help with caption colours please

Hi - I am not a tech Wizz and might be missing something quite simple, but my wife has tasked me with editing some videos for her work. She does small podcast style videos specifically for her client work. When I used to add the captions to videos I could choose and make the highlighted colour a gradient colour, (e.g. we used pride/rainbow gradient colours as a highlight in world pride month, gradient green and red during December for holidays etc) but since the update I can't see how to do the gradient colours to highlight captions. Does anyone know how to do this? Would anyone be able tell me if this isn't an option anymore. Many thanks.

New feature: See your transcript in the timeline

An update to make your editing even easier.

You can now see your transcript directly on the timeline. Words appear right on top of the waveform, so you always know exactly what you're looking at and what you're cutting or pasting together.

No more having to guess where one word starts, or if you're pasting a section after the correct chunk of video. See it all and know what's exactly where.

Here's what you can do:

  • Zoom out to see word groups, zoom in to watch them break apart into individual words tied to their exact position
  • Click any word to select its exact duration, no need to open the transcript panel
  • Shift + arrow keys to extend your selection word by word, or Shift-click a second word to select every word in between
  • See words and waveform together while refining a cut, so you know exactly what's being trimmed in or out

One thing you might notice: the waveform looks a little different. Nothing has been removed, the bottom part of the waveform you normally saw is just mirrored. It's the same information, just a cleaner representation that makes peaks and lows easier to read.

How to use it + how I use it to create my own clips and hooks in the video right here.

weird popping noise?

With the new Riverside editor, I've noticed when I export the audio file (which I need to do for my podcast hosting platform) and pull it into garageband for final touchups, sometimes there's a popping noise that was never there before. any idea what that is or how to avoid it?

Watermark won't go away and "help" email is useless

Like the title says.

  1. Yes I have a paid account

  2. Yes I toggled "watermark off" when exporting.

  3. It only started this morning.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

The so called "help desk" email didn't read my email thoroughly and just told me to use the toggle.

Then they decided to completely ignore my request for customer support and ghosted me.

Edit:

Riverside started looking into it and couldn't figure out why it was happening. Then when the "billing cycle" renewed for the month, the problem went away. The Riverside team still not sure why. They "hope to have it fixed so it doesn't happen again".

Buyer's remorse.

I recently purchased a subscription for Riverside for an upcoming podcast launch. I did so because every creator I admire uses it. The vibe around the current product is not, shall we say...confidence-building. I made test recordings and the interface won't even give me enough vertical space to see the separate tracks. Was it always like this? I paid for a year. I may need to figure a way out of that. Ugh.

Starting an in person podcast

Hi everyone

The alumni group I volunteer for is looking to start a podcast and we're looking to use Riverside. It will be a mix of remote interviews and in person interviews. We've got the equipment for the remote interviews sorted, but we need to sort equipment for the in-person ones.

Its a non-profit group so our funds are limited, so we're looking at 3 Logitech webcams with bluetooth clip on mic's linked via a USB hub to a laptop so we can have multiple angles. For what i've found online we can only use modern macbooks for this, not windows laptops

I'm looking for any advice or tips from anyone who has done in person multi cam setups using Riverside. Can it be done with a windows laptop, what types of cameras did you use and how did you find the experience?

Really appreciate any help with this, we're a small team of volunteers trying to get this off the ground with not much experience 😵

Can anyone help me with these issues?

I've been using Riverside for a year now. I'm not a super expert, but I use it pretty regularly. Riverside won't help me unless I email them directly for support, which is a massive waste of my time. I cannot crowdsource to get help from other users on their Facebook group, so I'm posting here.

  1. I had the experience recently where I hadn't touched the edit for a recording in a couple of weeks and when I went back to continue editing the edit was gone. As in, absolutely nothing under the "Edits" tab. But as I was contacting tech support, within about 10 minutes (without any actual help from tech support, which kept assuming I was looking in the wrong place and sending me the same advice) the edit magically appeared, exactly where it was supposed to be. Does this sound familiar or correct to anyone?

  2. Is there any way email addresses are able to be saved in the scheduler? I often have guests more than once, or we have to do more than one session, and it's a bear to continue to go back to my email program to copy and paste guest email addresses.

  3. My podcast is about one person. That person's name is used constantly, as are the names of other people associated with them. The transcript never gets the spelling right. "Correct all" is only an option some of the time (and in my experience doesn't always work). Might there be plans for a "word bank" for words or names that get used all the time? Or does anyone else have a fix for this I don't know about?

  4. I usually have people click a link to the desktop version of Riverside, but every once in a while we have a glitch that forces us to pivot to a phone or an iPad, in which case they download the app. Some of my guests are told they need to log in in order to do that. Is that true? Can someone tell me what the guest experience is when you access Riverside as a guest through the app? I hate asking people to log in.

Riverside was a means to an end and now it's barely doing that

I've used Riverside for 3.5 years to record guests. I've never used the tools to edit as they were clunky and I am a whiz on other software. So it was an easy place that I can have guests call in, I could hear what the audio was going to sound like, and be a good producer.

There's a break between seasons and I have no idea what they've changed, but it's a lot. I hate the new audio levels. I can't tell if my guests are actually peaking. If I turn off noise suppression since all my guests record in studios... it somehow adds background sound to force me to turn it on. If I have echo cancellation on because a guest doesn't have headphones, I start to hear non stop clicks that do not appear in the recording but are so agressive and distracting.

Before I could take my notes and know what the audio quality was going to be and now, no idea. Haven't a clue.

I asked them and their AI chatbot ultimately suggested me to "just ignore it and trust that the audio will sound good."

Sigh. No. I shouldn't have to. It's literally my job to make sure it sounds good. I shouldn't have to record it and hope for the best.

Riverside - Y'all Trying to Do Too Much

I've been using Riverside for many years with our podcast, and for the longest time it was the easy go-to. You recorded, live-streamed, and then had some ability to repurpose your content for your socials. It wasn't complicated, but it worked.

Now, Riverside seems to want to do everything, and the problem is that they don't really do anything well. The main reason I kept coming back to Riverside was because of the repurposing. The editor wasn't complicated or made for complicated edits, but that's fine when you're just pulling stuff from a podcast.

With the new rollouts, there always seems to be an issue every time we do a show. Live streaming is touch and go, with it falling out several times during the stream. Mic volumes off, camera feed shuts off randomly.

Then when you get to the product afterward, the new editor is so clunky and unresponsive it's insane. Yesterday I had a whole issue with support where the AI option to remove pauses wasn't working. Like I would toggle it on and nothing happened. It wasn't until support said the work around was to select "Apply to screenshare and media." A work around? It used to just work when you clicked on it making it really easy to clean up content.

I'm sure there are other products I can stack to get the results I am looking for, but in reality, Riverside seems to keep trying to add all these new features and none of them work that well. I miss when it was simpler and just worked. Now I don't feel confident any time I hit record or go live that it will work.

Rant over.

Transcription based editing broken?

Is anyone else finding that since Riverside launched a "new and improved" editor, that transcription based editing no longer works well? It is no longer differentiating between a flub and the start of dialogue again.

Really disappointing.

I can't even upload anymore

I'm trying to upload external video, a thing I do every week for my video podcast, and for whatever reason not a single upload will take. I've been trying to upload since Saturday and today is Tuesday. Instead of uploading, I get the normal sequence of prompts and then when it says "uploading" on the modal window, the progress bar stays stuck at 0%. Also, if I click any other location on the screen, the modal upload window closes and the project stays empty.

I have tried to connect my google drive and upload the file that way, but it still errors out every time.

What can I do? Does anyone have a workaround?

It's just so, unbelievably, disastrously AWFUL

So many hours of my life have been lost to this absolute nightmare dumpster fire of a platform. It almost seems like they're maliciously, intentionally making it the worst version of itself that it could possibly be. The fucking AI tools that don't work, the unusable editor, the constant issues with lag and files disappearing and guests struggling to find the room. I just have to rant because it's so bafflingly awful.

getting sick of riverside changing features and charging more.

the customer service is horrible. its always... "we will send you an email later and get back to you" and they never do. at least not in the time frame that I need to get the job done.

today, I wanted to adjust the the colors of the video. something Ive done hundreds of times before. but today... ITS BEHIND A FUCKING PAYWALL !! and I am on a fucking deadline!!

wrote them on the chat support... and got the classic timeless "I understand, I know how important it is to resolve this as soon as possible, so I will share this to the relevant team to work on this issue."

WHAT THE FUCK!!

Update:

After posting here, they did reach out to me through Reddit chat and expedited my support ticket. This morning I heard from them and they fixed the issue which is good, but nevertheless, I did miss a deadline, which is disappointing.
