Hey Reddit, I’m Joe Budden.

Most people know me from music, podcasting, and years of having conversations about culture, but one thing a lot of people may not know is that I've always been fascinated by true crime. I've spent years trying to understand the stories behind some of America's most talked-about crimes.

That fascination led me to launch my new podcast, Crime in America, where I take a deeper look at criminal cases, the people involved, and the larger questions they raise. Whether it's a shocking crime, an unsolved mystery, or a story that changed a community forever, I'm interested in exploring what really happened and why these stories continue to captivate so many of us.

I'm here to talk about the new podcast, my interest in true crime, and anything else you're curious about.

I’ve been working on a bit of an experiment: a podcast award judged by podcasters themselves.

Unlike most podcast awards, there’s no entry fee and no traditional judging panel. Instead, creators who enter review other podcasts using the same structured criteria. In return, every participant gets evaluated by fellow podcasters and receives actual feedback on their work.

The idea is simple: you don’t pay to enter — you contribute by reviewing others.

I’m calling it the Open Podcast Awards, and I’m currently putting together the first group of podcasters to take part.

Curious to see where this goes.

We’re looking for people who have lived through something they can’t forget.

Maybe you’re older and have a story from 30, 40, or 50 years ago that you’ve never really had the chance to tell.

Maybe you’ve walked the road of recovery and want to tell the story of how you got there — and how you found your way back.

Maybe you’ve experienced something strange, unexplained, or impossible to forget.

Maybe you survived something that changed your entire life.

You don’t have to be famous.

You don’t have to be an influencer.

You don’t even have to think your story is important.

If you’ve ever said:

We’d like to hear it.

I host The Garage Mind Podcast, and I’m looking for down-to-earth people who want to have a real conversation.

I’m not looking for business gurus, life coaches, course sellers, crypto dudes, AI agency people, or anyone trying to turn the episode into a commercial.

I want to talk to regular people who have lived some life and have something real to say.

Blue-collar workers, drivers, mechanics, union people, fighters, veterans, first responders, tattoo artists, cooks, bartenders, Harley riders, people in recovery, parents, people with weird jobs, people who have been through hard shit, or anybody with a strong perspective on life.

This is not a gotcha interview and it’s not some fake polished business podcast. It’s a laid-back, honest conversation about life, work, mistakes, struggle, purpose, family, passion, and whatever comes up naturally.

You do NOT need a huge following, a book, a business, or a brand. You just need to be real and willing to talk.

The show is recorded remotely through Riverside, so you can join from wherever you are. Chicago/Illinois people are a bonus, but I’m open to anyone.
