BMC Teammachine R01 Size

Hello everyone,

I’m seriously considering buying a BMC Teammachine R01 Two. It’s obviously a major purchase that will replace my 2012 Felt F1.

I’m unsure about the frame size. For context, I’m 34 years old and a former competitive cyclist, so I’ve always been used to very race-oriented riding positions. I’m 180 cm tall with an 87–87.5 cm inseam. I feel like I’m between two sizes. Do any of you own this bike and have any recommendations for me?

On another note, I tested it with a 36 cm handlebar. Coming from a 42 cm, it felt particularly awkward. So I’m thinking of switching to a 38 cm to avoid too big a difference - what do you think?

P.S.: Here’s a photo of the model I tested; I think the saddle height is still 1 cm too low for me

Roadmachine model / price sweetspot

2026 Roadmachine One with Ultegra Di2 ($4400 US / 6000 CAD) or

2026 Roadmachine Two with 105 Di2. ($3300 US / 4500 CAD).

2024 RM Two with Ultegra Di2 and ICS2 cockpit ($4000 US / 5500 CAD) *new old stock

~1100 US / 1500 CAD seems pricey just for the jump from 105 to Ultegra, that could basically buy me wheels and other upgrades if I was prepared to live with 105 Groupset.

the Roadmachine One has some other marginal 'upgrades' over the Roadmachine Two like wheels and cockpit but those are going to end up being swapped out later anyway. The 2024 bike gets me closer with a ICS cockpit (but not one-piece EVO or aero) and has better wheels for a second set gravel setup later. XRD-522. But it's a 2-3yr old model.

Dream bike would be Roadmachine 01 Two but that's $10-12k (CAD). Any recs for which lower spec model would present the largest cost savings so that I can swap in a decent set of Carbon Wheels and ICS one piece Carbon Eco cockpit handlebars later ?
