Worth asking for points?

Just took a trip from Auckland to Los Angeles and back and it was a nightmare.

On the way to LA we transited Brisbane. Our two hour layover became a 6 hour layover after late arrival of our aircraft and then an unwell passenger had to be deplaned and their baggage unloaded. (This one I'm fine with, it happens).

We were 4 hours late into LA and nearly had our plans ruined.

On the way home, we were meant to transit Sydney, but that flight was canceled due to maintenance issues. We were rebooked through Melbourne.

The flight from LA left one time, no issues there. Flight frome Melbourne was slightly delayed, but nothing terrible. However, when we landed in Auckland, our bags hadn't arrived.

Lost baggage says they were being put onto a flight last night, and will be delivered today.

I'm just feeling a bit worn and like Qantas was responsible for all of this and never offered even some points.

A lot of people have said we shoukd ask for some points, but I'm not sure it's worth it.

***Qantas staff and cabin crew were wonderful and I have absolutely no complaints there****

Trying to organise a flight from Santiago Chile to Puerto Montt for Jan 2027 and I have never seen rewards at the million dollar mark, let alone regional?

Seat selection move, bad?

Hi everyone,

Our flight from SYD to SFO is in a week. The seats in red are our current seating arrangement as a family of 4.

I’m wondering if it would be a good idea to move my 11-year-old from the middle seat to the seat I’ve circled. My thinking is that there’s a chance no one will choose the middle seat between us, giving us a bit more space?

Would you leave it as it is or make the switch? I’d really appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

New to Qantas points

I am a novice when it comes to understanding Qantas points and rewards.

Can I ask - is it worth paying extra here to get the frequent flyer pts and status credits?
I am booking 6 tickets but am also not sure if I will get all of the points for those 6 or on my booking only.

I travel domestically during the year a few times. I am not a regular overseas traveller who needs upgrades etc.

Thoughts?

Green tier and SC

Hey everyone, I achieved green tier on 5 June and waited my 21 days but the option to select SC / points never arrived. Have called Qantas 4 times and have a ticket open so they can look into it. My membership year ended 30 June so I wasn’t able to pick the SC before the membership year ended… My question is, if they manage to fix this and give me the option to select, if I pick the SC will they be credited to the current membership year or last… anyone had this issue happen before? Had read previous posts but couldn’t see any where the option to select was carried into the new membership year… thanks 😊

Flights not ticketed - where to from here?

Booked FF flights in September last year, all under same booking. First flight with Qantas, then Air France and Cathay.
Received full itinerary with each flight showing as confirmed.
While trying to do seat allocations, noticed the other carrier flights weren’t showing.
After a long time on the phone it turns out Qantas never ticketed those flights and we don’t have bookings - but they didn’t notify, refund or issue points back.
Waiting on a call back to see what they’re going to do but we have a big trip planned - flying this month!
Given this is clearly a Qantas stuff up by not ticketing the flights, what are the chances they will get us on these flights?

Qantas Economy: How strict are they with carry-on?

I’m flying from Japan to Wellington with a layover in Brisbane, all on Qantas Economy. I was just looking at their baggage policy and realized it says Economy passengers only get one carry-on item (no separate personal item), and there’s also a carry-on weight limit.

I’ve never flown Qantas before, so this caught me by surprise. I’m used to airlines where you can bring a carry-on suitcase plus a backpack or purse as a personal item, and I’ve also never had my carry-on weighed before.

For those of you who have flown Qantas recently (especially if you flew internationally and on economy), how strictly do they enforce the one-item rule? Do they usually make people combine a backpack/personal item into their carry-on? Also, how often do they actually weigh carry-on bags?

I’m just trying to figure out what I should do. I’ve already paid for an extra checked bag and would really like to avoid paying for another one if I can. We’re a family of three and are relocating to New Zealand, so we’re traveling with a lot more luggage than we normally would.

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you so much!

Point Value - Travel Insurance

I have a trip that had flights booked using FF points and have had to cancel some of the flights. Qantas charged a 6000 point fee for cancelling rewards seat - the fee is covered by travel insurance but insurer has said I need to submit their $ value, according to the provider. Anyone have any idea on how I could get Qantas to value the points for travel insurance?

120k sign-up bonus not received yet?

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has received the 120k sign-up bonus for the Qantas Money Platinum card?

I've spent over $6.5k, met all the requirements, and paid everything off on time. How long did it take for your points to come through? I'm trying to book my flights ASAP.

Update: I have received my 120k point fking cheering now 😂

Green tier - still worth it for 50 SC by November?

As above - I need 50 SC to maintain Silver by end of November, wondering if it's worth trying for Green Tier? Currently have one green tick for the quiz, that's it. Otherwise considering just flying somewhere if I can find a bargain flight...

Can I access the Emirates lounge while flying non-Qantas metal that has a QF flight number?

According to Qantas "When travelling on a flight with a Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) flight number on your ticket". Does this mean that I can access the Emirates lounge in Singapore while flying non-Qantas metal? It's a little ambiguous!

Brisbane international reward availability

Apologies if this has already been discussed recently. Are my fellow Queenslanders as frustrated as me at the scarcity of reward seats from Brisbane to pretty much anywhere internationally?

As an example, when searching Australia to Italy in November in Business, Brisbane has less than 1 page of results (all on janky routes and/or old planes) whereas Adelaide has 6 pages and Melbourne has 10! Sydney had less than 2 pages which also seems very low.

Any tips for the best routes out of Brisbane to Italy? I'd rather not pay to fly in the opposite direction of the place I'd like to go but am not seeing many alternatives.

8 SC Required!

I have 31 days to get 8 status credits to get platinum. I fly quite regularly for work and to US/UK for family.

I will not be able to fly for the next 3 weeks as I’m working offshore. I reside in Perth and it seemed like if I wanted to do a run that maybe Perth to Geraldton was doable but was $600.

I didn’t seem to find anything clear on how to eat SC any other way on the ground or online.

I always get gold easy but now I’m this close to platinum I wanna get those 8 points somehow. I was going to call qantas too and see if they say anything other than sorry we can’t help…

Book with points or wait to upgrade

Hey everyone,

I was just wanting some expert advice from you all! I’m planning on going to the US/Canada at the end of the year.

I’m planning on flying business as I’ve got heaps of points I’ve been saving for a few years so I don’t have to spend too much cash. I’ve looked at the new tool to search point flights but I’ve seen lots of people mentioning bid to upgrade?

What is the best method for booking? Points out right, or upgrading with points (I haven’t done this before as I’m FIFO so don’t ever have the need to, so I’m not sure what the go is? from what I read I assume you aren’t guaranteed to get the upgrade)

Also, I’m happy to travel with stop overs and go on not so typical flight paths if it’s better value.

Any tips, tricks or advice? I’m gold status if that increases/decreases my odds. Also I refuse to fly long haul in economy unless I get the whole row to myself haha, I’ve done it one 10 years ago and I don’t ever want to again!

Confirmed Upgrade Offer

For the curious, (not a question - I already have classic upgrade requested, I am Platinum, and 95% of the time the CU is granted) I received an offer for confirmed upgrade from Discounted Premium Economy fare for a 17hr flight on a 787 in over a month’s time. $4080!

Notification by email, limited time to accept the offer. The offer did appear in the app in the trip, on the particular tab for this leg as well, but no notification in the app. See photo.

The price is below the fare difference, but no bargain, especially considering the cost of straight top-up points.
