HDCP Blocking everything

My partner bought us a Roku that we've been using and it was comvenient for a while but it updated this morning and now we can't even watch youtube without this DRM nonsense popping up. So, what? I'm just not allowed to use the product we paid for because our tv is too old?

Traveling with remote

I'm looking for a way to travel with my Roku remote so that the buttons are not pressed when it is packed. Space is at a premium, so I would like the slimmest way possible to keep the buttons covered. Currently, I take the batteries out, but it just adds extra complication. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Anyone else think the 2nd Gen Roku Ultra remote is a downgrade?

I have both 2020 and 2024 models. I think they messed up with the remote, though. The first one seems more responsive and the buttons feel better. Like they are more “clicky.” I also prefer the 1 and 2 buttons for designated apps over the little launcher one on the new one. I’m gonna just keep buying the old one on ebay until they are gone.

Control multiple IR devices

Is a Roku Ultra able to control a TV and a soundbar, both by IR? I’m only able to set up one external IR control that I can tell, but my soundbar doesn’t have CEC so I need to control both with IR.

Disney+ Issue On Roku

When I’m watching something on Disney+ via Roku, if I press pause, the bottom doesn’t show how many minutes I’ve watched so far, and how many minutes are remaining to watch. That’s important to me, I want to be able to see those values sometimes.

The Hulu app doesn’t have this problem, so I watch Hulu shows on the Hulu app for now.

Is there an easy way to fix this?

TCL TV: Voice remotes and wifi not working since 15.3 update

Ever since the software update around Aug 4 or 6, my (older) voice remote wouldn't stay paired to my 55S435 and basically only worked as an IR remote (had to point it directly at the sensor and sometimes press buttons multiple times). Sometimes, the TV would say that the remote was no longer paired and prompt me to pair it. Attempting to re-pair it never progressed pass the "hold down the pairing button for 5 seconds" screen, no matter now close I put the remote to the TV. The remote was fully charged and the pairing light was blinking.

Unplugging the TV for 10 seconds, 30 seconds, or 1 hour made no difference.

I figured that remote was dying, so I ordered a newer voice remote, and it would not pair or control the TV at all. It would similarly sit on the "hold left + home for 5 seconds" screen while the remote blinked.

I factory reset the TV tonight, and now all I can use is the IR remote and the phone app, as neither remote would pair.

The TV network connection is wired and fully functional, but I figured I'd try switching to wifi to see if there were additional connectivity issues going on. Scanning for wifi networks revealed no networks at all. I live in a multifamily building and I myself have 3 wifi SSIDs running that are compatible with a wide range of devices--it makes no sense that the TV sees no wifi networks. So yes, there's a broader connectivity issue.

Is there anything potentially useful that I haven't tried yet to fix this?

I see other posts here about recent remote issues, recent network connectivity issues, etc. Assuming that my hardware has not failed with extremely suspicious timing, are we all in a holding pattern until Roku releases another update?

Roku Express keeps giving me Error code 014.0 when I try and connect it to my Wi-Fi network.

I am VERY CLOSE to switch to Google TV or another platform LIKE ROKU. I can't do a wired connection on this $30 item. I might just go out and buy another Streaming box.

Apps keep disappearing, YouTubeTV keeps automatically adding

Starting about a week ago, our Rokus moved to the new Quick start look (which is awful). But worse than the new look of the UI, we’ve found the many (not all) of our apps keeping getting removed every 1-2 days. Not just getting removed from the Quick Start, but from the list of apps available on the Home Screen.

Worse yet, the YouTubeTV app (which we don’t have a subscription for or use), keeps getting added.

This isn’t a matter of not using certain apps, we use Disney+ every day but it keeps disappearing (along with 4 other apps).

I can’t find a way to address this in the system settings. Chatting with the Roku support bot was no help. Has anyone else encountered this and fixed it? Or is this just a byproduct of the recent software update in August 2026?

Is it worth it to get an ultra?

I currently have a Roku Express 4K+ hooked up to a LG C6 OLED. As far as I can see, the main benefit of the ultra would be Dolby Vision support. However, with slit streaming, I question the ability for it to be properly utilized since it's going to have a bandwidth limitation compared to Ultra Blu-Ray's.

Is there a real difference streaking Dolby Vision content on a Roku Ultra, or should I just stick with the 4K +?

TV won't play sound and plays in fast forward speed

I was trying to watch a show on my roku and for some reason it just muted and is playing in the fast forward (2X) speed. I've tried unmuting, turning it off, unplugging it and I checked for a system update and nothing is fixing it. Has anyone else had an issue like this before?

4850X Ultra - Super Laggy Remote

Started this thread to see how many others are having extreme lag issues with what used to be one of the snappiest remotes I own (as far as responsiveness). Ever since the mid-April update of the Roku Ultra 4850 I own, this thing has been an absolute turd to operate in every way. Most noticeably the remote. It's almost as if it "sleeps" after 30 seconds of inactivity or something and takes a good 5+ seconds to wake up and respond to any single button press. Even then, it seems to "miss" button presses every once in a while. Anyone else also having this issue?

I have another thread going about this same update update that completely destroyed CEC and there are lots of other commenters in that thread that also complain about the same and other issues.

What a mess Roku has made of their flagship model, and the other 3 units of varying models I own.

u/Roku_CustomerSupport are you going to ever comment and/or address any of these concerns/issues your customers are experiencing? I've put in multiple tickets, spent many hours troubleshooting and resetting and whatever else the support has had me perform and it's the same thing... crappy buggy software that broke all our units 4 months ago.

whats the point of a commercial break if it just says commercial break for 2 minutes?

so im watching a show on the roku channel and every 5 minutes or so there is a "commercial break" but instead of showing advertisements, just literally just says commercial break and plays music for 2 minutes.

it happens so often its getting annoying.

How can I completely remove the tag on the new, rechargeable, remote?

Yes, I know it is petty and stupid, but these tags just bother me. On all of my previous remotes they were a breeze to remove. However, the remote on my new Ultra rechargeable remote does not have a battery door, so it isnt as easy. Has anyone successfully removed it completely without just cutting it flush at the edge? Can the case be gently opened? Thanks.

Music on channels

Why do channels have to have hold music during commercial breaks. The consistant we will be right back the then terrible hold music. Please give us the option to remove the music.

Sports channels have crowd noise that never matches the sport you watch. Court tv sounds like Minecraft music. They all are terrible.

My TCL Roku TV looses Wi-Fi ofton.

The problem happens anywhere from about an hour to several hours of watching TV.

Is the Wi-Fi function part of the built Roku device. If so, can a Roku stick be used as a test and workaround?

We’ve tried several of the workarounds we’ve found here.
