Moving to Suffern with toddlers

Not having luck with real feedback (factual, not rumors) about moving to suffern and wondering if there is anyone who can share recent notes? Or even a realtor who knows the area would be appreciated. Again, people who know or live there..not rumormill info.

Context: we have 3 toddlers under 4 and are house hunting in suffern. Hear the school are good but dont know if we're being sold by our current realtor. For color, we're not Jewish and are concerned about hasidic rumors/stories nearby, so would love anything anyone can share.

We like the downtown walkability for the family and cute old neighborhoods around the downtown area.

Thanks in advance for any and all info!

Bear Mountain State Park closed indefinitely due to water main break after the storm last night

Sounds like the storm last night hit the park pretty hard.

Thanks for the great show, Nyack!

First time at the Nyack fireworks and it was so beautiful and delightful. It really cheered up what is a macabre year in which to celebrate what the nation could be. Thank you, Nyack.

Selling/Buying House Timeline

We're looking to put our house on the market in the next week. Our real estate agent seems to think it will sell quickly (within a couple of weeks) but I haven't seen that happen in my neighborhood. I'm in Haverstraw. Was curious what the experience was like for those who have bought or sold their house in the area over the last few months?

Anyone want to check out the drone show together?

37M here. Anyone interested in checking out the west Nyack drone show next Thursday evening? I recently moved to Nyack and I’m looking to meet more people in the area.

I thought it could be fun to get a small group together, grab a spot beforehand, and hang out while we wait for the show. If you’re interested, leave a comment or send me a DM, and if we get a few people together I’ll put something together.

Are convenience stores required to post prices of items?

Just stopped at a convenience store in West Nyack, and there were no prices posted on anything—snacks, coffee, sundries. No stickers, no shelf tags. I asked the clerk, and he said I'd have to take items I wanted up to the counter for a price check. Big nope, so I left. In NYC, it's against the law not to post prices in some form, but I'm not clear if there's Rockland or State regulations on this.

Rock climbing at Gravity Vault on July 17?

Anyone interested in going rock climbing at Gravity Vault in Upper Saddle River on Friday, July 17?

They have a Friday happy hour where day passes are $14 after 5 PM.

I'm 37M and live in Nyack. I used to climb fairly regularly (around V3/V4 bouldering and 5.10–5.11 top rope), but it's been a while, so I'll probably be easing back in around V2 and 5.9.

I'm mostly looking to meet a few local people to climb with from time to time, so all experience levels are welcome.

If you're interested, leave a comment or send me a DM!

Housing options

Hello, I recently got a job near Montvale, NJ and I've found that rents in that area are pretty expensive. I'm looking for a shared or private room with access to a kitchen for like may be around $1,200/month. I am looking around Spring valley or I'm also open to nearby areas like Nanuet, Airmont etc.

It would be a huge plus if the place is close to public transportation, since I'll be commuting to the Montvale Park & Ride for work until I can buy a car.

I've been checking FB Marketplace and a few other websites but I haven't had much luck so far. I'd really appreciate any leads or suggestions.

thanks

Mike Lawler Brands Democratic Lawmakers "F*cking A**holes" After Explosive Hearing Fight

Boy he was shaking with anger! Does he really care about Laken Riley? I'm not convinced. He used a murdered young woman’s name to launder a much broader immigration crackdown through public grief. Even Riley's father was offended that her name was being used for politics.

Hudson Link Yesterday Was a TOTAL S**t Show

I came back from the city yesterday during rush hour and the scene at Tarrytown waiting for the Hudson Link was NUTS. I took the train that arrived in Tarrytown at 5:55, and then an H07 (local) and an H07X (express) were supposed to leave at 6:00. When I got there I saw the biggest crowd I've ever seen at the bus stop (let me know if anyone knows if there was a ghost bus before this to explain the crowds). The countdown clock was turned off, and people were mad about it. We went on the app and it had status for some other buses but nothing for the two 6:00 buses.

An H07 pulled up a few minutes late, and most of the crowd rushed it. But the few of us like myself that wanted the H07X went up to the dispatcher (who spent most of the time in his car) and asked if the H07X is coming. He radios over and says that it's "on the bridge" and it's "running late" so we "may want to take the local". I decided to wait it out.

A couple minutes after the H07 leaves, two buses that say H07 Eastbound to Tarrytown arrive at the station. Both drivers get out of their buses and say to the dispatcher "What do I do now?" The dispatcher tells the first H07 bus to leave and tells the second one "You're the express bus now". Are they just making stuff up?

We get on the bus, and the driver says "We're not leaving for 10 minutes!" It turns out they combined this H07X and the following one. People getting off the next train see the express train there but then are told the next local is late. People are yelling at the dispatcher both on and off the bus complaining about the poor service and no countdown clocks. All of the screens on board the bus are off.

This is bad. This was supposed to be a train, then bus rapid transit, then an "enhanced" bus service. Transdev had a LOT of flaws but at least they had bus trackers so you could know in most cases where the bus is. I'm very concerned this is going to lead to the degrading or downright canceling of this service. When people stop riding because the service is crap, they'll say "Well I guess the demand isn't there." So so so mad and working on it 😡.

East Spring Valley Fire District firehouse empty

Why is the East Spring Valley fire house always empty of fire trucks? The one by Costco. I think yesterday there was an ambulance parked inside, sometimes also a Clarkstown police truck, but not fire trucks.

I think I remember there being actual fire trucks there some years back after it was built.

Recommendations for lighting fixture stores beyond Lowes and HD?

Looking to replace the light fixture in our foyer and we’d prefer to pick one out in person. Now that Lites Plus on 59 is closed, where are people getting their light fixtures from beyond Lowes and HD?
