I’m getting bilateral Panoptix Pro on Thursday. +4 hyperope in my 40s for $15k. Honestly I just want to stop watching YouTube videos and talking to ai about this procedure and outcomes. I’ll report back with the results whatever they are.
I know it's controversial but I cannot do this anymore. My vision has declined over the last couple years and my glasses feel like they're getting heavier and heavier on my face and I absolutely hate contacts. I used to be able to somewhat accommodate enough to read a text on my phone or read a menu but now there is no chance. Snowboarding, playing volleyball, and surfing used to be tolerable, but now I cannot see anything well without glasses.
I researched LAL+ pretty thoroughly and was comfortable going through the process, and wearing glasses to read with a -0.25 to -0.5 blend, but when I went in for a consult (with a Dr that does LAL/LAL+) he said that he recommended the Panoptix Pro based on my eyes. Said he put them in his wife, lawyer, and brother... (lawyer! 🤔) He also said I'd be the first 41 year old with LAL in my state ...New Mexico. At first I was a little taken aback, but I still listened as best I could.
I told him that I already have some HOA: significant starbursts around street and headlights and they don't bother me. I need to confirm this, but I think he said that those originate in my lens... so I'm already somewhat prepared for some halos or starbursts I just don't want them to get worse... or at least not way worse preferably.
I feel like he's fine if i wanted LAL, or an EDOF, or whatever really, but he'd been doing trials with the Panoptix Pro for at least a year before it came to market. He said my measurements were relatively straight forward for a non-LAL lens and I should be able to get a good outcome off the bat, and if not a PRK is included in the bundle.
Please help me feel ok about this. I just want to play volleyball, be able to see the weights on the dumbbells at the gym, go snowboarding, etc. The last time I tried working out without glasses I literally had to ask someone in the locker room to put the combination into my lock because I couldn't fkg see the numbers.
They say that the odds are good I'll be satisfied with any of the lens options but that still doesn't make me any less nervous.
The Dr uses the ORA Aberrometry, is highly experienced, and pretty good at what he does apparently, so even though I was fully prepared for LAL/LAL+ in my head I'm thinking maybe I should listen to him... or are his margins higher and he has a better relationship with Alcon? ...I hate to be that cynical...and is that even a bad thing?
I've never had Lasik or any eye issues. 0.5/0.75 asigmatism 170 cyl
Please tell me it will be ok, and that I'll be satisfied.
