didn’t pass up lae …

I didn’t pass the UP LAE, and nagkataon my dad started having problems sa work nya. UP was my last chance bc mas mura tuition compared to other good univs. Kaya naman sana ang tuition sa san beda or ust bc of my Latin honors discount, pero hindi kaya ng konsensya ko na makadagdag pa sa financial problems namin. (hindi ko rin kaya maging working student bc of my health condition hayst)

For almost 2 years, I’ve been working in a mid-sized corporate company ( not even related to law, government/PolSci degree) Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful because okay naman yung salary, but honestly, I feel so left behind and naiinsecure whenever I see my batchmates :((

While working, there are days na gusto ko talagang umiyak because I really want to pursue law and feeling ko im too late na.

Right now, my plan is to take the LAE again next year and wait until maging stable ulit job nh dad ko and save money na dinto help prepare for law school financially.

To those who entered law school later than their batchmates or anyone who wants to share their thoughts, I’d really appreciate hearing from you. I just really need a lending ear right now :((((

Should I wait next year or take the chance this year

I took 3 law entrance tests this year. UP, Ateneo, and San Beda. Di ako nagulat that I didn't pass the first two since 2 weeks lang aral ko for both since mas naka focus oras ko for the CPALE.

However, I did pass SBU and plan on applying to UST after my board exam.

My brother says I should try again next year since marami naman daw siya classmates na twice nagtake ng UPLAE. My father says I should just go for UST now since mataas naman passing rate nila. There's still a weight of doubt since both are from UP, but have contradicting opinions. Personally, assuming I pass the CPALE, I was thinking of working for a year muna to gather experience for my resumé as a contingency in case I fall off from lawschool.

I'm also aware that if nasa top 20 ka sa UP/ALS, hahabulin ka raw ng mga top firms like Sycip, QT, ACCRA, CMT, etc., and that access to said firms provide major initial financial incentives for a new grad, unequivocal experience, and are heavy hitters on your resumé once you've accumulated the experience to leap. From a more grounded perspective, assuming di naman tayo naghahabol ng top 20, are the opportunities of an average UST/SBU student the same as that of an average ALS/UP student? My main consideration to not proceed forthwith are the high attrition rates of the former, and that if bumagsak ka raw, di na pwede mag apply sa latter.

Do you guys think I should I take the chance with SBU/UST or should I just work first and then try again for UP and Ateneo next year? And what other factors or nuances do you guys think as students/alumni of the said schools or may legitimate second-hand information about the said schools should I take into consideration for this decision? Thank you!

SBU COL

There's this section sa SBU, sa 1L (B) na nakaka-strike 2 na ng ch3ating incident. First, nung midterm exams. Second, sa quiz sa isang subject.

While we understand their desperation to get high grades given the highly-competitive retention policy of SBU COL, it's really frustrating that they are not learning from their mistakes and they have been very selfish with their actions.

They are not even a working block. Full-time students sila who get to have more time para mag-aral. Nagkaroon na ng college-wide warning nung midterm exams. Bakit inulit pa ang pag-cheat para lang sa quiz? It's just a 5-item quiz for God's sake. Hindi niyo ikamamatay 'yan.

Hindi niyo ba alam na naaapektuhan din yung ibang sections sa pinaggagawa niyo? Pare-parehas lang tayong may worry sa Retention Policy. I think this behavior already suggests who does not deserve to stay sa red school.

UMAK SOL Interview Tips

Hi! Does anyone here have tips for the interview process? What do the panel questions usually revolve around, and how long does the interview usually last?

Do they ask about the essay submitted with the application, personal background, motivations for law school, etc.? or are the questions more focused on politics/current events?

Would really appreciate any insights. Thanks!

LS while working as a VA

Currently working as a VA and it’s actually my first job. The pay is good kaya nanghihinayang akong e let go. But Beda will start their classes na sa July. Schedule ko sa work is 12pm - 8 pm so mag ka clash talaga sya sa class sched ko for sure.

Any advice? I wanna prioritize law school but at the same time, sayang rin talaga yung pay. it helps a lot eh.

For context rin, my job uses screenshotmonitor so mag base yung working time namin dun, kaya need rin naka open yung laptop and naka move yung mouse. Hindi rin naman umaabot ng 8 hrs yung task kaso yun nga, may screenshotmonitor huhu… nalilito na ako.

UMAK Interview

Sa mga nainterview na employed, did they asked you if you are willing na magresign? Huhuhu mine did not asked me kasi but rather, even asked nature ng work ko 😭😭😭😭 sana may makasagot, overthinking me na baka ayon di me kunin. If ever kasi, magreresign naman na me talaga kaso di kasi tinanong sakin.

how to survive 1L in ALS

just received the acknowledge receipt email of my confirmation fee and i would really appreciate any tips that i could get as to how i could survive my first year in ALS 🥹

for context, i took a gap year (months?) before entering ls so i could mentally prepare myself. i graduated last year with latin honors at dlsu but i know i’m going back to square one, despite having a common “pre-law” program (polisci). i’m not going to pressure myself to do as great as i did in undergrad but rather, i just wish to enjoy all the knowledge i could possibly learn and survive as much as i can.

i’m really anxious about the profs and recits as an introverted person but i enjoy putting myself in situations where i could suffer in exchange of growth (how ironic). i also heard from a friend that intro to law was hard so.. one of my friends also decided to transfer out of ALS and that makes me even more anxious.

i’m also going to be out of the country the whole month in june so i don’t know if i could study in preparation for 1L or if i should just rawdog it and enjoy my time with family and friends before school starts.

either way, i’d really appreciate words of advice or if there are any other existing threads in reddit, kindly just link them below. thank you!

I passed Ateneo Law but want to go to San Beda instead. Am I making a mistake?

For context, I was desperate to get into UP but ultimately failed. I was, however, lucky enough to be admitted without interview to Ateneo Law, but I'm not sure I should go there:

  • Traveling to Ateneo takes 2 hours
  • Ateneo tuition (coupled with the costs associated with getting a dorm) is unfortunately untenable for my family

I have to admit that I'm stupid. I didn't bother applying for financial aid because I knew that even if I were insane enough to sustain grades that merit a full scholarship, the cost of getting a dorm--and in Makati, of all places--would still be excessive for my family. I applied only because I wanted to see if I could even get in, and because I would've been satisfied with even just a tiny taste of what it would be like to be part of ALS.

Regardless, I'm now being pressured to reconsider my options. Going to San Beda would mean negating the necessity of a dorm, lightening the financial burden I place on my family, and removing the overwhelming pressure of achieving scholar-level grades in an already infamously overwhelming field of study. Going to Ateneo would mean higher-quality education, a much more reasonable environment, and very likely better overall mental health.

I'd like to ask for advice. I'm fine with going to San Beda, but others think I should fight for Ateneo. Do you think I'm being reasonable here, or am I making a mistake? What would you do if you were in my shoes?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: I've also read/been told that it's normal for 66% of an incoming cohort to be culled before graduation in Ateneo, compared to 80% in San Beda. How accurate are these numbers? Obviously these aren't hard percentages, and I'll do my absolute best regardless of which school I go to, but I think this kind of information is important to keep in mind nonetheless. Thank you po :)

Retake LAE or Choose ALS

I passed ALS and I unfortunately failed LAE on my first attempt. I was wondering, to what extent should I give up on getting into UP COL? UP COL is my dream school, but ALS is also a great school.

Here are my options:

Plan A: Enroll in ALS and take LAE next year for the second time.

Plan B: Enroll in ALS and not retake LAE.

Plan C: Take a gap year and work while waiting and take LAE and ALSAT next year for the second time. If I fail LAE again, hopefully ALS accepts me again.

Please help me decide and enlighten me since I have no resources to avail a career counseling service.

Would like some advice on this for Ateneo Appeal

So for context I did not make it to Ateneo Law outright and decided to appeal it despite it may be a long shot in the end. Might as well give it a try. So currently I’m composing my appeal letter as of this writing and will probably hopefully send it tomorrow morning. Just would like to know that those who already successfully appealed over the years did you immediately get someone to back up what you said on the appeal letter or you sent it first before looking for a recommendation to back up your statement. Would like to hear your opinion on this

San Beda Law

For context I did not make it to UP and ALS. I won’t be appealing na as well due to reasons I don’t want to be stressed out again so I decided to just settle and enroll in San Beda. What are the things that I should expect when I get into San Beda Mendiola? How is student life there? I know of the horror stories but it did not discourage me to enroll there. Would like to hear experiences of students there that are currently enrolled. Thanks 😊

UP Law interview: Bad copped?

Seeking advice from people who've passed the interview before!!

Is being grilled extensively on one area (in my case, the answer i gave sa lae essay) a sign that i might get cut? Many people i've asked said that their interviews were much more chill than mine (they got to talk about many other parts of their application/profile and they weren't as pressed in their answers), and i'm worried that i'm at a high risk of getting cut especially with the rumor na they'll be cutting down to 200 out of the 351 na na-interview.
