Shields Reid community center and park public art.

I’m honored to have contributed four stained glass mosaic murals to the newly renovated Shields-Reid Community Center and Park as part of the City of Richmond’s public art program.

Join us for the Grand Reopening Celebration on Saturday, July 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Shields-Reid Community Center and Park, 1410 Kelsey Street, Richmond, CA 94801. Following the ceremony, the celebration continues with the 15th Annual North Richmond Music Festival.

It has been a privilege to create artwork that celebrates the history, culture, and resilience of the North Richmond community. I look forward to sharing this project with everyone who helped make it possible.

beware of this man.

i was getting on bart today. when i’m on public transportation, i have my headphones in. chances are, ive usually had a long day of human interaction and this is my only time to have time to myself. he came up to me and asked me if he could come in behind me. i gave him an extremely polite answer. i said “i’d prefer if you didn’t.” and he got incredibly angry. i went and loaded my clipper card. i wouldn’t have been able to get home if i hadn’t and he found another way in. essentially, i thought the interaction was over. but then i get up on the platform and he’s gone, i don’t even care. i stand there and get on my phone. i’m simply trying to get home but then he comes up to me and starts saying how since im a black person, i should have let him do it and that im a karen because i didnt let him do it. then he kept antagonizing me, calling me a karen. and i lost my shit so i start cussing right back at him. then he tried to flip the switch and say that i was coming up on him and made a big scene in the train because he kept coming back to call me out of my name. he clearly just wanted to have something to say and tried to use my identity against me having boundaries and social preferences. im posting this here because i honestly just wanted people to be aware that these folks exist.

Here for the 4th? Spend the holiday with a foster rabbit! 🎆

Make a difference in the life of a shelter rabbit—foster with House Rabbit Society! Fostering one animal won't change the world, but it will change the world for that one animal. Learn more and submit a foster application today at houserabbit.org/foster. No rabbit experience required! We're located in Richmond, just over the bridge and north of Berkeley, but welcome fosters from all over the San Francisco Bay Area. We only ask for a 2-week commitment.

What We Provide: We'll equip you with all the supplies you need to get started, including an x-pen, litter box, bedding, food pellets, hay, blankets, and bowls for food and water. As a foster, you also receive a 15% discount at the HRS Hop Shop if you'd like to purchase any additional toys or treats while you foster.

What You Provide: The time, space, love, and care your foster rabbit needs, along with their daily veggies (approximately $5-10 per week). Getting socialization in a foster home is so important, especially for rabbits who are shy or have other behavior needs and helping them become more comfortable with people. You can help a foster rabbit blossom into the wonderful house rabbit they're truly meant to be!

Questions? Email foster@houserabbit.org or stop by our facility to talk in-person with HRS volunteers and staff and to meet the rabbits. HRS is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm and on Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm.* We'd love to talk with you!

*Please note, on Saturday, July 4th, HRS will close early at 3 pm for staff to spend time with their families for the holiday.

Downtown Richmond

We just moved to Richmond and for the first time drove to Downtown Richmond where all the historic buildings are near Kaiser. Why is it a ghost town? Richmond has a population of over 100,000 people and yet it feels like no man’s land in some areas. Is the city doing anything to revive the downtown area? I spoke to a few neighbors who’ve been here for decades and they gave me rundown about what Mcdonald Ave used to be like. Do y’all see anything happening in the near future?
