Tollyn Maeryn might be my new favorite faction...

Looking more into the rules and lore of Tollyn Maeryn, I absolutely love their scrappy, underdog, militia feel.

I thought it felt familiar, and then I noticed their rhyfles have rhyfle grenades that are similar rifle grenades in Valkyria Chronicles.

Josh has mentioned that Valkyria Chronicles is one of his favorite games- and the first game also follows a militia.

Is this literally the Gallian-inspired faction? 🤣

Gallia, in Valkyria Chronicles, is a neutral nation, >! (and they do fight both opposing super powers in that first game) !< but Maer Braech is a nation that switched sides, which is close enough if you ask me.

This just makes me want a Quar videogame in the style of Valkyria Chronicles even more.

Race inspired by the wargame Quar: Clash of Rhyfles

Image Credit: Zombiesmith.com Clash of Rhyfles: Halloween 2025

As my group's forever DM, I made this mostly for fun and possibly to spring on one of my players if any of them take a turn in the DM chair.

Feedback welcome.

The Quar of Alwyde are an ornery, anteater-like people who have developed from insect-gathering plains tribes into full-fledged nations.

'Pluck' is ripped directly from the wargame, and is the thing I most want to keep, even if that means removing other features.

'Fury of the Small' was included to reflect their anger, stubborn nature. I considered swapping it for the Halfling's 'Brave', but I didn't want to land too close to the Halfling.

Quar 5E race:

Ability score increase:

Wisdom +2, Dexterity +1

Age:

Quar reach maturity at a similar age to humans, and have similar lifespans.

Size:

Quar average 3 to 4 feet tall and weight about 60 or 70 pounds. Your size is Small

Speed:

Your base walking speed is 25ft.

Ranged Weapon Proficiency:

You have proficiency with all ranged weapons. (Does not apply to melee weapons that can be thrown)

Fury of the Small:

When you damage a creature with an attack or a spell and the creature’s size is larger than yours, you can cause the attack or spell to deal extra damage to the creature. The extra damage equals your proficiency bonus. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses when you finish a long rest, and you can use it no more than once per turn.

Pluck:

When you fail an attack roll, skill check, or saving throw by one (1) point, you can choose to succeed instead.

You can use this trait a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus per Long Rest.

Little clarification please?

I’m thinking I have over read what I’m trying to figure out, but what does the (3) mean on the trench raider?
Can someone break down this example on how you would take this class, into a 300 point game?
Also how would the yawdryl trench raider work in the build? Thank you, everyone.

Starting Point?

I've been watching countless hours of content on this setting and people painting these models. I've ventured onto the zombie smith website and wargames Atlantic looking for the rule books and to put matters short, I dont know which rule books are necessary and/or up to date. I want to experience all aspects of this game including tractors and elite units. Do I need them all? Are they all up to date? I hope the veterans of this community can help me out!

plastic Ailthean question - what to do with the "flavor bits"

So I've just put together an Ailthean tractor, and I noticed that on the sprue there are a couple of cool looking backpacks and a couple of sacks with various supplies, including the inevitable and charming baguettes. But I've not seen a single finished Ailthean that uses those parts, and I wonder what to do with them! It feels a little strange just sticking them on there willy nilly, but I'd like to use them if I can. Has anyone else used them, and how? Or maybe hanging it on there haphazardly IS what the crew would do, because it's not like Quar vehicles are super-roomy inside and they need to stow their gear anywhere that works.

What do you think?
