PLEASE HELP ME, I CAN'T FIND A FIX TO THIS.
Hello, I’m having VERY big troubles with Rocket League, and I don't know how to fix it. I hope someone more advanced on Reddit will help.
(this paragraph can be skipped)
Let me start from the beginning, I have had Rocket League since 2018, ever since the game cost money. I never played ranked back then, and I never knew ranked was a thing. But I only found ranked pretty recently, and I ranked up faster than most people and pretty consistently too, especially because I HAD friends who wanted to rank up with me. That was when I played on playstation and I recently swapped to pc. But ever since I came to pc I felt my steady ranking up had stopped completely, and I may even be ranking down slowly. I love pc and I would never want to go back to PlayStation and I love Rocket League, so I don't feel like quitting the game. I am currently diamond 1; my last rank on PlayStation was diamond 1 about a year ago. Last season, I reached champ one div 3, which was my peak, but in the same season, I was diamond 1 div 1. I also had a couple 3 coaches say I should be at least champ 2, saying I should be at least champ 3. The coaches were a GC 1, GC 3, and one being a ssl peak, and they all think it's my team that's holding me up. But I believe it's something way more complicated, and everything I do can't fix it. It's also something I don't like telling other people because I think they think I'm stupid and don't know what I'm talking about, but since they aren’t experiencing it, it's hard to be truthful. Another reason I don't tell people is that it's very hard to describe. But I believe even with this problem I think I'm gaining skill slowly somehow, but as of now (Aug 2026) I can’t gain higher than champ 1 and I keep fluctuating rank.
To describe it, I play on a PS5 controller mostly. Sometimes I play very well, other times I don't. Sometimes I can air dribble, flip reset, double tap, others I can't do anything. I know the way I play best is when I can do perfect recoveries. Everyone wants to think it's like a Rocket League placebo effect, and I'm sure it's not. That's the simple way of explaining it. It feels somewhat like a dead zone; one example is if you change your dead zone in Steam Input, but it's not that at all. Also, opening the game in different ways applies large changes to it too, along with restarts. Like it feels a different way for each way I open the game, one way is keeping my controller plugged in before opening rocket league feels different from plugging it in after Rocket League is started, and that's only 2. Opening it from epic games compared to shortcut or steam all feel different. The way I test it usually is seeing if I can do a flip reset/air dribble, maybe a double tap to see air control because it's the quickest way to test if it's good. If it's very good, then I can usually do a double reset, and it feels smooth and fast. If it's very good I can do perfect recoveries and maybe a triple flip reset and I win almost every ranked game. Sometimes I can air dribble like a pro and can't get a reset which is bad, and then a game restart would make me get consistent flip resets, but I can't air dribble which is also bad.
A short list of different feelings I noticed depending on how I open Rocket League
1: Feels slow but accurate: plugged in before pc restart and opening Rocket League with it plugged in.
2: Feels slow but somewhat accurate: not plugged in before pc restart, and plugging in before starting Rocket League.
3: Feels fast but inaccurate: plugging in after starting Rocket League (feels like it changes feeling during games).
4: slow but inaccurate: plugged in before starting Rocket League after restarting Rocket League.
5: slightly fast but accurate: plugged in after starting Rocket League, after restarting Rocket League.
And these all feel different from each other.
Before you say something like I haven't even done anything to fix it I will make a list of things I've done.
Asked Google/AI, Swapped to a Xbox controller for 2-3 weeks, I tried everything with open Steam or Steam Input, and Steam closed, I used HIDUsbf, I changed monitor settings, used different and bought new USB-Cords for my controller, unplugged extra USBs, tested different controllers: PlayStation(4) Xbox(2) switch(2-3), installed chipset drivers, tested it on my brothers pc (I think it did the same thing I don't remember) I used Bluetooth for my controller, tried different usb ports, uninstalled the game and changed settings, tested different optimization settings, I tried Ds4, vsync settings, display ports and cords, ext.
My suspects of the problem: my mother board, epic games on pc, and windows.
My hardware:
I have a cheap pc that uses AMD Ryzen 5 5500 (CPU), 32 GB DDR4 (RAM), Radeon RX 580 Series (GPU), and MSI A320M PRO-VHL (motherboard). (windows 11)
Optimizations: AMD Adrenalin Software, Chris Titus Bloat, Omen game booster, MSI Performance profile (MSI center).
Please don't clown me for this because I know I'm not tripping. Please help me and get everyone you know who can help me.
