist.

Stay away from TropicalZone.in

This is a fake seller. I got scammed believing the google reviews. Placed a high value order looking at thier website. It's been 3 days and they have not shipped. Tried reaching them but they are not responding.

Stick to local physical stores. Lesson learned the hard way.

Edit: got an update saying it will be shipping tomorrow.

Edit : Seller has shipped the items. Will update on the condition of plants once I recieve.

Why's it turning brown?!

I'm using a 16W bluepet clip on light for my 30g tank and all the other plants are doing well but this one's kinda dying, I've checked the parameters they're all good.

Sunlight

here's my 25-gallon planted tank..it’s stocked with only Vallisneria gigantea for plants, along with 10 red eye tetras, hundreds of cherry shrimps, and one golden chinese algae eater.

I know the scaping is not the best, but I was going for a natural/jungle type look.

It doesn’t look too bad, right?
