Sadly White Castle across from the Queens center mall will be closing permanently at the end of this year. What a shame it’s been there for over 50 years. High rise residential building taking its place. Will definitely miss eating there on occasion.
Hi Forest Hills folks - My wife, newborn baby, and I are vacating our 1bd /1bath apartment on July 1 to move to the Bronx for a new job, and we are helping our landlord to find new tenants to take over the remainder of our lease, which ends on Jan. 31, 2027.
We've lived in this apartment for over 2 years, and it's a wonderful space. The apartment is nice, quiet, and spacious (950 sq ft), with great natural light. It has a sizeable kitchen for the price and lots of closet space too. We pay $2600/month. Additional costs would be electricity, gas, and Internet. We're on the top floor (6th floor) of a building on 72nd Ave, right between Austin St and Queens Blvd, so just a few steps away from Austin Street and all its shops, and about 3-5 minute walk to the express E/F/M/R subway stop and the LIRR. I've called Queens community board 6 several times and today also reached out to Council member Gennaro's office for an update about when the building construction timeline should wrap up. From what i've been told, most of the reconstruction work for the building is done. Now the main barrier to re-opening are several permits from various city agencies.
Two months ago I discovered the park behind the building that borders the AT&T building. It has an amazing tree canopy for sunny days and some beautiful landscaping. I'd go as far as to say an urban oasis between 3 very busy roads and the LIE. However there is a lot of trash scattered around and a lot of the seating looks like its not been actively taken cared of for years, if not decades.
Would people be interested in doing a community clean up to make it look nicer? Doesn't have to be anything crazy but just coming out to make the space more inviting. Let me know what you think.
