Looking for Nightclubs with Dancing in Richmond

My friends and I are planning a trip this summer in Richmond and we want to find some nightclubs to dance at, preferably within walking distance of each other! We also want to find inclusive spots, so spots that are safe for women, lgbtq+, etc. I’ve been having a hard time finding clubs since I haven’t been to the area much, so any help is appreciated!!!!

Richmond resident speaks at zoning meeting in opposition to Code Refresh zoning changes on the basis that those pushing for “integrated” neighborhoods and “affordability” are being “scammed”.

"... I moved from Atlanta just nine months ago. I lived in a very integrated community and I had delightful friends from all walks of life.  But I don't think that it's going to happen in my neighborhood, because on the way to harming our neighborhood it just simply doesn't make sense.

I think that the people who are falling for this are being scammed, because you're either counting on the price of my house drastically going down - so, thank you for that - or you're counting on the houses being so well above affordability.  And I've participated in affordability project - it does not happen this way.  So, thank you for letting me speak, I am very disappointed, but I think that - I'm hoping very much you'll listen to the comments and there's still opportunity for changing it, right?  Thank you."

---

If you haven't yet gotten involved in Code Refresh, please know that people with the beliefs of the person in the clip have been organizing against it.  Don't be left out of the process - make your voice heard.

VCU School of Dentistry – Accepting New Patients

Hi everyone! I’m a dental student at VCU School of Dentistry and currently accepting new patients. I understand how challenging it can sometimes be to find timely dental care, and I have appointment availability beginning as early as June. My goal is to provide compassionate, high-quality care and treat every patient with the same level of attention and respect that I would want for my own family.

VCU School of Dentistry offers a wide range of services including cleanings, fillings, partial dentures, and much more. We accept most insurance plans, including Medicaid, and treatment costs are often significantly reduced compared to many private practices. We also offer discounted care options for college students in Virginia.

If you or someone you know is looking for dental care, feel free to send me a Reddit DM or leave a comment below and I’d be happy to reach out. I’d love the opportunity to help get you scheduled and connected with care.

First time visitor-Fan District or Shockhoe Bottom?

Hi all! I'm planning a first time visit to Richmond next month and wanted to get some thoughts/opinions on the best area to stay in.

I'm currently debating between the fan district or shockoe bottom. They both seem to have very different vibes from the online research I've done but as a first time visitor which one is most recommended? It's just going to be my partner and I. We are a chill couple, ok with going to bars but nightlife isn't a priority, we are foodies, I enjoy the arts, we moderately enjoy nature based activities so light hikes, and I like most water based activities. We are also not planning to drive so walkability is important to us though we are open to taking buses and ubers/lyfts as well.

Any insights, recommendations, and opinions gladly welcomed!

Note: Before it's mentioned I do not have enough karma to post in r/rva lol

New RVA Arts & Culture Events Calendar

Hi, Richmond! This is Calie over at CultureWorks. I'm writing to share a new free resource to I hope the community will take advantage of!

We recently adopted a new calendar platform to be your one-stop-shop for all things arts & culture in our region. 😄

If you're perpetually looking for something to do this weekend, I encourage you to check it out here.

You can:

  • Filter by event type and date (with more filter features coming soon!)
  • Filter by accessibility options (closed caption, wheelchair accessible, sensory friendly performances, etc.)
  • Explore our region's organizations, venues, and artists, and discover something new!

Additionally, if you are an artist, you can submit a profile listing on the artist directory.

This tool will not only allow other artists to more easily connect with peers and find collaborators, but can connect the community to an artist's work for commissions, events, etc.

You can also find or submit opportunities--think calls for artists, market vendors needed, auditions, jobs, etc.

Happy discovering! Support local art & artists! 😄

Witnesses to accident last Wednesday evening (May 13)?

Just reaching out on the off chance that anyone witnessed an accident on W Broad at N Crestwood at about 8:30 pm. Right in front of the Keymo Vape shop and O’Reillys Auto Parts (just across from Mekong). It was dark and rainy. I was driving a 2017 burgundy Subaru Forester and was hit by a blue RAV4. Appreciate anyone who might have seen the accident reaching out. Thanks!

Artists looking for a good neighborhood to buy a house up to about 400k

Hiya-looking for a good neighborhood to buy a house up to about 400k. We’re a couple in our 60’s, 3 dogs. Both retired, hubs is a metal artist so needs a garage. I like tennis, we both like biking (sport and bicycle). Originally from SF, moving from Maine after suffering through 7 long winters. Hoping to find a neighborhood where liberal artist types are welcome and hopefully not much more than 20 min from the city. Seems like No Chesterfield is a strong fit, but all ears for anywhere else and where not to go, thanks tons!

Local herbal tea artisan in search of Mullein and other common weeds

Hello! I’m have been growing and foraging herbs (some of which you may think of as common weeds). I’m running into an issue of not having enough room to grow them to keep up with my needs.

I’m hoping maybe someone here has a farm or unkept land and wouldn’t mind some weeds being removed from said land. I believe in conservation and sustainability and always leave the environment the same or better than I found it. Mullein is a big one I need but others such as red raspberry, apple/pineapple mint, purple clover, plantains, etc are also common weeds that I would be happy to remove for you.

New here iso friends/hobbies.

I just moved here on April 1. I have no connections to the city. I don’t know anybody nor do I have any family here. All I do is work and I’ve even found myself picking up extra shifts just to kind of feel the void of not sitting at home alone. Definitely looking for people or places or things to go do. 27 male.
