Why doesn't Proton work with qbitorrent?

I want to be a good seeder. qbitorrent worked perfectly fine with Mullvad. But with Proton, I have to open the tray, open the client, copy the number, close the client, open qbitorrent client, open the network settings, paste the number, press okay, then finally close qbitorrent (or just keep it open for a little bit and watch satisfying number go up😋).

I feel so guilty for not seeding😓. But at the same time, I cba. Why do I have to do everything? Why doesn't it just work? Just work bro. Jeez

Is Proton VPN down ?

I have Proton VPN on my Linux machine

When I try to update is using "sudo apt update"

It returns this message "

Warning: Failed to fetch https://repo.protonvpn.com/debian/dists/stable/InRelease Could not wait for server fd - select (11: Resource temporarily unavailable) [IP: 104.26.5.35 443]

"

I also have tried to open their website, But I cant access it, It returns this message "

The connection has timed out

The server at status.proton.me is taking too long to respond.

"

Is this problem on my side or is it a global one.

Edit : when I tried to post, it said contact the support, I have opened the support webpage, But it gives me "connection timed out"

Making specific websites use the VPN connection.

Hey,

Is it possible to make it so specific websites connect via the VPN?

I already have split tunneling enabled but that is for apps alone.

ProtonVPN appears to be flagged on Saudi Arabia servers

I’ve been using ProtonVPN for the past 4 months with no issues accessing Saudi websites that only work from inside the Kingdom. Over the last two days, though, I haven’t been able to reach the same sites - I’ve tried every protocol available, but nothing works. It looks like it’s blocked now.

I’m currently based in the UK but need reliable access to certain Saudi websites for work and business. Looking for solid alternative VPN recommendations that still work well with KSA servers.

Am I being stupid or paranoid?

Been using protonmail for years as well as a separate VPN service. Last month this service started causing massive throttling on downloads for me so I was thinking of switching to protonvpn and just combing packages.

Before pressing purchase I thought to myself why would I use a vpn service that’s also attached to all my personal information (email). Is this just me being paranoid or am I making the right move?

Thanks

ProtonVPN on GrapheneOS blocks local LAN access even with “LAN connections” enabled

I’m running Proton VPN on GrapheneOS and I’m having a weird issue accessing services on my home LAN.

My setup:

  • GrapheneOS
  • Proton VPN Android app 5.19.16.0
  • Always-on VPN: enabled
  • “Block connections without VPN”: disabled
  • Proton “LAN connections”: enabled
  • Proton “Allow direct device connections”: enabled
  • Android Private DNS: Automatic
  • Home network uses Pi-hole for local DNS
  • Local services use *.home.arpa names, e.g. home-assistant.home.arpa

With Proton disconnected, everything works normally.

With Proton connected, I can’t access local services unless I manually add their IP addresses to Proton’s split tunnelling exclusions.

For example:

home-assistant.home.arpa → local 192.168.x.x address
homepage.home.arpa → local 192.168.x.x address

The hostnames resolve correctly, but the connection itself fails unless that specific IP is excluded from the VPN.

That workaround isn’t ideal because I’ve got multiple homelab services on different hosts/ports and I’d expect Proton’s Allow LAN connections option to handle local RFC1918 traffic automatically.

I’ve also tested with GrapheneOS’s Block connections without VPN disabled, so it doesn’t appear to be Android VPN lockdown causing it.

Has anyone else seen this with Proton VPN + GrapheneOS?

Is “LAN connections” supposed to bypass the VPN for the whole local subnet, or do I genuinely need to maintain individual IP exclusions?

Ideally I want:

Internet traffic → Proton VPN
192.168.x.x / *.home.arpa → local Wi-Fi/LAN

without excluding my whole browser from the VPN.

Proton VPN on OpenBSD

Been trying to use a Wireguard conf built off my Proton VPN account on a ThinkPad x61s using OpenBSD. Their conf is simple, and easily configured from my Proton VPN account web dashboard once logged in; but with PF in the mix I’m having issues keeping connections alive. Anyone have experience with this?

VPN disconnecting after changing network connection

Hello!

Is it normal for a VPN to lose connection and get stuck trying to reconnect after you’ve changed network connection?

Whenever I leave the house and disconnect from WiFi & use mobile data, stuff stops loading on my iPhone, so I have to open Proton VPN to disconnect & reconnect the VPN.

Is reconnecting to the VPN supposed to happen automatically or is it expected behaviour to have to reconnect manually each time I switch from WiFi to mobile data?

Thank you

Is IVPN as secure and private as Mullvad?

I saw a video(from Techlore) putting VPNs like IVPN (and Obscura VPN, AzireVPN) in the same tier(S tier) as Mullvad. There are some countries that Mullvad doesn't support so I was curious about the other three. But after some digging, I found IVPN is the one that offers servers in most of the countries I want to connect to.

Do you guys think IVPN comes close to Mullvad in terms of security and privacy? By the way, I saw lots of folks recommending ProtonVPN as well but it was placed in A tier on that youtuber's list so I don't know about that. Thank you!

Klarna fungerar ej med VPN på?

Hej allihopa!

Är det fler än mig som inte kan logga in hos Klarna när Protons VPN är påslaget ? Även Apple Pay betalningar i butiker har nekats när VPN har varit på :(

Försökte kolla om någon annan har dessa problem men hittade inget.

Tack! 🙏

Ubuntu GUI install won't connect to any servers

I installed the GUI version of proton on the latest version of Ubuntu and it installed fine. I used the guide on the proton website: How to install the Proton VPN GUI app on Ubuntu | Proton VPN

I can sign in to the app and everything works fine, but then when I try to connect to a server I get:

"Sorry, an unexpected error has occurred, please try again later"

It happens with all the servers. Where can I start looking to fix this

Issue with Proton VPN

Got this notification while trying to connect to Proton, "We're sorry, an unexpected error occurred. Please try again". I checked my other devices running the same VPN and they seem to be working fine. Has anyone had this issue before?

ProtonVPN Smart Routing (Not So Smart)

Hi there,

I don't want my traffic going through the US.

I even configured the app to avoid teh US and other specific countries.

The country I want my traffic to go through have direct routing, but it seems to default to smart rouning nowadays (even specifically excluding countries where the smart routing server resides).

That does not seem to be very smart from a privacy oriented standpoint.

I couldn't find an option to entirely disable smart routing. I may pick a specific server that is direct and physically in a country, but that's it.

Suggestions?

ProtonVPN on Linux sucks! (Fedora 44)

Design is awful, half settings missing (comparing to windows).

BUT the main problem is functional - every 10-15 minutes the VPN connection stops passing traffic even though the app still shows "Connected", and only reconnecting to other servers helps (kill switch enabled). Also when trying to change protocol I get endless spamming "Unexpected error" notifications but who cares. Never happened with Mullvad tho.
