I’ve been looking into to an RX7 but I’m afraid that the resources for maintaining might be limited. Finding a mechanic to do apex seal? What are your guys experience?
Video for my last post, turbo spins but not freely and needs some force by hand.
Hey RX-7 owners,
I shared an earlier version of this 3 months ago project before, so I wanted to post a proper update now that it’s grown quite a bit, thanks for everyone who gave feedback early on.
The problem I’ve been trying to fix is simple: detailed builds get scattered everywhere, threads, IG captions, old posts, notes, Google Drive folders, camera rolls, and random chats. After a while, even the owner has to dig just to remember what’s been done.
So I built a structured build page system where each car has one permanent page that can hold:
• Full mod list
• Exact specs
• Suspension & wheel/tire setup
• Power-to-weight
• Dyno numbers
• Shops involved & clubs you’re into
• Organized gallery
• Build updates over time
• Mod tagging on photos, so you can show exactly where parts are on the car
• Build history/timeline, so you can document when you first bought the car, major upgrades, rebuilds, track days, and changes over time
There are already 800+ real owner builds live from different countries, and RX-7s are exactly the kind of cars I think need proper documentation because the builds can get complicated fast.
Here’s one track focused RX-7 already documented:
If you already have a build, street car, track car, or something evolving over time, you can create a page and keep everything in one place instead of buried across posts, notes, and folders.
Would love feedback from RX-7 owners, especially what you’d want tracked or shown on a proper rotary build page.
I installed a GReddy FMIC over the winter and got the car running. When cold, idle is low at about 500rpm, and it stalls if I don't hold the idle at 1000. It's also very smokey. Smoke colour looks mostly white but has a slight blue tinge to it. Smells more like fuel than oil though.
I tested my TPS, and it sits at 1k ohms with the throttle closed and has a steady increase to 5k as I open the throttle. Engine was freshly built last year and has around 6000km (3700 miles)
When it's warm, it idles fine at 13.5 AFR and smoke clears up. Cruising is 14.7, and boosting to 7psi is 11.5-12AFR. no noticable drivability issues and still pulls hard.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I’m troubleshooting a s4 fc n/a that isn’t idling right, idles high, surges, light switch throttle. I still suspect a vacuum leak but there is no indication of one. No hissing noise, spraying starter fluid all over the intake does nothing. Only modifications are an emissions delete and a racing beat header.
Poking around at the afm sensor today I found this (image below) it looks like the spring has been tightened up a good bit based off the scratch marks. From searching old forums I found a post about tightening the spring to lean out the mixture, especially at idle. I know this car failed an emissions test a while back, so this may have been a cheap fix for that. Would too lean an idle cause these symptoms?
Going to continue searching for vacuum issues, but curious if anyone has input on this.
Hello! I’m very new to working on these cars and recently replaced a bad front cover gasket. The car was running great before the work just with a real bad oil leak. After putting it all back together there are way more vibrations, a surging idle, and a ticking noise (see video). As far as I can tell the ticking noise is coming from the air pump which looks to be rubbing up against a part of the block due to the vibrations. I have also not been able to confirm the water pump/thermostat is working correctly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I’m just kind of at a loss for diagnosing the problems.
So I have an old school 13b from a truck and I'm planning to put a 7" Camden Supercharger on to it. The engine was in my FB, but the FB transmission is a little longer. I know the 8's is a little shorter, so I was hopeful I could keep the more stock SA shifter location with using it.
kind of crazy that a year ago they were like 12k max and now there like this.
I just removed the exhaust manifold of my 12a to change some gasket and do (a lot) of cleaning and since I’m not sure if the former owner did a porting or not I’m asking some rotaries veterans for your opinion :)
Sorry for the crappy picture, the engine is in the car and I was trying my best
Can't for the life of me find it.
She is as DOLLED UP as she is going to get (within my budget) this year!
