sick of Qantas searches being 90% Philippine Airlines? Where did Qantas, JAL, and Cathay go?

Where have Qantas, JAL, Cathay, and Emirates gone? useless rewards search tool.

Am I the only one completely fed up with trying to find a decent international Classic Flight Reward right now?

Every single time I search for a flight to Asia, Europe, or the US, my search results are completely flooded with Philippine Airlines flights. It feels like 90% of the reward seats on the entire system are now PAL routings through Manila.

I didn't spend years earning Qantas Points to fly an airline nobody wants to use, with multi-stop, inconvenient layovers.

Where are Qantas’s own planes? Where is Japan Airlines (JAL)? Where are Cathay Pacific and Emirates? It feels like they are completely blocking and withholding their inventory from everyday Qantas members. Cathay seems to be hoarding everything for Asia Miles, Emirates has locked general members out, and Qantas seems to be starving the "Classic Reward" seats entirely just to force us onto their overpriced "Classic Plus" cash-equivalent seats.

It is getting ridiculous. We are trapped looking at a ghost calendar for the top-tier airlines, while being shoved onto Philippine Airlines.

Is anyone else experiencing this absolute lack of premium partner seats? How are you actually booking real Oneworld flights without being forced through Manila?

Point upgrade help Syd to Vancouver

Hello Reddit

I have a flight booked from Sydney to Vancouver, the flight is operated by American Airlines

A few days ago I went on the Qantas websjtr and tried to upgrade my flight with points, but realised I was a tad short. Went around to friends and family to scrounge some points up and came back today to try to upgrade and it says I’m not eligible for an upgrade.

Does anyone know if this is an error? Would I still be able to try to upgrade at the airport?

This is my first time moving overseas for work and I just wanted to make it a little special

It finally happened to me

Now I’m not here to shame anybody because believe me I am also not the smallest. But just had a flight on a Dash 8 sitting next to a gentlemen that was quite large and occupied half my seat (aisle).

There was obviously some serious signs of discomfort from both of us before the cabin door was closed and the flight attendants just turn a blind eye to me sitting half out on the aisle, even bumping me when the inflight snacks where being handed out and not offer another seat which there was plenty to choose from.

Yes I could have asked to move but how do I go about it without causing a scene or any embarrassment or discomfort for any other passengers?

Once again I am not shaming this gentleman. I just want to know how to handle it without too much issue.

They rebooked 1 of my multi city flights and cancelled the rest

Has this happened to anyone, my partner and I bought a multi city flight and when one flight had to be cancelled and rebooked because of technical issues, the other 2 flights got cancelled.

Melbourne -> Singapore (Jet star)

Singapore -> Taiwan (China airlines)

Taiwan -> China (China airlines)

A few days before my flight to Singapore I got an email saying my flight had to be cancelled and rebooked due to technical issues, so I went on their portal and engaged with someone via jetstar chat. They were able to rebook me into the next flight which was 4 hours later, things happen, it is what it is. I didnt mind too much.

Fast forward to a day before my Singapore to taiwan flight I check the Qantas app to double check the flight time and both the taiwan and china flights no longer appeared. I quickly call Qantas and the person told me ya the taiwan and china flight has been cancelled, naturally I asked why that happened.... they said the previous person cancelled them and removed them from my booking ref. Anyways the person reinstates my taiwan flight but my china flight is now considered "waitlist". So I asked what that is and they said ohh the system is just syncing, allgood you'll be fine at the airport. I cant really do anything except to accept it, I kept asking for them to change or remove the waitlist status on the app but they couldnt.

While in taiwan we constantly check the Qantas app to see if the waitlist status would change, it doesn't but then 2 days before our china flight it has been removed from the app once again. We call again because something felt weird, the last time it was removed from the app the flights were fully cancelled. We call and she put the flight back onto our booking ref and confirmed the waitlist is allgood aslong as we have a ticket number. So 2 people now have confirmed its allgood and there's nothing much to discuss except to believe them.

On the day we need to catch the flight to china we arrive at the airport early to make sure everything goes smooth and the lady says there is no ticket. The ticket number we have is Qantas version of the ticket number and nothing was ever confirmed with china Airlines. Our heart sank, there was no more seats and this airport was small. We quickly called Qantas and they're like yup just book another flight, we will refund a portion to you. Im like what? You need to refund thr whole cost, you guys did this. Anyways the whole time they said they cannot confirm anything just go buy a ticket and create a claims ticket.... the next flight costed 1.6k for 2 people (2 hour flight btw) and we had to uber to another airport...

We arrive in china and i get my receipts ready to create a claim and guess what... the flight that was "waitlisted" doesn't exist on my booking anymore so I cant even tag a claim against it... I cant call Qantas while in china as I have no minutes but will be returning back to aus next week.

Has anyone else been through this, what is the best path (apart from creating a claims which i will do asap) to get this sorted because I know the customer support is most likely going to make me go in circles.

Does anyone know of QF64 avalbility?

I'm looking for 2027 and can't see any availability from Johannesburg to Sydney, yet there are plenty of flights going there on QF63? Does anyone know why this might be?

MEL->LHR flight changed due to Iran war - double status points impact

Hi, I booked a return flight from Melbourne to London via Perth with double status points in Feb, and then was requested to change to flights via Singapore. Does anyone know if this will impact the double status points I should earn? Many thanks

Low status earn

Genuinely impressed just how little points I earned on a Melbourne to Doha Qatar flight.
Booked and flew Monday in Y.
Earned 20 SC! Same as the domestic leg I flew to Melbourne on the same day.

Given work got the last two seats on the plane this feels low even for economy- given it’s almost 15 hour flight

Requesting CR seats is a game changer!

Honestly, never cared much for being Platinum until I requested some J seats in late Nov. very helpful (local sounding?) call rep. and she tried her best to find me suitable flights (even forced released some Domestic J flights connecting to to the international flights). The forced released flights were also in J for the same points/price base, which was an added bonus

All in all, quite happy with 2 x ADL-SYD-YVR for 18th of Nov 😊

Overall, it was amazing experience for someone that barely flew QF over the last 12 months (just some DSC hops to Singapore and Queenstown + OW trips to Middle East). Platinum is really great value.

Edit: I was also 49 SCs off hitting Platinum back in June and with a quick call, they honoured the difference 😊

Flights added?

Hey all,
I just missed out booking a Jetstar flight Syd to Osaka this morning for January.
Trying to plan a family holiday and there’s bugger all options to book using points to get there and back. Short of going via Dubai for example.
Do reward flights get added back in closer to the departure date? Or once they’re gone they’re gone?

And if I have to use cash, is there an optimal time to get the cheapest fare?

QF5 upgrade chances

Hi all,

I am flying QF5, SYD-PER at 14:05 on 29/8. Before I spring for an exit row, I was hoping someone could check the chances of my classic rewards upgrade to either business or premium economy? I am a lowly silver.

Thanks a bunch!

Frequent Flyer flights disappear when I click on them

When I search, it shows premium economy flights on the Monday and Wednesday are available but when I click to view, I get a message saying the flight is unavailable...

Am I doing something wrong? Is this a glitch with the website? Is there a workaround?

I'm trying to get a premium economy or business class flight from Paris to Perth/Singapore/KL/and nearby cities at the end of June or start of July. There are a few that go via Dubai or Oman, but trying to avoid the region and go via Asia or direct to Perth. Am I dreaming with these dates?

Bid for Upgrade unavailable

Hello Qantas Veterans,

This may be a very stupid question, but, after a bit of googling don't have a clear answer.

My flight QF 219 Perth - London is not eligible for bid for upgrade. My Perth to Paris flight had the option before I made the change today.

Are bid for upgrades unavailable simply because it's a busy route? Or only open to higher tier QFF? I flew QF9 same time last year and managed to snag a business upgrade.

I can classic upgrade for 130k points to business, is that a guaranteed upgrade if there are seats?

Any insight much appreciated!
