Need help picking a cover

Edit: if you want to know the artists that create these amazing covers, they are tagged on my Instagram @poppyharrows (except 2 people who did not give me socials)

I decided to run a (paid) competition for the cover of my upcoming debut Dark Romantasy book - I aimed it at students or people who are just hiding in the background, sitting on some serious talent and the submissions I got were AMAZING.

But now I need to pick one.😩

I will admit, going into this, I had no idea what makes a good cover, and I was only really fascinated by the art.

Since then, I have read a lot about how the cover needs to signal the genre, the vibe, etc. But I was hoping there were some published authors floating about who would lend their eyes to these 16 covers and tell me what you think would be a good fit, but also what would be a good style/subject matter for the next 5 books to come 😬

(I have not tagged the artist in the post because I only have their Instagram handles and do not have permission to share first names, but if you like a style/design and are also looking for art, comment the number of the post (in red), and I will send you to their Instagram - these people need support!)

No AI Rule Reminder

Hi Everyone,

Over the past few days, there’s been an increase in AI posts. So I’m just here with a reminder that r/Romantasy has zero tolerance for AI generated content. It doesn’t matter if it’s a cover, a meme, written or whatever else the slop can do. No AI allowed, ever, end of story.

We try and keep it easy going here but this is a firm and nonnegotiable rule. AI generated content does *not* belong in creative spaces so let’s keep it that way here.

Please reach out if you have any questions,
Lyss_

Looking for a Writing Buddy

Hi I'm Allie, I've been struggling with motivation and inspiration to write. I'd love a writing buddy to get my creative juices flowing again as I start a new romantasy project. Someone to talk writing with, bounce ideas off of, be involved in each others protects, perhaps start projects together. I'm very open.

  • Genre/s: fantasy/romance/romantasy
  • Goals/expectations/commitment: Looking for something longer term, where a friendship forms and we can support each other throughout
  • Writing/experience level: No experience level needed, I've been writing for a long time and now working toward publishing eventually.
  • Meeting place: Discord

Comment below or DM me if you're interested!

Struggling with neurotypical dialogue.

Hello, I am an autistic woman who is struggling a bit with writing neurotypical dialogue. The rest all seems to work well, and to test it Ive run examples through Ai detectors and everything but dialogue comes back human. Unfortunately im not sure I know how to write dialogue between neurotypical people without it coming accross as very ai.

Im not actually sure how to fix this issue. I feel like my story is strong, my magical system is interesting and I even wrote an autistic fmc because write what you know? The autism even factors into the storyline in what I feel is also a unique way. But when I need to write dialogue between the non autistic folk, I am struggling and im just really not sure how to get around this.

Suggestions?

Looking for Beta Readers for my new book

Hi all,

I recently finished editing my first Romantasy book and am looking for someone who would be interested in being a Beta reader. The book is called The Love Migration Game, and in a nutshell, it’s about a woman who secretly writes her tyrannical boss as the villain of her hit dark romance series — then gets sucked into the fantasy world she invented and forced to survive a death tournament hosted by him.

If that sounds like something you’d enjoy reading, please give me DM.

The novel is a standalone at 81k words and is intended for mature audiences (18+) only.

Thank you!

Tempest of Stars; [Romantasy, 3, 312 words]

hi!
I have finished a draft of my novel and have done a round of self editing. I definitely have more editing to do however I want to step away from it for a bit before going back so I have a fresh perspective. During this time I’d love to get some initial feedback on how it reads, if it captures attention, any concerns with writing style, etc.

I plan on looking for beta readers to read it all for feedback on plot holes, character development, where the story may fall flat and the like.

For context: this is a Romantasy that follows a group on a quest for a magical object, however they are all on the journey for different, conflicting reasons. They don’t know this and it inevitably leads to betrayals you didn’t see coming.

Anything helps :)

Writing buddies?

I've posted this in a couple of Reddit groups, and someone pointed me to this one.

I currently have three manuscripts on the go, all at different stages: one is with a developmental editor, one is just over halfway drafted, and the third is still in the early planning/writing phase.

I don't have any friends who write, and it's starting to feel a little isolating. I'd love to find a small group of like-minded people to talk about writing with, brainstorm ideas, work through plot holes, and give honest, constructive feedback.

I've been writing on and off for most of my life because I simply love telling stories. Over the past few years, I've started treating it as a much more serious hobby and have been focusing on improving my craft.

I'm hoping to find a small group (2–4 people) that's flexible. Life gets busy, so I'm not looking for rigid schedules, just people who enjoy chatting throughout the week and maybe planning the occasional Discord call for bigger discussions.

Published or unpublished, beginner or experienced, I don't mind. I'm just looking for a supportive little community where we can help each other grow.

If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, send me a DM!
