I understand stand the case, I get the whole "you cant just use our IP" but what stops them from just bringing these servers they shut down under the sub model as a whole? Im sure they would make more money, they get to get more dev teams on different takes of the IP but in a more official permission.

Is this just an ignorant question or more complicated then "just hire them"?

Mods, can we just create a mega thread or something for all of these doomer posts? I think people should be able to post whatever they want but it gets pretty tiring seeing so many new posts that add nothing of value (eg. Q: "so do you think ascension will shut down? How long before it does?". A: "no one really knows" /thread). No one really knows what will happen with ascension atm, do we really need hundreds of posts asking the same thing?

Hi, I played lots of different MMOs, but never played WoW. I saw some news about the CoA and it caught my attention. I am out of the loop with all the legal stuff, can you guys enlighten me a little? Like, are we 100% sure that CoA will be shut down soon? Is it worth to play it if we have so little time?

When CoA was even released? I heard it was 3rd of july, but it was long after the lawsuit as far as I know, why would they release it just to close it?

And will the game be fun for a person who has zero nostalgia for WoW? The premise looks awesome, but I don't want to play something that will be closed off in couple of days or weeks. Thank you ^^

System:

- Linux Mint 22.3 (Cinnamon)

- Laptop with hybrid graphics: Intel Iris Xe (ADL GT2) + NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU (Optimus)

- NVIDIA driver 595.71.05

- CPU: Intel i7-12650H (AVX2/SSE4.2 present, not a CPU issue)

- Wine: wine-ge-8-26-x86_64 (community-recommended version)

- Launcher version: 1.0.101, Electron 42.1.0 (from Crashpad annotations)

Problem:

Ascension Launcher.exe starts (shows "running" in Lutris) but never shows a window. After 2-90 seconds (inconsistent timing), the main process (CrBrowserMain) terminates. A Crashpad dump is always generated.

Technical analysis of the crash dump (via minidump parsing):

- Exception code: 0x80000003 (STATUS_BREAKPOINT)

- Always at the same address: Ascension Launcher.exe+0x1E83CD5

- Disassembly at this location shows `call __security_check_cookie` followed by `int3; ud2` on failure - i.e. this is a GS stack-cookie failure (a real stack buffer overflow caught by the compiler's stack protector, not an intentional compatibility check)

- The crash is non-deterministic: with identical settings, it sometimes crashes in 2-3 seconds, other times survives 90+ seconds (race condition)

What I've tried (without lasting success):

1. Fully clean wine prefix, official installer script (win10, corefonts, dotnet48, vcrun2015 - correct order)

2. wine-ge-8-26 (the recommended version)

3. --disable-gpu --use-gl=swiftshader --disable-gpu-compositing --in-process-gpu

4. WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winevulkan=disabled (blocking wine's Vulkan translation layer)

5. Forcing dxgi/d3d11/d3d9 to builtin (instead of DXVK native)

6. LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 (system had mixed LANG=en_US + LC_NUMERIC/MONETARY=nl_NL)

7. Windows version override to win10 (build 18362) - the dotnet48 winetricks verb had silently reset it to Win7/7601 without restoring it

8. Vulkan restricted to only the NVIDIA GPU (VK_ICD_FILENAMES) + __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD

None of the above eliminates the crash - they only seem to (unreliably) affect how quickly it happens.

Question: Is this a known issue? Is there a way to pin to an older, stable launcher build instead of the "latest"/"latest-v2" bootstrap?

Do you any of the new 21 classes have the tame beast like the base game hunter class? asking for a friend.

So far, I've tried Witch Doctor, Stormbringer, and Ranger. I've leveled each to around level 10-15. My favorite has been Ranger, it's like a mix of Hunter and Rogue from retail. I don't usually play rogue classes, but this one really clicked for me. It also has its own crafting profession Bushcraft.

Which class is your favorite?

I have about 25 hours on Chronomancer, both PvP and PVE and infinite spec dps is atrocious no matter what I do compared to everyone, even some tanks. Does anyone have any advice lvl 30+ on this spec?

I'm currently at level 26 and I looking for some guides or tips on recommended specs and talents for leveling PvE/PvP.

I was reading on Discord that it's one of the worst classes out there right now and many disagree, saying it's just skill issues...

Keep any eye on the the cash store if you see DP go to x5 or x10 you know its almost time up.

Just like arms warrior with big, juicy, fat and greassy numbers.

I prefer a melee class, but feel free suggest me every class if it matches the description.

Looking for some advice on a tank for a beginner, Ideally I would like some easy to pick up and fairly easy to play but enjoy flavor to it, so it doesn't get boring.

Reaper, venomancer, wh and maybe guardian all look like solid picks but I don't know enough about them to pick one over the other.

Hey guys I’m brand new to ascension as a whole but decided to give it a try for the new conquest server and I’m a bit stuck atm with what to do. I’m a melee player for sure at heart and so far I’ve been enjoying rune master, reaper, cultist, and knight of xoroth. I have no idea how they are gonna play later and it makes me a bit nervous to lock in on one blind lol. Do you guys have any advice?

I just wanna be able to do solo content if my friends arnt playing other than that I don’t have any set things I’m looking for yet

Hello.

I really wanna try out CoA and download the game,but everytime i try to launch the launcher,i get this error.
I was already looking up something on the internet,but that wasnt really helpful.
So i hope someone here could give me some tips.

Im loving CoA but still trying to decide on what spec to main, curious if balance changes and class tuning is expected, any veterans have an idea?

Im going to main the class i enjoy of course, but just want to have an idea on what to expect moving forward.

SAVE ASCENSION YOU STUPID AUTOCORRECT

I make this solemn vow to the Blizz I once knew, not the one it is now. Wow used to be a massive fan of wow and all it had going for it. It had story, it had art, it gave me something to look forward to every two years! But after Battle of Azeroth was finished, everything has gone downhill or became lifeless. Characters felt hollow, things felt rushed, dear God shadow lands is the first expansion I felt was legitimately BAD, and this is coming from the guy who enjoyed warlords of Draenor. Because of this, I've found my fun in private servers, servers people put time and energy into, and had massive fun in them, starting with turtle wow..... And then you shut it down. Why? Because you were getting greedy and wanted the money they were making, don't even try to deny it. And now, you're trying to go after Ascension, which is practically the pinnacle of Private Server innovation?!... That tears it.

As an artist, that game has my support. It took what has become garbage since Activision took over and turned it into genuine gold again, and now you're trying to turn it into rusted scrap. That's where I draw the line. I am writing this comment now as a petition to everyone to join their signatures (nothing more than a simple "I" in the comments is necessary since obviously you don't want to lose your accounts anytime soon) here not as a threat but as a warning to blizz: If they shut down Ascension, we will shutdown our payments to blizz. Maybe it won't feel like much, maybe only the entirety of the ascension fan base will leave, but as a simple note, I leave this: if everyone who is a fan of ascension leaves, even going by the people who try to play daily, that's 40,000 players. 40,000 players will leave this game, taking their $15 monthly subs with them, and that's a solid $600,000 a month you'll lose in the process. And that's not even taking the larger side of the daily players into account which is around 60,000.

So I leave this.

If you don't want to explain to managers and business execs why the company is suddenly down half a million a month, there are two options for you: 1- create a system that links private servers to blizz so people playing on private servers still have to have a monthly subscription to wow to keep playing, which honestly benefits everyone.

2- drop the lawsuit and forget it. Cause with the amount of backlash you're already suffering from taking down TurtleWow, you're going to drive your business 6 feet under before 2030 at best...
