Amazon puffer groups

Amazon puffer groups

Hello all, I currently have three Amazon's in a 75 gallon planted tank. (Adding more plants every week). They're still small, about an inch long. I only have three because they have been nearly impossible for me to track down. I recently stumbled upon a bunch at one of my local fish stores but they're currently in quarantine (no one could tell me why but they had essentially no tail. They were incredibly active so thats my only assumption). I know they do well in groups of 6 or more. Could anyone tell me what kind of behavior I could expect with a larger group? The three I have now swim together every now and again but have seemed to already established their own "territories" in the tank (left, middle, and right). They're not aggressive to each other or the other fish for the most part (Corydoras have been nipped a few times and they'll be moving to a new tank once it's cycled).

Update on the bad mood puff

I have a suspicion that my moody blimp is visually impaired. I'm not entirely sure what happened to cause this but I'm keeping a close eye on her and I've stopped making fun of her pouting. I've read that fish have the capacity to regenerate vision over time so I am hopeful. Any advice is welcome

Spotted Congo Pufferfish stopped eating

Hi, this is my SCP in a hospital tank but I had my SCP for about 10 days in a fully cycled tank (50 gallon), got him from a previous owner who’s had him since March. He had a good appetite, and I’ve been giving him bladder snails, earthworms, blood worms, and brine shrimp, alternating every day.

About 5 days ago, he stopped eating and noticed he and molly babies were hanging out on top of the tank so I checked parameters. It was all normal, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates and ph 7.2. I checked the temperature next and surprised the actual temp was 80.9 instead of set temp of 79; I had a tight lid so I thought it was poor oxygen exchange so I added an airstone the next day.

Unfortunately, he still has not eaten even after soaking his food in Seachem Garlic Guard. Currently, I’m deworming with ParaCleanse; he just finished Excel P treatment. I did notice him doing this weird movements in video.

Pls help, dont want to lose this baby.

What kind of puffer is this?

My LFS got this guy by mistake. They’re working on finding out what it is, but can anyone identify it? I’m curious because I have some bigger tanks I’m looking to stock but obviously I want to make sure I can care for it.

Help me pick a puffer!

Hi all! I'm struggling to pick a freshwater puffer. I am working on putting together a 55 gallon, heavily planted tank. I also currently have pea puffers (in another tank, lol).

I love both spotted congo puffers and red eye puffers! I'm currently on a waitlist for some spotted congos, as I know they are not easy to come by.

So, if you could pick, which would you? If you have either, can you tell me your experience? Thank you so much!

I got my Topaz/Ceylon Puffer 5 months ago. Help!

This is how he looks after 1 day of fasting. I feed it 4-5 ramshorn/trumpet snails everyday along with 3-4 earthworms or 1 dubia roach/red runner roach. He is very active and splashes water when sees me coming towards him. I am keeping him in 1.005 salinity and change 30% water every week. He hasn't grown much. Although that could be because I underestimated how much he can eat in the past. I am a little worried that he might have internal parasites but shows no symptoms. How healthy/concerning does his health and routine look?

Parasite under microscope

Keep in mind I have no idea what im looking at but the long ones in my mind are the bad guys and the the grain of rice looking ones are the good guys. The blobby ones are neutral leaning good guys. This is based on what I have made up during my observations.

John has outgrown his time out tub.

End of February I almost lost John, I had no idea why he was sick. I know he was previously treated for parasites so i didn't think it was that. Plus he's over a year old, wouldn't he have gotten sick from the parasites before now? when he got sick I gave him some melafix not knowing what was going on, the next day he had some lumpy stringy white poop. Parasites!! I have him some strong parasite meds, he had a miserable two weeks, I was regularly hauling 5 gallon buckets with a broken finger to keep his tank clean. It paid off and now hes growing at an alarming rate. I also remembered I own a microscope if anyone wants to see a parasite video.

Still glass surfing

Hi! I have had Amazon puffers fir over 3 years now and they still glass surf, I have tried everything to stop it, my tank is full of hiding places, the water quality is good, I have changed the light to a dimmer one. I think I have fixed everything that might be stressing them out but they still continue... Does anyone know what I am doing wrong. It really upsets me that they glass surf, any advise?

Need help with spotted Congo puffer that needs TLC

Hi, thanks for all the great advice in here! A little back info, I've kept fish for many many years. This type of puffer however is a bit new to me. I've kept the old brackish species, and a few of the other common freshwater ones.

I separated this guy after his tankmate beat him up pretty bad. He's been isolated for several weeks, being fed mostly frozen bloodworms, smashed ramshorn snails, plus chopped fresh tilapia (from the store), etc. I don't feed black worms at all.

I've read many of you doing de worming on them. I doubt he was treated before I got him, so I'll try that soon. He's gained more weight, but the gains are very slow. I wasn't sure if it was worms or maybe just damage to his digestive system.

Do you add the medication to the tank water, or just in the food? I can't get him to take any pellets, and I'm not sure how well soaking frozen food works work on getting the medication into his system.

I hope to get this guy back on his feet/fins soon and perhaps as him to my community tank!

He's in a 15 gallon now, there's a little pleco for housekeeping.

Is Jigglypuff at a heatly weight?

Hello! I was wondering if Jigglypuff is at a healthy weight.

I've seen some plumb spotted congos lately as well as some thin ones. So I'm not 100% sure if Jigglypuff is at a healthy weight or not..

I've had Jigglypuff since December 30th, 2025. He was about an inch when I got him.

So far, no health scares.

He eats once a day. About 4/5 big live ramshorn snails a day. I was thinking about buying a few nightcrawlers to see if he will eat those, but I am unsure of how often and how many of them I should feed.

He is in a 25-gallon tank with no other tankmates.

Dragon Puffer Fry

Here is the best close up of the Dragon Puffer Fry I left with the parents. They are all over the aquarium, parents aren't eating them yet, these are on a terracotta pots. I will grab them out as I see them.
